Oh Dan, I don’t think that any of us who are watching would dare to say that it’s just a few bricks. Not counting all the ups and downs on the ladders, stairs the winching, etc., it is one hell of an accomplishment even as of this point. Good job, Dan, and yes, you can say so yourself!
I have to be taken out of Canadian Tire by force... b/c they're more than just tires, they're my obsession and looking at tools/stuff is my drug 🤪(can't even walk near HomeHardware w/o getting a buzz) lol
Oh, that brick arch is so beautiful. I wish those people who say they wished your videos were longer would stop saying that. I think they are wrong. Your videos are so well edited. You get a lot done, but your videos don’t drag on and on. You do a great job. Good man❤
I also can’t wait for them to arrive to view. Dan, what a man is so right. Really enjoy the methodical way you tackle each job. You must be getting very calloused hands by now not wearing gloves that I know can sometimes impede the work. Keep safe and take care.
I agree. Short videos are great. I can’t cope with the fluff in other’s videos and I fast forward through them! Lol! Don’t arches need a keystone? Wondering minds need to know..
It is beautiful dan. Last week you almost lost me. Fell head first into the garden. I laid there for a while to see if anything was broken. Praise God, this old girl has strong bones. Kicked off my shoes an crawled out backwards. One slight sprained wrist an ankle. Few days of rest and I am back. 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻🏋️♀️
So not only rebuilding a chateau single handed, editing your posts, but managing to find humorous titles. I get worn out watching you, and so envy your energy and nerve, am addicted.
The lack of temporary stairs makes sense now! I remember the local vendor coming to discuss the scaffold, too. But I had no idea is was going all the way the turret! Looking forward to seeing that all set up. And that arch looks remarkable. My late husband used to say "the project isn't done until you have to make at least one unplanned stop at the builder's supply store!" You're in good company LOL.
Wetting of bricks assists in removing the dirt, sand and dust from them. Further, it prevents the suction of water from wet mortar, as otherwise mortar is likely to dry out soon and crumble before attaining strength.
Never saw that before on any construction job so I looked it up. It's an old school technique, impossible to use on big jobs, but fine for small work by individuals like this.
SO much progress already! I wouldn't even know where to start rebuilding a chateau in ruin like this. Your vision for this build is inspiring 🌟Thanks for sharing your process with us all. Just keep swimming!
Dan, you might want to start up a workout class and call it “Legs of Steel ala Chateau de Chaumont”. Only two or four hours a day needed for the summer of 2023. As with most workers in France, it will be up to you to provide lunch at the end of the "class"/shift along with a fresh cool beer, that alone might entice a few volunteers. Start off small with one person mixing the cement and watering down the bricks, one to hoist up the buckets and you laying the bricks. Of course, volunteers will need to sign a statement of liability and you will need to be swapping out their workouts for a full body experience, heck it might even become so popular that people might pay you for the chance to climb those ladders 20 times in a session. You never know, see ya tomorrow.
The drone view makes it much easier for us at home to see the overall view of the house than the close-up views. It also confirms that the area you are working in is really the core of the entire structure and binds together all of what must be seven or eight or nine meter high spindly exterior walls with those tiny little metal beams holding together one entire wing on each of three sides of the house. Your dropping that one beam a few days ago could have brought down one whole side of the chateau. I couldn't have done it. You are a brave man, Charley Brown. Also, you have every right to be completely chuffed about what you have accomplished so far. Not bad for a cook, I'd say. That being said, perhaps an outdoor grill on the rooftop may not be such a bad idea after all. Hey, you already have enough smoke damage. Jack L.
Hi Dan if you had a lot more buckets with the handles standing up and you put a small grappling hook on the winch you could fill all the buckets with concrete and bricks then from the top just hook each bucket and winch it up without going down each time . Also why don’t you get a lorry load of sand delivered you r going to need it . Your doing a great job mate it is lovely building that deserves the love you are giving it well done best regards Andy from Felixstowe UK.
I am a little old lady from Idaho,US, been loving every minute of watching you play in the mud. Ha! I've loved it all. My husband and I rebuilt a couple places but not in brick. It is like medicinal every brick. Keep it up please, but don't overwork your body. Imagine, your mind creates it and the work of your hands produces it , it comes to life in your hands. I love it. Laurie
I cant tell you how inspirational this is. You've caught onto something here, and I implore you to keep it going. The other channels are good, but this is very special; one man, climbing a mountain, clearly a grafter, and seemingly unstoppable. I love it
I definitely agree with Mark, there are other channels but I really like watching your channel and your sense of humor makes my day. You have a beautiful family, I love seeing them too.
I'd be taking a strimmer up with me. The Hanging Garden of Babylon would drive me nuts - all those roots and leaves in my face. You have tolerance, Dan!
The wall and arch look amazing! I can understand why you are so chuffed with what appears such a small thing, but it's one of the pivots for the great turning points.
I can't help it....I just smile every time I see Dan accomplish another day at the Chateau! This has got to be the most satisfying vlog to watch! Thank you Dan!
I am continually surprised at the amount of work ahead for you. It is a hell of a commitment, for years ahead especially as you are alone. Goodness. Glad you are loving what you are doing. Best wishes.
Just think Dan.....When all is complete, and every time you walk under this arch you can smile and think back ...."when I built this I could look up and see the beautiful sky"..... cool huh? 😊......not to mention it looks awesome!!
Hello Dan, don't know if you read comments but the wall going up is like a magical thing to see emerging from all the chaos. The Arch is lovely and I can see you are pleased and you should be. Well Done! Carol in Nova Scotia
What a great opening shot of the chateau she is situated so beautifully in the forest. It’s great to see the pleasure in your face as you achieve another milestone. Well done Master Dan. May the force be with you. 🦾
It’s really fun to see you actually rebuilding the brick walls and floors now. I love the new arch. I think it was a great idea to add arches on the upper level as well. Nice work!!
