RU-vid User everybodylovesgav tipped me off in my last video that one guy bought close to every guitar that was listed in the Reverb Shop of Dave Mustaine - Megadeth. I knew the sale was happening, but wouldn't never had guessed one guy was going to buy out all the guitars. At the time of posting, there are only about 4 items left in it.
There are also rumours flying around that Dave Mustaine sold all of these Dean guitars because he is switching over the Gibson! That would be crazy! All we have are one incomplete "prototype" photo to go off of though.
Technically, his "all but, two" theory doesn't quite add up either. I believe he said he bought 16-17 guitars when there were 27 guitars/basses/banjos listed. Half would be closer to the truth, but oh well.

by the look of the headstock, that V is going to be a Kramer rather than branded a Gibson. Would be a smart move by Gibson to get a big name on that brand, seeing as they have revived it. Perhaps they could call it the Kramer Phoenix.

@super wukongo but the point is this Who the hell's going to have money first of all to just walk in there and play some instruments if you're going to have all these people playing these instruments to make back $42,000 and then make money on top of that what's going to be the condition of the guitars as well I think the guy is nuts and I'm a huge Megadeth fan as well silly the guy had some cash to layout 42000 just like that but does he have another 42000 , 42000 , 42000 , Megadeth is what it is and hopefully thrash heavy metal is not going away but at some point firstly with all the people that follow Megadeth in heavy metal and whatnot that spend their money on drugs it's no lie and they're not the only people how many people are just going to have money in general just to piss it away I'm playing his guitars ?? it's not like we're back in the 1980s or the 1990s that's particularly the 80s when Megadeth was brand new and you got a bunch of kids that are doing this everyone's in their forties and up who followed this band from its beginning or early beginnings and then he's in England to boot I don't think the people in Europe have a lot of money sloshing around in their pockets like we do in the United States that they can really afford to go pissing their money away ? it's something like this had happened maybe in the 90s that would be a dick pic. It would be a big difference. Hypothetically let's say Dave dies from this cancer now he's a dead rock idol but again is some guy in his 50s going to really pay the play his guitar as particularly if he doesn't play a guitar ? some people are just going to walk into this guy Studio and they're going to hand over an entrance fee just to hold one of his guitars how does he expect to conduct his normal business while conducting this memorabilia showing which is exactly what it is ? if the guy has a lot of money because he learned it or maybe he inherited it that's one thing but we're not aware of that and just because he was able to Shell out $42,000 which is in our money American money when I talk about in pounds 4 euros doesn't mean that he actually spent it wisely I'm not trying to be a wet mop or piss on the guys parade good for him I'm a fan just like he is he obviously laid the money out for it I wouldn't have been any more than by a few guitars but I wouldn't spend $42,000 especially since Megadeth is an old band it has a huge following but the point is is that it's always been overshadowed by Metallica to begin with not everybody loves Megadeth there's a lot of other thrash bands that people actually like better because they filled it Megadeth his in some ways sold out Perez Metallica has certainly sold out a long time ago and I don't think Metallica has ever been all that great to begin with compared to Megadeth they've had good songs they've had some good songs they have some good songs but they know we're nearly as good as Megadeth is in my opinion but the fact this is that Metallica still sells more records than Megadeth oddly. I'm wondering if this British dude here just likes British parades and that's kind of the sentiment that he had was that you know it's this big parade of this that and the other but meanwhile does anybody really going to see it my own they do like that parades and Brent and I know that much and I'm sure a lot of people turn out for those parades but then again nobody's paying for them the entrance fee there is no entrance fee these are conducted on public streets it's a freebie

