Winter came quick and couldn't finish the garage. Had a couple warm days and scrambled to get some work done but didn't have time to fiddle with the camera. Have a good winter everyone.
You can use flexible hoses and nail them to the studs to create areas for putting shovels, rakes and other yard tools along the sides. It is not as nice as peg boards, or a 4 inch board with holders, but it takes up less space. I just helped my brother put up at 12 x12 outbuilding at his house. The previous owners had a concrete pad and we really just built it for yard and other stuff. Then put a small wood stove in it. Next is the larger concrete pad.
For those two corners of the garage door that show a gap, I would just use a little bit of butyl caulk to close the gap. It should look fine. Enjoyed watching the build series. I think I would have gone for a metal roof, and used a different rafter to give room for storage overhead. But you've done a very good job, and it's something you can be proud of.
Thanks for commenting. The gaps are there for expansion, now that it's summer they are almost closed all the way, there is a decorative corner piece that attached to one side which covers the gaps and still allows expansion. The roof was done with shingles to match our house, in 15 years when I need to replace the house shingles, I'll do metal on both. The attic space was considered but the building inspector was going to require a completely different concrete pad that I wasn't willing to pay for.
I'm a tool and die maker from wisconsin watched all the vids liked all the little tricks of the trade you did to complete it gives me alot of ideas when i build mine hope you are a Rush fan living in canada but thanks again for posting
Love your videos. Have helped me a lot on my garage build. I'm about ready to do the siding but not sure how to do the garage doors. What did you use around the edges of your doors?
Hi. I have another video coming on the siding and trim but I’ve been waiting on one piece of drip edge that keeps coming in the wrong colour, once it’s done I will post it but in the meantime you could email me if you want 32chant@gmail.com and I could explain a few options for you.
Actually I did a lot of asking around about that and not one professional recommended it, including the instructions that came with the door. There is zero chance of rot with just concrete, and opening the door only to have to step over 2'' of wood and sill plate would be annoying.
Wayne, I will have another videos which details the eyebrow on the backside of the garage coming soon. I am just waiting on some drip edge to come in before I can finish.
@@iveneverdonethisbefore8390 did you get any estimates on the job b4 taking it on yourself? Just wonder how much you saved. I would guess between 15-20K
I didn’t becAuse I’ve always wanted to build my own garage, and I knew I’d be too cheap to pay someone else anyways haha. But a friend who owns a residential construction company said he wouldn’t touch it for less than 100$/sqft which means approx 48,000$.
In the first video I posted that it was 21,500$CAD but I had forgotten about electrical, drywall and insulation. So I think all in, it's going to be about 24,000$. Crazy how it adds up, I thought I could get it done for 18k total but didn't happen. Just so man bloody materials, it was never ending.
