Here's what nobody's talking about with Zach Wilson. Quarterbacks who were high picks used to be given two or three (usually three) years to develop. Teams today, prompted by this instant gratification sports media and fan culture we have now, dump a QB if he stinks in year one. This guy has shown the ability to play. He just needs time to get more consistent with it and for that it takes time. Some guys are great immediately. Some guys are great after two or three years. And some guys never figure it out. But they need time to show what they can and can't do.
FACTSSSS!!! I think Wilson was overrated coming out as a 2nd Pick from BYU. I still agree with your statement. Teams are ready to throw away players too quickly these days. The Jets are young enough to develop him they are just too impatient
He is in this third year right now. Peyton Manning swung the other way after a disastrous rookie year, most of the franchise QBs we think of (and in the previous era there were several - Rivers, Roethlisberger, Brees, Flacco, Cousins, Russell Wilson, Rodgers, Brady, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Newton, etc - proved themselves by their second years, if not third. If Wilson doesn't end up turning all the way around by the end of this year, it's tough to continue to hold out for him. And nowadays we expect better because the game has changed, rules vastly favor offenses and especially passing offenses even more than they used to, and the age of social media has made learning the game way easier than before. Even kids are learning the Xs and Os way younger now. So when a second or third year QB can't read defenses, it doesn't work as well. Favre not knowing what a nickel was wouldn't work nowadays
One thing many people don't mention is Zach Wilson was on a downward spiral. Every single person told him to quit. All of you announcers, Joe Namath, all of you. He went from that to having one of the best games he's ever had. Think about what it takes to come over a slump when you're down on yourself, then pile every single other person with that same mentality. Who knows what the future holds for him but I find that story of coming back from almost every single announcer dogging him much more compelling.
I've watched every Wilson game. This isn't just "one of" his best games, that game was the best hes looked and its not remotely close. Its still only 250 yards and 18 points but he strung together multiple drives in a row where he looked legitimately great and hit passes that I didn't know could be hit. He needs a lot more than a handful of great drives in one game to really flip the narrative but it was a great first step. Denver's defense is REAL bad. Time to see what Zach Wilson does against them.
Not only that, but he has Rodgers maybe in his ear as well. And for once this season, they didn’t go, “run, run, pass, punt. Run, run, pass, punt.” Putting the kid in 3rd and long every play, Tony Romo was screaming about it all game against the Cowboys to throw on first, it’s the easiest down to throw on, especially for run first teams because the defense is expecting run.
Was at a bar, never saw Zach Wilson play. First few plays I thought this game was going to be a blow out, the chief looked too good defensively and Mahomes is Mahomes but Zach started gaining confidence, trusting his players and his own ability, and he made plays. Yes it's one game but the confidence of outplaying Mahomes is going to be huge!
Zach Wilson coming out of BYU was an immense arm talent but a project. He didn't really face elite teams in college on a consistent basis. He didn't look ready to be a starting NFL QB his first and second year and he's probably not completely ready this year. But, he HAS shown improvement. Yeah it's one game, but it was by far his best pro game since he came into the NFL. Good for him and wish him the best, it shows he's been working hard to get better, and I'm sure he'll give credit due to his teammates and coaching staff and the organization that brought in the players and coaches. I trust Joe Douglas and Robert Salah, they're doing a terrific job. Let's Go Jets!
He was a project coming out of BYU with subpar competition; this is why I blame Douglas for choosing rookie coaches who didn’t know how to develop him to groom him; that proved to be a bad plan; and as raw ZW’s been, that’s a main reason why he’s struggled to find his way with the Jets; to add, Jets fans are horrible when it comes to patience towards grooming a young project like Zach.
It might be one game, but a lot of positives can be taken from Wilson’s performance yesterday. It was arguably one of the best games of his career and shows there is SOME potential there. We might meme the kid, but I don’t want to him fail. It’s a little embarrassing seeing 50+ year old men get so emotional and continue to rag on him with so much passion.
There’s ALWAYS been potential. Last night is the first time I saw them call a game to his strengths. And to their obvious weaknesses on the offensive line. People are so quick to write someone off without taking into consideration all the things contributing to his success and his failures. You don’t get drafted #2 overall and not have talent. But yes. There are tons of reasons to be positive about him.