@ssabp8313
@ssabp8313 4 года назад
@@@CarpeDiem23 : what I find so interesting about a person like yourself is already you're calling it someone being philosophical and writing an essay that's cute it already gives a hint at your mindset. Let's take a look at what's called philosophy let's take a look at what's called business since what's called economics. let's just look at the guitar industry on a whole how many guitar companies no longer exist and have Consolidated with the likes of Fender and Gibson who have always been the two largest and continue to be the two largest guitar companies in the world but that of course you have coretec Samick but they're not Fender and they're not Gibson but they're Giants. Fender has swallowed Jackson and Charvel which it one time were the same company but Jackson spun-off Charvel and now essentially they're back together under fender Fender also owns Hamer they own Kaman. Gibson took over Kramer has Baldwin Pianos I'm sure Gibson owns other companies without people even really realizing that Gibson owns them and I don't doubt that so who's really left out there PRS which was a nothing company but has become a huge company Dean moderately big company BC Rich is still standing on its own but I highly doubt that BC Rich will be around very much longer Music Man Ernie balls are now the same company that always seem like a likely one to me also. not sure about Rickenbacker oh wait hold on a minute Fender also owns Gretsch. and in case you've noticed my friend home grown guitars and the United States having the biggest guitar companies in the world and the Lion's Share of guitar sales everything has shifted to foreign made instruments in which case secretly things were always made overseas as well but now it appears to be that the emphasis has grown even more so we're coretec and Sonic have obviously benefited and why is this the case it's called economics the demand for guitars bases has dropped dramatically it's not the 1980s anymore it's not even the early 90s the music industry has changed dramatically it's called demand it's called a lack of disposable income changing age demographics and taste demographics does that sound like philosophy to you or does that sound like simple economics ? How wrong am I what why don't you tell me how wrong I am I know that the metal scene is extremely huge in Europe it's huge Europe has massive festivals which we don't have in the United States which is only a testament to the massive heavy metal Hard Rock following of Europe and I say that thankfully but again this guy has a studio outside of London I believe now $42,000 isn't really a hell of a big investment but $42,000 is $42,000 he has a recording studio and supposedly he's going to get people to come in and record what exactly on these guitars they're going to play the E chord the a chord the D chord the C chord and the G chord and walk off after having paid some kind of money to have this recorded just that they could say that they played on Dave Mustaine guitars in which case who even really knows if these guitars were ever truly played on if you just listen to the video they might very well have just been freebie guitars that were given to him he has no attachment to them. I don't wish this guy the worst I don't want to see him fail I just made an observation based on facts and of course you call that philosophy in which case in a lot of ways philosophy is based on facts as well when you think it's based on observation obviously that's what the early philosophers of always done they've based it on observation their experiences. how long am I wanted you tell me how wrong I am? In case you know about Dave Mustaine past Dave Mustaine grew up around their poor kid regardless of the fact that his estranged investment-banking father really didn't have much to do with his son what's the weather leaving his single mother to Bear the burden of I believe he also has a sister ? so Dave grew up a poor struggling kid who persevered with his second band thankfully and a little bit of luck also played a part in it but a lot of hard work and talent obviously put him where he is but he decided to sell Dean guitars which the American ones are very good instruments Dean happens to be an excellent guitar and a few other knick-knacks at bargain-basement prices why because he's a nice guy ? Actually me think about it he is he's an extremely nice guy obviously the prices of the guitars reflect that he never really use them !! being the ex drug dealer that he was he has no truly formal education although from what I understand he's extremely intelligent in his mind he couldn't bring himself to overpriced he's guitars and sell them as if they were actual touring guitarist that have been used by him. says something about Dave Mustaine I believe he's worth tens of millions of dollars I don't know if he's a multi multi multi-millionaire but he's a multi-millionaire for the most part he couldn't bring himself to actually bulshit someone put something over on someone pulled the wool over on someone's eyes and make a few extra dollars that hey he's a capitalist he's not a hippie rocker he's not living in a communist he's never lived in a communist I don't believe he has communist night ideas whatsoever he's not only a musician he's a businessman what does that tell you ? so if the guy that bought them is hoping to possibly even sell them for a premium anybody that knows anything about Qatar as anybody that knows anything about Megadeth or the thrash metal scene etcetera is going to say the same thing that I am the same thing that the video brought out these are basically peripheral extra guitars that probably never even played. so this guy is going to risk $42,000 to say make $43,000 maybe $45,000 maybe even 50,000 and over what. Of time is his initial investment going to sit there before he recoups the initial amount and then the premium ? he would have to actually sit there and b******* people and falsify the sale and say hey look at these are are touring guitars which have a little bit of his sweat on and that he's even recorded albums with for that matter but let's just called them touring guitars he has to lie about it. God forbid Dave doesn't make it through the cancer then you're trying to say there's going to be this massive excessive premium that he's going to make on this $42,000 investment because now this is a dead heavy metal founding father of thrash ? I hope for the guy's sake that he doesn't get burnt ! if he decides to keep the guitars and have people come in and played a guitars and record with them and then make money off for that well guess what they're no longer Dave's Guitars. these guitars or let's just say one guitar that someone owned isn't Jimi hendrix's guitar that had been owned by four or five owners these are now simply Used Guitars and very very Used Guitars ! I hope this guy is Mommy and or Daddy is from aristocracy nobility or he just has a sizable chunk of money from his own business efforts

