I actually agree with Shannon. I wouldn’t say right now Purdy is Elite, he’s having an elite season and should be rewarded but I think he needs to replicate it again to consider him an elite QB.

Shannons take here just goes to show how objective and straight forward he is in his analysis. He can still give Purdy his props and say he is his mvp so far when weeks ago he was saying Purdy was not an elite QB. because both things can be true. Purdy is very good but elite is reserved for a select few players. You can not be elite, but very good, and have a MVP season just like Shannon just explained. The way Dan looks at it is flawed. I dont consider Matt Ryan Elite but he had the perfect pieces around him to compliment his strengths in 2016 and had one of the best years of the decade. that year is a complete standout from any other year in his career.

People want to say Brock Purdy looked average in October without Trent Williams and Deebo. BUT CMC was also affected by not having Trent Williams opening up lanes for him. His yards during those games, 43, 45, 54. Half as many as he usually does and he had a costly fumble in the Vikings game. Tired of that argument, they need to rewatch those games. Love CMC but they need to stop using October as a reason against Purdy because they both struggled during that time. Also Look how the team immediately looked deflated when Purdy was out of the game yesterday. I’d be happy with either one winning ❤️💛❤️💛

That roll out and toss to a wide open CMC was elite AF. That back shoulder throw to Deebo in the corner was elite AF. That throw to GK with a blitzing DE in his face was elite AF. All the things Purdy was supposed to struggle with (e.g., improvising, deep ball accuracy), have actually been what’s propelled SF to a new level. The offense has scored 40+ points on three separate occasions (correct me if I’m missing any). I honestly don’t care whether it’s Purdy or CMC for mvp, but no one is talking about the fact that every offensive player has gotten better with him behind center.

Has anyone thought about the fact that CMC is benefitting from the passing threat of SF? He's having an amazing year, but I would probably give him OPOY. Also, I like Lamar, but I'll take efficiency over style points. Purdy has 9 more total TDs with 4 fewer turnovers on fewer attempts.

Brock Purdy is elite. He executes at the highest level, under immense pressure without blinking. He’s leading the best team in the league. If he was a 1st rounder, they’d be giving it him already.

I get that the Ravens are not that big so a lot of the media doesn’t watch the games. But I want people to realize that Lamar has lost his best offensive weapon in his TE Andrews for the season, he lost his best RB J.k Dobbins for the season in week 1, he is down his other go to receiver in Duvernay for the regular season, and he’s now lost another running back in Keanan Mitchell last night for the season. That’s 4 offensive weapons that are gone…Yet they are tied for the best record in the league which no one expected and are 7-1 against teams with a winning record. Purdy not only has all of those, but has a top 5 player in each of those positions like it’s not close who the real MVP of their team is.

Wait, so what you’re saying is Brock Purdy doesn’t deserve it because of the three games they lost in the way he looked and he didn’t find a way to help them win, but Christian McCaffrey was playing during those same three games and he didn’t find a way to put the team on his back and win but yethe should be the MVP and not Brock Purdy. I think people putting that 3 game losing streak against Purdy is a bit over valued. The loss to the Browns he didn’t play great but when it mattered he made the plays and got them into FG range and the kicker missed, against the Vikings he got concussed in the second half and thats when the game got away from him. Only game I think can genuinely be held against him is the Bengals game because that was just an all around bad game.

I love CMC as a 49ers fan but nobody talks about CMC production when Trent Williams was hurt. Do your homework guys. Brock played great during the three game losing streak. He threw some picks but the defense was the reason that they lost three games. Do your homework or hire someone to do it for you. You are getting millions to do your job. You can afford it.

My counter to the 3 game losing streak is we learned that as a year 2 player that Brock Purdy's floor will still deliver you 17 points. Also people seem to forget that CMC himself had 2 fumbles in those 3 losses. One of which w a game winning drive for a chance to win but the rookie kicker missed. Bengals straight beat us. Vikings game was close with Brock playing one of his worst quarters. His learning curve has been astronomically higher than anyone else. I consider this his sophomore slump and now he's back to his winning ways. Harder to give Brock all the credit with the team around him but no QB prior has been able to elevate the team for Shanahan like this. Elite play yes. Elite title on him, not yet. Drew Brees was considered a bust by the Chargers as they shipped him off to NOLA after his shoulder injury and boy were they wrong and this guy has more of the mold of a more mobile Drew when you look at it all. Brock is doing things in the modern era time scale within season vs years and getting similar criticisms (in terms of not elite, small, etc more low pedigree vs bust in this case for the cynics) but his consistent play will become undeniable over time imho. Brady was carried by a great defense initially too but at QB you still have to have that something to win it all along your development and I strongly see and believe Brock has it. Go Niners!