@@ttravis10welcome to the real world sports are the only place where you can be mediocre or 🗑️ and get paid and it’s not just the fans the team the DEFENSE are set to win now why should they continue to wait and waste that defense for a qb to get together f that
It’s like Stephen A was talking to me. I was about to turn the video because I didn’t see Shannon Sharpe then he said “Shannon Sharpe will be here any minute.”
@MARKOPOLO876or because Justin has had much better flashes of potential😅. Zac hasnt had games that made you want to stick with him to maximize his "potential"
Zack Wilson played very well. Arguably outplayed Patrick Mahomes. The dropped TD pass from Tyler Conklin, the dropped INT from Mosley, the costly penalty from Sauce cost the Jets the game last night.
@@davyjoneslocker4859 Um ... yeah it was. I'll give you that the snap was slightly low. But he had in his hands and then dropped it. If that would have been a pass and the receiver dropped it the exact same way, we would have been all over the receiver. That being said, I can't give Zack a pass on that one.
If you look back at his first season, the problem he was having with the offense was he would constantly go rogue. Guys would be wide open in front of him, and he would just go deep. In the second season he was playing not to throw interceptions. Also the OC gave up on him. This year, they babied him until yesterday.. And that's what they mean by saying, his frame of mind is different. He's grown up a little bit. Plus Hackett is and easy coach to be around Leflure wasn't. Having all these rookie coaches trying to coach super talented. but unprepared quarterback was a huge mistake on the GM's end.
Nobody is saying ots his consistency because he WAS consistent...consistently bad! This is one of his best games and he needs this to be his game consistently with better games as his best game.
What Dan actually means about all NFL QBs are accurate is that all NFL QB can hit a target given no other factors. That's the minimum requirement to be a QB. The issue is that once you add defenders, coverages, and physiological/psychological factors, not all QBs can handle it. These separate great, good, and bad QBs.
@@northside4767the elephant in the room’s that DO wasn’t a great NFL quarterback, so they don’t talk to him like they would if he were a legend. He’s not even half a Tony Romo. He wasn’t accurate anywhere he played over a decade.
I think this really showed us what Zach Wilson is capable of. I’m proud of the kid and I hope he can keep it up. In the grand scheme of things, they only lost 2 games and were totally screwed over by the refs against the chiefs.
Same refs gave them a safety for a face mask that didn’t happen. Same refs overturned two third downs on the final drive with penalties on KC. The play that everybody’s so mad about doesn’t even happen if the chiefs aren’t flagged the play prior which overturned the 3rd down being converted. But yes it was all the refs calling everything in the chiefs favor and screwing the Jets. Don’t let what actually happened interfere with your salt though
Stephen A just constantly criticizes everyone like he is the standard for excellence. Give Zach Wilson a little credit just always beating up on players
@@BourneKnight no I can get enough of it lol I’m here for DO and Shannon. I’d rather just DO and Shannon. Every time I hear a monologue from Stephan a… I lose brain cells
He just argues now about everything and anything. He can say the same exact thing as someone else but will argue with them. You just said the same thing ! Grrr... I like Stephen A but he just needs to listen more and not chime in all the time. Theres too many times he just gets on someone without letting them finish.
This. As bad as wilson can be - the defense doesn't have to go out there and get down 17-0 instantly. Its not like Wilson threw 3 ints at the 10 yard line to get down 17-0.
Totally get it. At this point I understand that Wilson has brought a lot of heat in himself with his play….but idk when I think of Super Bowl defenses I automatically think the cowboys. Jets have been looking like an average defense lately.
TBH they are actually one of the bests in the league. The reason why is because their offense was gettin 3 and outs consistently so they were playing a lot compared to the Cowboys and other top defenses
Dan is also a below average BUT former NFL QB. I believe that statement alone is true. HOWEVER, not all QB’s can throw with defenders. Combine proves that any QB can throw, but eye test proves that not all guys with arms can quarterback.
Wilson has the talent to put the ball EXACTLY where he wants His problem is he cannot read NFL defenses yet, so he doesn't know what he wants to do out there. He's overthinking every decision. That's why he fumbled. He was caught up in "Should I audible? Is this guy blitzing?" Mentally, the game hasn't slowed down for him yet. He's playing in a hurricane
It doesn't help when your players, head coach, and fans have all given up on you.. the guy is only 23 years old and we expect him to take all this heat like a ten year vet.