@@@CarpeDiem23 : by the way how is the European economy doing these days specifically Great Britain I see it probably in the same situation that we are over here in the United States we're actually not doing bad at all but it's nowhere near what it was in the 80s and even in the better part of the 90s after the 91 92 recession. Then again for the most part the USA is the economic engine of the world and if we slow down everyone slows down a lot more than we do for the most part. Please don't tell me that China is the economic engine of the world it's not it's nothing more than a fishing port it also exports slave labor and when the USA says jump it jumps when Europe says jump it jumps China has nothing more to offer except cheap Manpower that's it that's its export that is it's one claim on the world that has very little resources of its own oddly that's why they depend on Australia so much
@CarpeDiem23
@CarpeDiem23 4 года назад
Well, economy is not like it was earlier, but it's not that bad, it depends from country to country, not sure about Britain, because I live in small touristic country in Balkan, Montenegro. We had better days here, but generally we've been always shit hole in comparison to other reacher countries..Anyway, last 20 years, when Euro came, all countries in Europe started to suffer and went down in economy, but again, it hits richest countries mostly..I find that you are right about something, but you are wrong about China sir, they actually pull strings by biggest part in the world lately, only blind man cannot see it or stupid one, and I think that you're not the second one, but you obviously speak from some patriotic reasons.. Look, I'm total outsider so I don't have reason to speak about China positively what is not. It was clash of economic titans, (USA and China) and it's clear that battle doesn't go up to your hand all the time, just look brands of all your staff and furniture in your very home and see is it made in America or from far east somewhere, mostly China ;-)

@@TheAtariCreep Dave offered to buy Jackson before Fender made an offer. Dave didn't like the endorsement Fender/Jackson offered him (especially with what he had for a deal prior to the Fender buyout) so he went to work with ESP. He sold his Jacksons because he didn't want to use gear from a company that dicked him over twice. I think he did the same thing with his ESPs when he went to Dean. So pro-tip to Gibson: don't try to screw over Dave because he'll use your gear EXCLUSIVELY until that point. Unlike a lot of other guitarists with prominent signature models, I've never seen Dave use a guitar from the brand that wasn't currently endorsing him (and I've seen Megadeth about 15 times since 2000). I can see Gibson making him pointier 24-fret Vs and Explorers with Seymour Duncan Live Wires as a signature model, and I'll definitely buy a lefty Dave Explorer if they offer it =D (Dean offered a bunch of lefty Dave signatures).

If you're an endorser and the company you're endorsing for gets sold, then maybe it's a little more important to you than a youtube comment section. If the fit after the purchase would've been good, I'm sure he would've stayed, but fender probably anticipated cutting costs on endorsements and dean was trying to build market share at the same time. Pretty easy decision. If he picks up an endorsement from someone other than dean, especially if it's gibson, there's no reason for him to hold all of these guitars. Gibson is probably picky about the guitar players are seen with. Not going to keep gibson from being a crap company in my opinion, though.