Your making HUGE progress!! I love the brickwork and am excited to see a roof on that section of the Chateau. Truth be known the Château is loving you for putting so much loving kindness in to make it beautiful again. ❤
Another great video. Just watching the progress is amazing. The arch is absolutely beautiful! Brick by brick your dream is coming true and will truly be something to be proud of. Lots of work to be sure. Stay safe.
It’s not a few bricks, it’s incredible what you’re doing, every day is most definitely worth watching. Progress might be slow, but you’re only one man but at least you’re doing it right ,great job. ❤
The new arch and section of wall look really beautiful. Such nice work, Dan. Glad you're putting the arches in on the higher floors. It brings a consistent design element to the Chateau. You won't regret spending the time to do it. It's easy to see why you're so happy. Everything is coming together and you've got a lot of momentum now. Cheering you on from afar. And marveling that I find watching you do brickwork or shovel rubble or whatever so interesting. Never would have guessed that.
You keep saying 'it doesn't look like much has been done ' to me it looks like a massive amount of work that you have done alone. You have built what three floors already? I am impressed ! Your brick work looks so good. I'm thrilled I along with everyone else get to witness you putting this lovely lady back together again. Take care and get some rest. I'll see you tomorrow!
Don't ever say its just a few bricks. What it is is your own grit and determination moving you forwards consistently. I love each and every episode and Dan you are the man who can. Your vlogs are the very best part of my day.
Yes, I will second Paul Bombardier's comments! You have shown wisdom in listening to your subscribers, with their own expertise - helping you even though so many of us are thousands of miles away:( We do appreciate all of your tenacious work and ethos! Well done, Daniel:)
Keep up the great work! I'm really looking forward to seeing the entire rebuild.. brick by brick by bloody brick.. Be safe Dan.. you've got this!! 👊🏼😎🤘🏼
Well done again Dan ... Don't worry about the stairs just because we are looking forward to the day. All in perfect timing. I can visualize when it is all complete, the boys running up and down the hallways, picking out their bedrooms. Will be watching every episode until the end.
It doesn’t look like a little Dan, you surprise us with how much progress you get done each day. The mere fact of how much time is involved getting your equipment and supplies up and down the floors to do a job, shows how motivated you are. Not only that, just the added thinking about repositioning the camera and camera angles as you work must take time too. We appreciate the professionalism of your videos which hopefully reaps you the rewards for your efforts. 👍🥰
Honestly, that's more progress than a certain German full-time RU-vidr gets in a whole week! I think he's spent two or even three weeks building new brick foundations underneath his repaired timber frame. Granted, it's a fiddly job because you're working on the floor and underneath the sill in a forest of acrows but still it's slow going compared to this channel.
🧱👏🏰 Dan, let me assure you that none of us watching would underestimate the immense effort and accomplishment it takes to work with those bricks. From climbing ladders and stairs to the meticulous winching, it's a challenging task that deserves recognition. Great job, Dan! You can proudly acknowledge your hard work and dedication! Keep us curious and amazed! 💪🔨👷♂
So enjoying your progress every day. Dan I wish I had the means and the time to come over to France and help you out for a couple of months. Cheers man from Canada 🇨🇦
Alright Dan, I’m loving watching your progress on this renovation. I’m a bit late to the party so I may have missed you talking about this. Have you had a structural engineer look at the building and tell you what can stay and what needs to go? I’m worried that you are building some beautiful bits like the arch only to be told you have to knock the whole thing down because it isn’t stable and safe.
That’s a beautiful arch Dan. We are all going to be arch building experts before this is completed. I bet they know you well at Brico. See ya tomorrow.
I just discovered this channel and have been binge watching the renovation of the chateau. I applaud your desire to make the brickwork look good. It may take a little longer but there's nothing like the "satisfaction of a job well done." It looks great!
Thanks you Dan give life back to this old lady (the chateau). You are saving a part of the French Historical Patrimony. Is there a possibility to obtain the château will be listed on the inventaire supplémentaire des monuments historiques (as an historical building). After that you could get some help from the government (subventions and taxe reduction). Thank you Dan to save a witness a French history.
So glad that you are finding some of the comments helpful,Dan. I’m sure sure viewers are offering their expertise/experience because they want to see you succeed at what seemed an impossible task
I saw on another project recently as they did the internal lime rendering they embedded a fibreglass mesh into it. I think it was required by their structural engineer. Helps to tie all the old stone and brick work together. Might be something to consider.
@@Ragnar8504 no apparently not. It has a structural element that helps tie the wall together. I can't say much more than that as that was all I saw on the other channel. It gets embedded in a base layer then topped with a second layer so I don't think cracks are the issue and as I said it was required by the structural engineer on the other project so not just cosmetic. Again all I know about it.
It would be wonderful for Dan to have an electric scaffold like Billy Petherick uses at the convent. Probably not enough extension though and definitely costs a fortune.
@@debbierudolph9489 With only four wheels I'm afraid it might crash through the floor. Besides, getting a scissor lift up to the ground floor would be tricky. And don't forget Billy's ceilings are something like five m high, while Dan's second floor is probably a good 7 or 8 m up.
Every thing that you have done is awesome! The place was dying and now it is coming back to life! The old building is happy and coming to life! You have accomplished so much! Love and prayers vfrom Wyoming USA Robbie McVay and Sasha and mocha
You sir are a man with multiple skills, I'm sure most of us wouldn't even know where to begin, let alone be able to handle carpentry and masonry work as efficiently as you have, great job! I thoroughly enjoy your daily videos and find myself wishing they were longer, keep up the good work.
