272 Wh/k = 435 Wh/mi. Wow that is bad for a vehicle that is not towing. It goes to show how cold can affect EVs. Love your comments during the video.

It's "km", not just k. "k' means 1,000, it's just a number. "km" means 1,000 meters. kg means 1,000 grams. You are welcome. It will never be too late when the "Americans" will stop using miles, yards, feet, inches, fingernails and pube's hairs and will start using the meter, just the meter, only the meter.

nice video. I've been waiting a long time in the USA for this to be available, but the more I learn about it the longer I want to keep my reliable, comfortable, fully paid for 2012 Chrysler Town and Country minivan. Our everyday driver is a 2021 BMW i3s, and as much as I'd love to go 100% EV (and how cool the VW looks) the price and compromises of the idBuzz (relatively short range, expensive, less than amazing tech) don't make much sense for us. cheers

You are getting the newer LWB version in the US which should have quite a few of the v1 shortcomings fixed: more efficient, heat pump, bidirectional charging (allegedly), newer software, bigger, more power. Can't remember if they are fixing the stupid not-buttons. The extra battery is probably more or less countered by the larger vehicle, but the improved efficiency should get at least a few more miles. We'll have to wait and see on that.

I use Kia Niro'21 with heatpump and it consumes 5 kW in -16 C for at least 10 min until interior gets warmer. Heatpump doesn't work at -16 C because it would require more energy to collect heat outside compared to just use electricity for resistance heater

My EV experience comes from Model 3 and the Y. Got my Buzz for almost about a year ago. The bad software and buttons in the Buzz is reason enough not to get the car for many. Can’t believe that VW put this crap into this otherwise great practical and very comfortable car. Like you said, a heat pump should also be standard equipment in any EV in Europe., at least in Norway. I shall be very careful about rumors but I’ve heard, even when the 4WD long wheelbase Buzz comes along with a slightly bigger battery, the range will not improve. I really hope that will not be the case. Anyway. A heat pump, better buttons, improved software including an app where you can actually adjust settings and 4WD will make the car a whole lot better. Still got the Y too though. Love your video.

the Buttons on the steering wheel are a pain. They feel so bad. :( In a rented ID3 we crashed the software on the first kilometers by going to the license agreement. Than we needed to navigate with the telephone. After a few hours parking, the infotainment was working again...yeah...

Rest of the year i tend to get just about or sometimes over the rated range. Good to see it tested in harsh conditions. Comparing a bus to a car is however giving the wrong impression. Out of all electric mini vans this VW iD Buzz is still way ahead of his competitors. Bothin power consumption and range. It also has by far the best recharge time out of all vans. Conclusion: electric vans suck. But also: The VW id Buzz is still the best in his own class, by a big margin.

Weight doesn’t matter as much as aerodynamics. It doesn’t really matter unless you are climbing(accelerating) the weight a lot. You regain some of it when descending.
@louisvanrijn3964
@louisvanrijn3964 5 месяцев назад
Software seems clumsy. The software must think as the user thinks in that situation, this car software doesn't. "It has very bad software" (19:33) Forcasting larger battery reserves than reality is simply creating dangerous situations. If the car stops hill-up at a two lane road...the accident is near. The last thing you want. The test driver is telling VW-engineering what to do..(20:41). The car heater (consuming 6 kW) uses half of the energy of a small car driving on a highway. For defrosting the screens it is a must...

The problem is in this life everything is a compromise (apart from my wife in case she reads this). Concerns about range in an arctic environment are fine if you live in an arctic environment & need to be taken into consideration but for many the range (even when -25c) will not be an issue. I guess that most EVs find their place as a 2nd vehicle which gives owners the ability to play to their strengths, at some point in the future that restriction may disappear. In the end we make a decision on videos like this which give a real world view of function rather than the manufacturer’s brochure. Great video & you have a new subscriber.

Just discovered your channel and enjoyed the content. Do you think that a heat pump would give real efficiency gains at -17°? Here in Canada I find the heat pump is a real benefit from +5° to -5° beyond those temperatures the heat pump either has to work really hard or at the warmer end the heat is hardly needed so there aren’t many kw saved.
@RoamingNorway
@RoamingNorway 6 месяцев назад
Heatpumps are different from each other. Some are more effective down low, and some are not. It depends on the refrigiants ability to capture the little heat that is actually available in the air. In these EVs, you are often able to capture heat from motors, battery etc. which helps with the efficiency when it is cold. It is difficult to measure though, but I think a full octovalve system like Tesla uses, absolutely does offer a benefit in the cold. Thank you so much for watching!