Dave sold those at those prices because for him they’re just guitars he bought from the store or ordered/got from the manufacturers, at the end of the day, he doesn’t see the high price tags that Megadeth fans would see because he’s part of Megadeth

What would be a big middle finger for this purchaser is if Dave bought some more guitars and sold them at the same prices but this time limited one item to one purchaser. Additionally great feature to add is an option to specificity indicate one buyer per item to give others a chance...I would add a secondary feature which offers one item per to buyer base on a schedule perhaps 24 to 48 hours then open it up to multiple items per buyer. Great video!

I think all his very important stuff is/was lost stolen of forgotten somewhere. Yes, I see nothing of any actual historical importance here, just a bunch of promotional stuff he was given he had laying around and was sick of tripping over and moving around over and over. Fans attach WAAAY too much sentimental value to these things and that's what the guy who bought all this stuff is banking on. Personally I think he made a bad investment.

In the video he said most of these types of guitars end up in non player hands and just on a wall or under the bed , because they guitars are so expensive that only rich people can buy them . I totally understand that , however i didn't realize that Daves guitars were being sold for so cheap! many real Megadeth fans who are also player could have afforded them , considering most of them were listed cheaper then most brand new gibsons ! . Of course he is entitled to buy all them if he has the money and he defo did the video for recognition . But at the end of the day its still a slimy move to pull and basically gloat HAHAHA i got all the guitars. P.s in the video he says they will answer all questions directed towards them . Love Megadeth, but don't really care for his Dean guitars. It's Jackson or bust for me. Apparently he tried to buy Jackson, but it fell through. Had it not, he'd still play Jackson guitars to this day. He also kept his #1 Jackson, which was one of the first ones he got when he started endorsing them. It had the 3d Megadeth logo on it during the Rust in Peace era, but he had it repainted into a silver finish before/during the Countdown To Extinction sessions (He also had another one painted just like it, but the knob locations are slightly different) . It was his #1 stage & recording guitar for years, and he still used it to track the Dystopia album. David Ellefson auctioned all of his gear as well, so he doesn't have any of his old Jackson basses anymore. Marty Friedman auctioned most of his guitars away in two auctions, one for Jason Becker and the other for the tsunami victims in Japan. His webmaster owns his first Kelly (It was originally painted in a tiger stripe finish, with 2 humbuckers and a kahler trem, which was later painted black, the neck p.u cavity was filled and the kahler trem was replaced with a non-trem kahler bridge. It had 22 frets & a rosewood fingerboard. It's one of the first Jacksons ever built apparently) which he used for all the rhythm tracks on Rust in Peace and other stuff, as well as his first endorsement Kelly (which he recorded all the leads on RIP on, it had an ebony fingerboard & 24 frets) from Jackson as well.

