Justin talks about the current sate of the one piece tcg now 3 sets and 3/4 of a year after release. Many new developments have risen up like red's dominance of the meta game, crazy new alt arts, and promos getting out of control.

Right now really the two worst offenders are the Promo Jinbei and the promo Bartolomeo but the strats that want those cards can work efficiently without them.

I'm glad you mentioned South America and the promo cards. I'm from Brazil and I'll get the starter set only next week! The game is starting here right now (almost a year after its release in North America or Europe)

Thanks for the insights. I found the franchise via the live action Netflix, then the card game at Target. I’ve played card games for quite some time and appreciate how you mentioned some decks may be better for a player transitioning from one to another. Thanks for the helpful references. I’ll be sure to dig in.

I really hope this game doesnt crumble in popularity due to Bandai being slow in fixing game breaking decisions; such as the obvious blunder of event exclusive cards (like just make these promos excusive art - not actual different effects). At the end of the day, I buy these cards for collecting, as I think they just look good. So even through the actual gameplay is not a big deal to me, its obvious that it is important, cuz if nobody is playing, the collectors is not enough to keep the tcg afloat

The promos are definitely killing hype for me, love playing seveb warlords and got lucky to hit two Jinbei but my green film deck is dead after bartolomeo went to the moon.

I've looked up decks topping tournaments in Asia, and there's an OP-04 green/purple Doflamingo FILM deck that placed 1st. That deck did not require the green FILM Bartolomeo. OP-04 releases in the States in late September.

Glad that you were fair in this video. I love this game and One Piece as a whole, but it is certainly not without its flaws. I am glad that Bandai seems to be aware of these issues, however.

Dragon Ball had the same issue with Secret Rares. Every deck regardless of power level really wants one, and even the cheapest secret rares were $30+. It really gatekeeps the experience for the majority of players. If there's a line of Starter Decks or something similar, I may check out One Piece TCG at some point. I usually stick to Starter Decks in card games because the price point is low and it's easy to make a battle box out of.

if you can get either the red or green starter decks they're both really solid points for playing the game on a budget. bandai has some other structure deck products coming out that are very strong so those also might be worth looking into.

I literally don't care about cards in the sets price tag because they kinda cap out. The promos make me really upset tho especially considering tournaments fill up instantly.

@@Aigis31there’s starter deck 10 coming out in a few months which features 3 different leaders that have different playstyles but all work well with the same deck. It gives you a lot of choice in how to approach the game and the cards are very competitive there are even reprints of competitive staples in this starter deck.

The promo issue in dragonball killed that game for me. Just as you said i wasn't able to get to events all of the time and the prices just became insane with decks consisting of many different promos.

About the promo cards...unless you are going to events, proxy them. Not defendind bandai at all, i think its a shitty move, but definitely try out the card before purchase

The way OP-04 looks, there may be more variety soon in the English format meta. Spoilers for ST-10 and OP-05 look really hype as well. And yet, the future isn't set in stone.

Even if you stalk the event sign up I literally refreshed the sign up for an online regional a minute after it opened to sign up and it was filled.

here in brazil we only dream with promos, one Jimbe is 90 dolars, for us is 500 reais, half minimum wage, its a good game but they need make this promo cards more acessible, put them in new ST, it will help a lot...

Thanks for your videos :) Beeing a new guy to that TCG I just bought the St-10 Set twice as I got told its not a bad start and a well made deck to begin with. Can you recommend where to go next? Buying a box is for fun, any recommendations? I guess looking for a deck and buying singles is the normal way to go otherwise.

Depending on what leader you want to play you could buy set 5. Every st10 leader has support in there. However I recomend just looking up a deck list and buying singles. It's much cheaper. I have a video on my channel going over captain kid and luffy. For law I recomend checking out one piece top decks.

What deck would you recommend to someone who wants to play competitive but not spend so much. I’m fascinated by rob lucci. I feel like that deck can only get better :) or do you have other recommendations

Rob Lucci is very cool but you might need a few secret rares depending on the build. I'd recommend whitebeard as the biggest bang for your buck. Other cool options are kinemon, kaido, and dolfi without the promo.

yeah it's pretty bad. Don't feel entirely priced out as you can still play the deck without it. Albiet it with a much worse red match up. Outside of that the deck is crazy cheap and is still very fun.

My locals moved the whole schedule one day down, so OPTCG fits my schedule better than Yu-gi-oh, so I'll probably get to playing it, and it's still way cheaper than Yu-gi-oh.

this game feels a lot like vanguard mixed with digimon. I feel like TCGs need to do a bit more to distinguish themselves from the other games. The art looks great though.

i played digimon and one piece. both in the same pattern where it’s going about. people wise it’s only like 25% more now only. digimon also had hard time getting into for tournament also.

You should find a local game store and ask around. Some stores have events for trying out the game.

Black is way too fair. You need to play cards to reduce cost, then play more cards to pop cards,then you gotta discard on top of that. At least they got Borsalino.

bandai handles their events super poorly. i play digimon and ygo too. ygo i could show up to a regional or something the day of. digimon i have to hope to get a ticket within the first 2 minutes they drop for an event months in advance (an online event too). Havent tried to get into op that much but it feels like theyre in the same boat or just a super casual play.

I agree about everything but the event promos. Yes it sucks they are so expensive and not easily accessible but they are not the end all of cards. the Jinbe and Bart are the best of the five but only work really in two decks and the other 3 are pretty generic effects that we got plenty of alternatives for. playing at locals, online, and at tournaments these cards are not really ever in the top decks, expect maybe Jinbe. Hopfully Bandai re releases these cards in future sets or as promo cards in booster boxes but for now i don't think the meta is really being affected by them.

Bandai has said they will not re release these promos. Second these decks fill green and seven warlords have almost exclusively topped after set 3 by using these promos. There really ismt a proper excuse for them. Even if not all the promos are meta relevant.

i think most of the issues u have are with tournament access in your area. i know tons of player from across the world that are not havin this issue. i do agree on the tournament pack cards its stuffed but over the course of time i have been able to get playsets of these cards.

I mean I've attempted to sign up for events across the u.s. with no luck. I also know friends from a wide variety of places who can't get into events. It's really just Japan where there are enough events.

yeah me and my group of 15 have been buyin tickets in the us like the day before tournament far across the us since op01 sometimes they sell out depends on the area. i know in Aus they able to get in without issues aswell. i know that alot of japan players go to aus aswell to relive the formats

Pokemon TCG isn't a rocky ride. You can play the online game for free and get a meta deck for free. And you can build the real life world's winning deck for just 30 bucks. Really makes me reconsider spending money on the One Piece tcg...

Yes but rotation, worse game mechanic, more limited player interactions, and scalping at times. Sure the game is affordable and prizing is good, but pokemon still does have issues

@@MonkeyFightTCG Rotation is good when tier 1 decks cost just 30€ anyway. And we shouldn't pretend that other games don't have an artificial rotation anyway by banning older decks into the ground (yugioh) or printing new overpowered decks that (MTG) that make older decks unplayable too. Limited player interaction is a good thing if I look at how exactly interacting with your opponent is considered a bad thing (negates in YUGIOH and counter spells in MTG). Scalping is only a problem for collectors and not players. Pokemon has some issues, but those pale in comparison to those of other cardgames.

@@sburbtube6766 Negates are a good thing as are other disruptions. When I play a tcg, I don't want the back and forth solitaire that pokemon often offers.

@@MonkeyFightTCG Hey that's fair and I like my fair share of negates as well, but it's a common complain. And as someone who plays yugioh tcg and mtg EDH I can tell you that the solitaire in Pokemon is nothing compared to those two games.
