One Man Garage Build - Part 5
In this video the vinyl siding goes up, the vinyl window trim gets installed, the gable end eyebrows are framed, sheathed and shingled.

I was just thinking man for a DIY this guy is preety good. Cutting shingles on that table saw I changed my mind

Don't knock it till you try it, it was one of the best ideas I came up with for this project. Lightning fast, perfectly straight cuts, multiple shingles at a time. You keep making crooked single cuts with a utility knife, I'll do it this way.

Fun to see. I'm from Sweden and we frame as you do but our doors never opens inwards. On the roof we usually have tiles. We never use OSB on the outside. We have OSB on the inside before the plasterboard so when you need to put up something on the walls it's much easier. On the walls on the outside we have special plasterboards for outdoor use. Then we often put wood on our houses after the plasterboard. When we install the electrical wires we have tubes in the wall that we draw our lines in.

Awesome job and great video! My wife and I built our garage in summer 2019, 34' x 40' with 12' walls (by ourselves also). Really love it. At the time I wanted to add eyebrow roof like you did but didn't know how to go about it and my wife was reluctant because she didn't know how it would look. Fast forward to 2021 and after showing my wife a few garages with eyebrow roofs like yours, guess what, that's what she wants now, she says it will break up the look of the tall wall. At least the siding isn't on yet so it shouldn't be to bad except for the soffit and fascia that is already installed. Thanks!

Very nice work on the garage. In the future, lower the blade on your table saw to just above the thickness of what your cutting. I cringed when I saw that blade (with no guard on it) sticking that high out of the saw and your left hand that close. Gotta keep the digits attached to the hands. I will stick to hook blades for cutting shingles but aside from that great work.
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390 3 года назад
You're probably right but I haven't an accident in 20 years, however it only takes once I suppose. I just prefer to cut with the blade tall like that, always have.

I'm in a project like this ... Im not sure really with the spec ... how you finally go with a 20 x 24. I want to use mine for mechanic on my cars one car at a time, tool box and shelves to free up some place in the basement. I have a shed for lawnmower, snowblower and this tool. I really think I can work with a lift in these spec garage. Superb job and nice looking one

Amazing work! Watched all the videos and got to see a different way of doing it. Beautiful spot you've got there, made the videos even more enjoyable! Thanks for sharing your skill. I'm right in the midde of my shop build. I've had to wait for prices to stabilize a bit. 4x8 1/2 ply was 17$ at Home Hardware this May, by Oct it's over 38$..... I do have a question though, when you were framing your wall; were your headers not upside down? As in, the headers we up against the top plate and not against the opening, I've just never seen it done that way. Was wondering what the inspector had to say about it?
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390 3 года назад
Hey, good question but no, they are not upside down. It's just a different way of doing it....so long as the load above is transferred to the jack studs and down to the concrete/footings then it doesn't matter where the headers are really. The purpose of doing it this way is explained in Part 1 at about the 4 min mark. You must be in Canada, whereabouts? And yes, the price of building materials is ridiculous.

Great work, looks really sharp--especially the gable brow I'm looking to build a garage this summer. I've already done a rough budgeted out, though I'm not sure what my next best step would be. I saw you sub'd the concrete + garage door. As for everything else, did you purchase plans, work with a designer/architect, or something else? I've been scratching my head on where to get started.
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390 4 года назад
Because the garage was less than 576 sqft, my township didn't require any engineered drawings, I could have drawn the plans on a napkin according to the building inspector but I found a guy on the internet who did up plans for 50$. I sent him a quick sketch of what I wanted, gave him dimensions, specs and locations of windows/doors, etc and he sent back a package with all the different elevations, views, angles, framing, etc. For the price I was surprised with how many drawings he sent back to me. I can find a way to give you his contact privately info if you wish.

@@iveneverdonethisbefore8390 Home Hardware has garage packages and I asked the store in Fergus for a quote for a 2 car with a loft gambrel garage. In a week they hard a quote broken down in different sections (ground floor, loft floor, roof, doors and windows) and a free set of plans to submit to the county building department.