@ Ricky Boyd h : what I didn't like about Dean's move with the headstock is they gave it the fender inline headstock verse the much better headstock that Dean came along with later on then the typical Gibson paddle I don't know why his Flying V he's had to have that kind of a headstock I I really don't like it you should have had more of a traditional Gibson type headstock but the dean one was much better than the Gibson like Hamer PRS and even Jackson's 3 and 3 head stock. ESP did the same thing for his Flying V use and Explorer shaped guitars I just thought it was ugly those in line headstocks they really just look like they belong on Strat style guitar Jackson's angled headstock banana headstock it look damn good on the V the Kelly Jackson which is really nothing more than a an Explorer it looks damn good with a banana angled headstock but between ESP and Dean with the inline headstock Strat style headstock it just didn't look good book totally out of place on the guitar but I do know the dean's do play very well supposedly I I picked up one once and it did have a very comfortable neck I didn't exactly get a chance to sit there and inspect the rest of the guitar not that I ever really go through that much trouble to begin with unless it's something that seems very obvious although I've inspected my own guitars before particularly to Gibson's Les Paul's and I have a Jackson soloist and I have noticed on the Les Paul Custom from 1984 that I have do I see any sloppy paint work no I've never seen sloppy paint work so far but I know that there have to be little intricate things that people that really really look at detail notice and I look at detail but I've just never had an opportunity to inspect any other guitars but my own. Dean's original headstock was that wacky two prong Fork headstock I've never heard anybody complain that their Dean never stayed in tune that's for worse than any Gibson headstock I think Dean just put really good nuts on their guitars that's why I've never heard about them going out of tune it's possible that one of the reasons why they got rid of the original headstock was because if you drop the damn thing you're going to crack it very very easily aside from the fact that it's got an angled headstock to boot the second headstock they came out with which resembles more of the trapezoid or a Delta shaped headstock I thought it was great and I've seen it on there Explorer models before in the past in the 1980s it looked damn good but the inline headstock of the latter Dean's and ESP they suck it just doesn't go with the guitar it's ugly

@@ssabp8313 That headstock (assuming he's actually moving to Gibson) is just a slightly modified Explorer headstock really. Same thing with the Jackson Headstock, it's just an explorer headstock that's "cut off" at the tip, making it resemble the nose of a Concorde airplane.

I could see where Dean is coming from with that modification now that you're bringing it out but I ain't too hot on it it just doesn't do anything for me even the even the ESP headstock it has a different tip it's reversed compared to like the typical Jackson angle which is downward Force upward I never liked it it just didn't hit me the right way

@@@Nghilifa I'm actually beginning to think that they've probably is secretly a Gibson guitar collector he probably collects a lot of guitars No Doubt but it is kind of interesting that Gibson did put out a Dave Mustaine model look it up I know that he did play a Dean Cadillac which was originally the elite which was the cross between a Les Paul and an explorer he even plays one on one of the videos I forgot that the song off of euthanasia that he plays it in but I think more than likely Dave is probably a Les Paul Explorer Flying V type guy but he's just been fed up with Gibson full. While I mean I can understand why Gibson has never offered him an out-and-out endorsement when they actually have a signature Les Paul of him already that's a bit weird but like I mentioned it another comment he's openly kicked Gibson in the past when Al pitrelli was playing in the band he made a comment about I don't know why people would ever play Gibson's when there are better guitars out there then Gibson and here you have Al pitrelli playing a black standard Les Paul and a black explorer exclusively those were his two guitars apparently he's another Gibson guy and after he got done with the Kramer endorsement when he was in Alice Cooper's band he went right back to the Gibson Les Paul and Explorer

Hate is undeserved... I like it and would do something similar if I had the resources for some other artists. And he’s making them available in the studio... A lot of studios have a Tele or Les Paul that you can use for recording so it’s nice to have some guitars that have a different sound. Now onto this guy buying them all as an investment. Most average people dont understand how "ruthless" business decisions have to be made to succeed. When you see an opportunity you go for it. I say kudos to this guy. Brilliant promotional and investment opportunities all wrapped up in one package.

Am I bitter. You bet I am. I first saw Megadeth back in 1987, hitched across country to get to the show. Big moment was to actually meet the man himself with my son on the Dystopia Tour. We briefly chatted about bikes and even surgery got in there. I have a similar condition to the one that Dave had in his neck but mine is in the lower spine and has left me relying on strong pain meds and walking aids. All that aside. I was hoping to get at least one of the guitars, two would have been great so my son would have one also. Unfortunately by the time the Reverb email hit my inbox and I got online they’d all gone 😢😢. I’d like to think the new owner was going to share with those who use his studio, but like many who’ve already commented I feel he’s being more of an opportunist.

Metallica never had a contract with Gibson, just James having white V and then got stuck with Explorers till signing with ESP in '88 after Kirk.