I know its only one game. But he played like something changed for him yesterday. Like something clicked. Hope he can keep it up for the Jets. The kid can sling that ball for sure.
Man Stephan a is tough to listen to , all Dan was saying was we know Zach Wilson can hit the open throws which is why everyone fell in love with Zach at his pro day , the problem Zach Wilson is having is specific ball placement that only a few elite qbs in the nfl has and because he’s struggling with that it’s taking away his confidence to just go out and make the simple throws
that wasn't his argument. dan's argument was "everyone in the nfl is accurate" which is just stupid. and then he tried to make his own criteria that was solely made to support his statement. nice try
If anybody watched the game closely you would notice that Zach Wilson's drives that he scored on. I believe we're always when they were doing a series with Chris Jones out
SAS should be drug tested, not Orlovsky. When Wilson doesn't play scared he's been fine. Yesterday was an example how Wilson should be used. He made GREAT THROWS! I agree with Orlovsky,
I hope they talk about rodney harrison being an absolute scumbag Tried to bait Chris "pure class" Jones into shitting on zach Wilson. Chris is a pro and didnt take the bait but man that felt personal by harrison
I've been a Patriot fan for over 40 years. Organically I hate the Jets. But mannn did those officials give that game to KC. I was sick to my stomach with that penalty 🤮
Only reasons I’m not concerned bout the Chiefs: they’re 3-1 and Patrick Mahomes still the QB. Defensively they been surprisingly good the first month. Didn’t expect that seeing as how they’re younger although they’re more dynamic and athletic on that side of the ball. But at some point the WRs gotta step it up. Especially in a tough AFC this time around
I looked at that time and didn’t see anything. I did watch the game last night. Saw him get hit and start falling and threw the ball but it wasn’t even close to being catchable. Also saw him throw a few interceptions. But even at mahomes worst day, still beat Zach at his best day
@@lonnieknight9187 he doesnt know more than i do. His comments say that. Juat because he has an opportunity that i decided not to pursue, doesnt mean he knows more.
@@mike-vc1qm clearly you don’t get it. The no call and the phantom call took away 2 punts, the last run by mahomes would never have happened had the refs made the correct calls. Thanks.
Stephen A.'s comment in regard to QB's accuracy is categorically ignorant. ALL QB's in the NFL are accurate and can throw the football. They wouldn't be on the roster if they couldn't. All NFL players were all-world at some point in their respective careers. As a former collegiate athlete himself, I would expect him to understand what Dan was intimating.
As a Kansas City Chiefs said we cannot only blame the receivers. Patrick’s rushing even when he has a clean pocket it doesn’t seem like he trust the O-line right now.
Then you're blind. If it's not wrs, then it's Nagy/Reid. These wrs ain't it. Also, I've listened to fans last 5 years dismiss Bieniemy when things are good and blame him when things weren't. I'm not seeing that same energy for the supposedly "head coach in waiting".
@@jamesbb4 bro clearly you can’t read I didn’t say you can’t blame them. I said you can only blame them.🤡💯again if you’re rushing outside the pocket for no reason that’s helping.. now they have to readjust mid route. And if you were paying attention, even when he threw the 1st he knew he fucked up. That’s why he put his hand up. He knew he rushed the play Travis got messed up because of that. you casuals need to learn how to read need to learn how to read the field. I never once said that the wide receivers can’t be blamed but you can’t blame it all on them. That is very clear.
Shout out to Rex Ryan. He kept telling them Zach Wilson had the physical attributes to be a starting QB in the NFL. He told us he would minimize the Playbook and concentrate on what he does well....