@@tcat0211 saving? depends on your gas car comparison, medium diesel cars pretty good economy, depreciation of ev so far a disaster, time is money, stopping at mostly horrible charging areas, and endless mcdonalds or burgerking snacks with all these 30 minutes or more stops gets very tiring in the long run, gas prices could easily be a lot cheaper, they are high now by market manipulation and poor politicsl decisions. Insurance premiums fir ev’s have run away in some countries. I have nothing against ev but the practicalities are poor and the whole concept of better environment is a huge joke, i mean billions of huge 300kilo+ nasty chemical batteries? an environment disaster far greater than plant food co2😅

I had a VW GTE years back. it was the last VW ever, I will never own a car from this brand again. the EV part was horrible, on top of that was the VW service. every problem was talked out with 'o we will do a software update'. sometimes it was in the service twice a week. the special DSG gearbox broke 3 times and VW support was mediocre. Sometimes I had to discover in the morning that the car stopped charging halfway. Generally i felt like a guinnea pig. after that i got a Nissan Leaf for a while and that was by leaps a better car.

I‘m at full throttle, full throttle. Why? What for? When you‘re ice sliding anyway? And all that while you‘re heading into curves? Have you never learned to drive a car? Seems that the car assistance features have to cover your ass a lot. In addition complaining about range and not heating up the batteries as needed, while knowing it is needed. Instead complaining a lot, very norwegian? Not to my experience. I am sorry, but I only had a chance to meet very knowledgeable, smart and humble norwegians, yet, even in the most remote places. Even got speed-trapped.

Quite a nonsensical vehicle for travelling. 14:43 Charging full, then having 118km to have the battery estimated to 20% remaining? The Buzz is more a vehicle for short-haul city transport. It is advertised as a family vehicle, but there it is crap.

Fact_HW is ok. Software is junk. Price is ridicolous. Just the same as with the ID.3, ID.4 ID.7, Enyaq, all Audis and Porsches. And the App is useless. I would not want to have a future EV without the same functionality as Tesla. Thats a mandatory functionality.

I think there are some good aspect and some bad aspects. The software is bad, but they can make EVs. They get some of the stuff right, and make some fantastic EVs (Taycan).
@wolfgangpreier9160
@wolfgangpreier9160 6 месяцев назад
@@RoamingNorway I do not think the Taycan is fantastic. For me it seems like a overweight and over - everything EV. They even put a gearbox inside. What a bummer! They should have made a lightweight Porsche with less than 1400kg, 60kWh battery and 0-100 under 3 seconds. A sporty car. A E-Boxster or even a E-911. Not a overweight behemoth. Even my Model 3 is faster than this thing. The Skoda Enyaq is well made, very nice and comfy interior and it works ok. But it is -as all VAG products - much too expensive. I got one for cheap in 2021 and it works, but no updates whatsoever. If VW produces acceptable Software, UI and App and lowers their price into Tesla and BYD regions i could consider at least a Skoda again. 90K for a IDBuzz? Sorry, i'll wait for my Cybertruck which will cost roughly the same.

Tesla makes app, German makes cars. Both need to learn. Germans vans are absolutely the best cars for driving in own class. I test drove Tesla model y, with all respect the app and the space are only two positive things about it. In terms of driving and actually enjoying the driving it is decades back from any modern German car. Tesla is powerful, but having proper steering and suspension is important as well at least for me, could not find that from Tesla 🤷‍♂️

@@RoamingNorway model 3 is very small car, model y is only one which is sensible as one car in the house hold for the family , but getting into model y after current Volvo xc60t8 feels like enormously down grading, at least for me🤷‍♂️ quality of interior in the car so much lower than in majority of European cars and driving experience is very poor, suspension in model y was huge disappointment on Finnish winter roads. I had rental Passat on my work trip in Germany, driving-wise it beats Tesla model y by far. Germans are not strong yet in app part for ev but in being solid cars with proper driving abilities in all conditions is something Tesla needs to catch up on as well building quality of interior and seats. It is hard get used to shapeless sofa after sport seat experience of any premium European car. It is all about compromise in putting things in the important order for each individual🤷‍♂️

The problems with the legacy car manufacturers are that they are big unwieldy companies that see software as something separate from the modern car and especially when it comes to EV’s. The pipeline is god in these companies and the planning is done in terms of years of development that is carved in stone and nimbly pivoting to fix anything is just beyond their mindset and capabilities right in the corporate DNA. They will not fix this problem until they have change forced upon them somehow, either from market forces or legislation. Leadership might achieve some kind of reform from within if they are very lucky with their talent spotting and very smart with their choices in promoting the right mindset from their own pool of employees. But I wouldn’t be holding my breath while hoping for change as I’ve become rather attached to living since, since being born? ( has it really been that long? Why yes it has I suppose, I mean if I’m really honest about it.)🤔🫢🫤😐🙄😬🫡🤐😶🫥