Lamar has showed what people are saying about Purdy last night. Lamar has been playing without his best offensive players all season. To put it in San Fran terms, his Trent Williams has been in and out all season (Staley), his Kittle is out (Andrews), and his Mccaffery has been out all year (Dobbins), and he’s still getting criticized in wins. Lamar was still expected to win. For Purdy they say “well what would any qb do?” They’d still win. Lamar made some plays last night, despite being under duress all night, he still gets it done. Also Lamar ran for 97 last night AND he is the reason his running backs pop off (like they were trying to sneak in for Josh Allen this morning, yeah Lamar is the reason the ravens lead the league in rushing every year and Gus Edwards is still productive). This is ridiculous. Anybody coming back to this after the the teams played (regular season) not a good night for the Brock stans.

I also love it how all these commentators win they’re trying to say that Brock Purdy should not be in the MVP conversation. It is because of all of his weapons and they keep on calling Brandon Ayuk and Deebo Samuel elite playmakers, but if you ask those same commentators to name the top 10 wide receivers in the league They would not even mention Deebo or Brandon. I hear people saying that Purdy is benefiting because of an all pro offensive line. San Francisco’s offensive line is ranked 18th in the league.

You can't make that argument against Brock with that three-game stretch, because he played well in two of those games and the defense played absolutely horrendous in all three, plus he was concussed, so the fact that they are still trying to make this argument is ridiculous. The only game that he played truly bad in was against the Browns, and he still led them down the field and put them in winning field goal range...

I agree with Shannon here. You don’t have to be elite to win MVP necessarily. Cam Newton and Matt Ryan are two in recent history I can think of.

Gotta hand it to Shannon, he's been remarkably consistent on Purdy and on his own definition of what makes player elite. Personally, I think BP is right on that cusp, his star is growing, but "elite" to me means you are in the rarefied air of maybe 2 or 3 other players, consistently over time. BP has a shot at that. He hasn't *quite* transcended that, yet. MVP is a different story, and BP absolutely deserves to be in that conversation and yes the frontrunner today.

When it comes down to it they'll both be all pro at their position with the same amount of games played and neither will do anything historic so i think it simply comes down to Purdy plays a more important decision and is a better story but as a niner fan its cool seeing them both get love

MVP means you’re the most valuable player so if your teammates are out you should be able to carry your team to be considered MVP and Purdy aint done that. He’s not there yet but I’m sure he’ll get there.

Purdy's definitely playing great this year however I still feel the real MVP on the team is McCaffrey. Without McCaffrey I don't see this team being as good as they are.

I think the 49ers vs Ravens game this week will have massive impact on MVP this year. If Lamar goes into SF and wins hes prob the favorite.... if Purdy puts up good numbers and they beat them then he can prob coast to the award.

As a Niners fan, as much as I’d love to see Brock get it, I gotta agree with SAS. CMC is the backbone of the team, his running and catching abilities opens up everything for Brock, Deebo and co. He’s being as impactful as Faulk and Tomlinson right now and both were MVPs.

The Shanny scheme and play calling coupled with some tremendous talent at RB, WR, TE, LT and perhaps QB make for an offensive juggernaut. That may be part of the problem when selecting an MVP; how do you separate the "value" of Purdy from that of Deebo or CMC? When Deebo was out, the 9ers lost 3 games. CMC has been healthy, so we haven't had to see how Purdy would have to pick up the slack. Shanny's passing offense is predicated on play action built on a solid run game. It is so effective with CMC, that now the pass game is setting up the run game. It really is a machine. Christmas Night will be one of their toughest tests of the year, and could settle this MVP debate one way or another.

Josh Allen cannot be mvp if he’s not at least the 1,2, or 3 seed in his own conference leads the league in turnovers and isn’t even winning his own division. My money is on Lamar for MVP. I think he's been playing phenomenal this season and he's probably been the most consistent qb. If the Raven's somehow beat the 49er's next week I think he definitely deserves it.