BIENIEMY is no longer the OC of KANSAS CITY CHIEFS, ANDY REED the so-called GENIUS is overrated and exposed, now we all know E.B was the one really calling the plays and not ANDY REED
Let me see Dropped TD by Conklin Safety on a facemask BS horse collar call Missed FG Mahomes GIFTED the jets 2 int Fumble by Zach Wilson But it's all the refs fault the jets lost. Okay 🤔
As a Washington Commanders fan, I know what it's like to have a constant QB circus. I think with a new OC, no Snyder and a lot of changes, our QB Sam Howell, basically a rookie, kind of has a few passes. I saw Zach Wilson drop some absolute gem of passes in the game yesterday, showing poise as he'd deliver the ball exactly where it needed to go. Sure, there was that fumble, but I hope he progresses. I also look forward to Zach Wilson beating Danny Dimes 😅
As a Chiefs fan Stephen A looking at this from a casual perspective lol. Our RT is bad and we played one of the best defenses in football. We literally won a bowl with a sub par WR Corp so I'm not worried about that. Mahomes spreads the ball so well. And I promise you Andy did not go deep into playbook agaisnt the Jets. He does this all the time agaisnt sub par teams. He saves the special stuff. Mahomes just used his legs to win the game since our line was struggling a little
10:00 mark, Shannon basically repeated Dan Orlovsky’s difference between accuracy and ball placement, but he *LITERALLY SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT DAK FOR YEARS.* Skip would say Dak was accurate, look at his completion percentage, and while Shannon never used two different verbiages, he did say there was a difference between getting the ball to your receiver, and getting the ball to your receiver in a perfect position, and that accuracy percentage didn’t tell the full story.
Shannon coming with fire. We’ve had 2.5 years of Wilson. We know what he is and what he ain’t. Can you win games with him… sure. Can he take you anywhere.. no.
@@joonpak to be fair with fields, he has absolutely nothing in Chicago. He hasn’t had a fair shake. Not say he’s an elite QB but we just haven’t seen him with the proper players around him. The jets moved heaven and earth to put good pieces around Wilson since he was a rookie.
@@soda8736 because Wilson’s team is stacked. Top 5 defense, top 5 wr talent in Wilson, great run game with hall and cook. Experts were picking this team to go deep in the playoffs. It’s apples to oranges.
Dan is right. They are all accurate. It’s pressure and being able to do it when it matters is what makes a starter different from a back up. It’s the same argument for basketball players.
“I got the same one” lmao that’s Dan way of saying “Molly I’ve worn that necklace numerous of times on this show and you’ve never said anything to me u groupie!” 😂
No he didn’t. From last year all they are missing is JuJu. And JuJu didn’t even break 1000 thousand yards. Also Washington without the best TE and QB has improved greatly with EB…
The Pat McAfee show , is the best show that came along in over 20 years.... it's exciting brilliant talent and fun to watch.., It about time to do sports shows without wear a suit...My whole family is watching the sport show..
Thats the difference between an Established QB and an unestablished QB. Unestablished QB has a bad Oline, no wideouts he is a bad QB. Mahomes has Kelce and mid wide receivers and its everyone elses fault.
I’ve watched clips from every sports show this morning & it’s like the guys in the media are disappointed they can’t criticize Zach Wilson more, if he had played the exact way Mahomes played these three guys would be CRUCIFYING Zach, making all kinds of jokes etc but he played well so they just barely mention it? Sports media is such a joke nowadays smh
no reason to be concerned with the chiefs dan was the only one who spoke sense in this the recievers are continuing to get better the season hasnt even started it doesnt really start until they play miami in germany next month
Much of football, as I remembered playing it, has a-lot to do with team confidence and maximizing your strengths. The problem is the jets are running out of patience. The talent on their defense is currently being maximized. So they don’t have the luxury of winning later. They’re asking Zach Wilson to just go and do his job. Don’t do anything special.. don’t play hero ball. Just be an efficient game manager. That’s where the confidence comes into play. And a lot of that was regained on Sunday night even with the loss. Zach Wilson can develop into a solid QB. He just has to keep the momentum going as a solid game manager and move forward.
I’m not a jet fan but the media DOGPILED on him destroying this kid and his confidence. He is 23 years old and he still needs to be developed but he has shown there is potential in him! Like literally! Though he’s not going to develop great behind a terrible oline. Teams these days if you can’t be patient and develop a quarterback at a key position then you wonder why they will NEVER sniff a ring
Whatever anyone wants to say about Wilson, that was *HANDS DOWN, FAR AND AWAY HIS BEST GAME,* it was the small things, it was the confidence, it was the ball placement, trusting his receivers, staring down the barrel, decisive, it was really great to see the team look to build his confidence, not to just play like they didn’t trust him.
I’ll give Dan one thing, he wasn’t out on Zach last week after the New England game. He understands at the very least the mountain that there is to climb when becoming an NFL QB. That’s something that neither SAS or Shannon can attest to. I think ZW survived another week to keep his starting job but definitely need to learn from his mistakes each week.
