You need to pull that ring gear carrier assembly out and through in you parts washer for a real good flush. Push all that crap out of your axle tubes to the center of the housing. Spend the extra time and money on brake clean or whatever solvent you like. Rework is not cheap!

If this dude put as much effort into cleaning the damn car as he does with tryna make it look sporty with all this fake carbon and amazon gadgets it would look a hell of alot better.

My 03 I replaced the bearings with repair bearings at 155k beginning of 2020, by 175k in June 2020 they were leaking again. Took it to a shop the second time to find out the metal shavings killed every bearing in the axle housing, looked so bad they didn't believe they were only 6 months old. I ended pulling a used low mile clean unit and had them completely overhaul it, all new everything. Now sitting at 239k and still running good, other than a failing driver side cat.

Yeah Jay I feel your pain. I'm dealing with diff issues on my 00 TC. Diff had been quiet for over 2 years when I put the eaton trutrac in. All of a sudden I'm getting a rumble out of the rear particularly when making a wide sweeping left hand turn and giving it just a little throttle to compensate for loss of momentum going around the turn. Thought for sure it was the axles ordered new bearings, seals and ordered new axles new axles look like shit compared to the the oem's. I have the 28 spline diff when I pulled the oem axle's out really was no real wear to them tho the left axle has just a slight hint of a couple poc marks. Put the new ones in any way and button it up still got the same issue. Round two pull cover again pull diff and pinion out bearings looked good on pinion but carrier bearings looked like the races were wearing press all new bearings on and put it back together same shit. I have theorized that I may have a light pre load on the carrier bearings and when making the a left sweeping turn the driver side axle is trying to pull out while the PS is pushing in and causing the diff to walk away from the pinon gear a bit and hence the rumble as they are not meshing well. Didn't have this problem till started spraying the motor thing is putting out some crazy torque like 570 ftlbs so wondering if the 8.8 is not up to it. So I feel your pain and forget oem axles I found like the last two in the us for mine @ $450 a side no thanks. Good luck with yours.

Sorry to hear your going through diff troubles. If this set doesn’t last I think I’m going to find another rear end.

As an owner of half a dozen Panthers I can say this much... I bought my 95 Town Car with 200k miles on it, and as far as I'm aware, original axles and bearings. I put another 300k on the clock and never had an issue with the seals, bearings, or axles. My first 05 TC went through bearings and axles 3 times, including swapping the whole rear end the second time around, over 150k miles. My 03 GM after that went through a set of bearings after about 50k Miles after I bought it. The next 05 TC I bought made it 25k miles past the 170 when I bought it and sheared the axle shaft right off the hub, had to have a rear end put in it because I was in BFE with no tools or anything to do the work. My latest 06 TC is sitting on jack stands right now with disintegrated bearings and a bent axle and tube from the heat after the bearing went out, and caught the speed sensor on fire while an employee was borrowing the car. Still trying to locate a replacement rear end that isn't priced absurdly. I'm not sure just how common these problems are, I suspect it's more common for folks that put on a lot of highway miles, but it seems like there's a flaw in the design of the wider axle on the 03+ panthers. I love them, but I'm pretty tired of axle issues by now.

Did you regularly change the diff oil?
@kevinb4783

I have a similar issue on my ford crown victoria 2006. rear diff was "rebuilt" by my regular mechanic, who didn't have much experience doing that, by his admission. about a year later right side axle started leaking and growling, a year after that, maybe 10k miles, again same axle needed work, growling, a year after that another 10k other side, and now again, another 10k or so one of the sides is growling again, and i need to find a new mechanic :). I like your debris theory, hopefully it was resolved for you, because I definitely get the annoyed with recurring expensive problem thing.

the bearing go bad because of the housing the bearing doesn't get lube oil only when u turn corner, if you put the new bearing in feel on the inside of the bearing the ridge of the bearing housing sit to high oil don't soak the bearing put a little more fluid in it that is what i found with these

Good job guys, but you dont even know half of what I know. When you pulled out that left axle and stated it looked machined the way it was worn down, it actually was machined too far down or a smaller circumference at the factory, because if it had worn down to that point there is no way the roller bearing in the tube could look good as it did. That car was sold new with that up and down end axle play, but it got away with it because the weight of the car caused the axle end to push upward into the smooth machine turned on the axle and ride on the upper area of the roller bearing, and even though it wallered out ruined the seal, it stopped leaking once the axle tube was empty of oil and a quart or so remained in the third member which splashed oil on the pinion and ring gear. Legend of the story, the factory of the company that turned and built that axle was given the wrong blue print, by some idiot and there is probably many other crown vic and marquis and lincoln town cars out there in the thousands running the wrong axle. Anyone wants to argue this, READ it again and understand everything I said here

So I’m having issues again with my 2003 town car it hasn’t even been a year since I’ve had the whole rear end replaced and here i am again this will be number 3 of replacing the wheel bearings i had a shop do the work each time and i am now wondering if they removed all the metal silvers like you showed in your video. Can you order a whole new rear end or should i just replace the bearings and axle again. This is really getting old and expensive but I love my town car so thanks for a great video

If you replace axles and bearings clean everything really good inside … then drain it again after running it for a few weeks and see what else comes out
@freddyhollingsworth5945

you have to get 100000000% of all the metal shavings out or the new bearings and shaft will fail in 10,000-20,000 miles... Also used OEM shafts are far superior than new aftermarket, go to the junk yard and get shafts out of 60,000 mile cars all day long for $43
@CobraR1993
@CobraR1993 3 месяца назад
I don't believe so. Aftermarket axles are harder then OEM. OEM in this case is the cheapest vendor and early OEM 8.8 axles were known to be too soft that lead to failures.

Naive piece of advice: maybe stop modifying the poor car so much and leave it stock..? I'm sure that will cure your problems.
