@Power 2 Weight it is unnecessary and not great for the drivetrain. Being comfortable enought with a manual isnt really that great of a compliment, if you done it for a long time its muscle memory. That final gearshit for another 1 sec of acceleration gives you nothing.

when most people get understeer, they panic and slam on the brakes, usually crashing. when Tsuchiya gets understeer, he dabs the brake for a split second, shifting weight to the front wheels, and then sharply throttles on, pushing the back end forward, and forcing the front wheels to grip, and then initiating a dance between both ends of the car as they fight each other to get through the corner first. amazing.

Looking at the wheel it’s pretty obvious when the car is sliding. The reason you didn’t notice is because he is essentially power sliding or on power oversteer (what ever you want you call it) which doesn’t cause a sudden unbalance of the car like handbrake or clutch kick entries, it’s a gradual loss of grip.

Yep, slip angle, get that nose pointed at apex as soon as possible, you get it by braking late, and over-all increases amount of time spent accelerating. It's why his current AE86, set up for more grip, and having more power, is 5 seconds slower on the SAME course.

*For the ones wondering if he invented Drift:* "By driving hard on all types of surfaces and conditions he learned car control at the limits. In 1977 he debuted in the Fuji Freshman series, this was followed by several amateur racing events. 1984 saw him getting a drive with the Advan AE86/1984 Corolla GT-S. The Drift King was born. In this series his technique of using drift (sliding the rear of the car out) in a downhill corner yielded a better corner speed and improved lap times. This technique is what made him the Drift King not as most believe that he was first in the drift scene."

1:32 seems a very dangerous section, especially for those a bit more inexperienced with RWD, but Tsuchiya-san has been doing this since 1977 (when his _professional_ career started. He got his experience street racing and doing this for real). At 1:35 you see him cut the steering wheel to the left suddenly - this is because he was going over bumps, and he felt the rear get lighter and start to shift to the left which is the first tell-tale sign of snap oversteer. Tsuchiya-san corrected for this in a split second and actually used the weight transfer to prepare for the next corner. Absolute legend of a driver.

outofspace2014 that's funny, not really...mustangs are awesome cars, just takes skill to drive one, most mustang owners are kids who think they're cool and don't have experience or skill and try to drift out of a car meet and end up crashing, my guess is that mustangs over powered for their price

It looked like at the start with cold tires he was just flicking to initiate the rotation, but as the tires warmed up he was able to push harder and the car was more stable with a little understeer. So much to learn from in just this clip.

@nickhighland799
@nickhighland799 7 лет назад
Kasi Elango seriously! like im an American and i think this. why the fuck would you have a nascar driver drive a real track?? every time i see him drive its just cringe, he has to slow way down for every corner because he doesn't know how to attack it. it seems like a rally or formula one driver or drifter would have been much more well suited. I dont wanna talk to much shit, cause he's probably still a better driver that me, but its kinda boring to watch someone just slow way the fuck down in corners and gun it in the straightaways. Tsuchiya in that show would have been pure car guy porn.

the real does not wear a helmet but wears sunglasses Dk does not need 1000hp and awd Better than ken block
@donblub
@donblub 4 года назад
@@arinb.756 i drifted both, awd is harder to get in to a drift, but very easy to hold, rwd is easy to get in to a drift, but hard to hold. block isn't a good racing driver, and not a good drifter. yes, he is faster then 99% of people, but keitchi is faster then 99,999% of people, DK is an alien, the rest of the racing drivers are just trying to be him.

Arin B. But they don’t drift because they’re assigned on how they’re supposed to drive I’m not saying they can’t drift you brought up a new different topic I’m only talking about ken block and not to put racers who drive on tracks that don’t drift because that’s not what they do

Beautiful video! A half normal car, a normal road (my god, a driver without helmet!), pretty different thing to an ultra smooth track, memorized and trained in hundreds of laps in a racing car extremely well setup for the track. It is the difference between track racing and rallying or climbing. In old times track racing was also relatively similar to this, and I love that concept.
