ONE YEAR OF EXTREME DECLUTTERING/ Where my house was then vs now/ House Tour and progress ❤️

So dang happy that I found you when you started this channel. It has been wonderful for me to see you find yourself amongst the clutter. Your honesty is so uplifting. Congratulations 🎉 the house looks great and I'm sure your grandmother is smiling down on you.

One year went by so fast for me too! Through my grief of losing my husband. One year ago today....l decided to start a massive decluttering too. It’s been so very hard. I’m still at it. Trying not to lose heart. Just FYI, l got high school boys to help me out. They got some community service time and l pay them some cash. Huge help! We’re finishing up the semi trailer today. Plus the storage unit is about half done. 50 years of life. So hard but l made myself be brutal about it. Now they will help me get it to all to the organizations. I had so many good things. I’m going to downsize completely minimizing my life. We were about to finish up our house we built but now l am unable to do that. So l am thinking do l just live with it unfinished or sell. Such a tough decision. So good for you! Boy do l understand the journey. I hope to love my home again. I had 5 grandkids and now they’re grown and left with so much stuff to downsize. I’m going to dedicate one bedroom to my crafting area. Which was my husbands office. That’s hard but in time l think it will work. Your home is lovely ❤👍🏼👏🏼TFS l needed the encouragement especially today.

This is so inspiring! ❤ You are so right, consistency is the key - slow and steady wins the race. I feel like I missed the excitement when we moved our family of 4 into our home in 2012, because my father passed away during our move. Then my health went sharply downhill, and I ended up having to retire early for medical reasons. "Losing" my career was a big hit for me, as well as being hospitalized so frequently. It feels like several years are a black spot in my memory, and one day I looked around and thought - I really need to work on this house. 10 minutes a day for a few years made a huge difference! Although in the beginning we painted the entire inside, replaced the carpeting, etc., I was never able to fully decorate, or declutter the stuff that just didn't "work" in this home. Plus teenagers and their childhood things not being decluttered, and anything that was acquired for me was just piled in the bedroom. Of course, my health wasn't up for deep cleaning either. What a mess. We also lost my mother, and my father-in-law, which resulted in acquiring some of their belongings. Things needed to find a home. I was able to step it into high gear this past year, yay!!! Deep cleaning and decluttering at a faster pace, with your videos inspiring me! 😀 So thank you for helping me to get this done. Life feels lighter.

Thank you SOOOOO much for sharing your journey. I have been a mess for the past 5 years as I got a divorce that I didn't want (broke up in 2017, divorced in 2018) and my getting cancer in 2020. I am slowly getting my life together and today was a GOOD day of decluttering. I'm not there yet but I am on my way. 20 minute tasks DO add up.

Thank you Jodi for giving me hope. Our house is so cluttered that we haven’t been able to entertain our family for several years. Our grandkids use to be here all the time, they were here in my daycare, and several of them lived with us, and two still do (we adopted three of our 12 grandkids in 2014). I’m just beginning to feel well enough to tackle getting rid of the clutter, after having Covid twice. My goal is to get the first floor done by Thanksgiving, and the upstairs bedrooms done by Christmas. I have started a ’no spend’ October, so I won’t add anything else to the house until we purge the clutter. Getting so much free items couponing (I’ve been using coupons for well over 40 years) my stockpile is a mess. I have begun listing it on Facebook marketplace as well as making donations to several different organizations, which makes me feel very good. Jodi you are such a blessing to so many people, and I just wanted to say thank you for being so transparent with us! You are helping so many people!

We moved into our house when it was brand new 20 years ago this month. My husband built a lot of it and it is 5 bedroom and 3 bath. Problem is that we still don't have doors on the bathroom cabinets and part of a build in in our master bedroom. We had 3 more kid in the first 5 years we lived here and life just happened. Even with all that was not finished I adored my new house. Just in the last couple years I have started to be unhappy with it. It needs new paint and floors now. I have started like you to declutter. I know that the clutter has to go first. My husband is a bit of a hoarder and I know that will be a challenge but I am just going to focus on my stuff and the kids stuff first and go from there. Thanks for showing me what can happen over time! We just paid the house off this summer and so we have started saving what used to go for house payment for taxes and house stuff. We used to use our income tax refund for the house taxes and so that will be a chunk that we can now use for house also. So, I think we will see some changes soon! 15 minutes a day have been making a difference already!

Love your videos but most of all I LOVE that you are REAL 💯,you don't stage. I like that you make it clear when talking about....."This is my personal preference". Friendly Suggestion: In the back basement where its getting cluttered again..... Use the small night stand on top of one another for organizing. That's where I am!!! My house feels so cluddered that it feels hopeless!!! I have no idea where to start, and how to get a easy to do system that will really work for us. I can't get any of my family members to go through their own stuff and downsize. Personally for me, I hold on to stuff for emotional reasons, then get mad at myself for not being able to let go. I wish I had half of your enthusiasm and ambition. Oh well, one day at a time, one room at a time. Soon I'll get started, and there'll be no stopping me!!! And one day I too will Love my house again.

Thank you for sharing.this decluttering journey. It is nice to see that I'm not the only one who's going through this. You showed us that it can be done.

What moves me the most from the look back is the sense of items of great sentimental value being given their place, being cared for and showcased. It reminds me of one of my favourite childhood books -The Secret Garden - where the children push back the grass and weeds from around sprouting flowers to give them space to find their light in the sun. I think that's what decluttering does - while I love the cleaning up and order that comes from the act - it's the chance to decide what is important for you - that is the most valuable gift from the process. I felt that most in your dining room - because it was a storage room before and now with your beautiful pieces of furniture unearthed and your family photos (yes you grandmother does look like Barbara Stiesand!) the room feels purposeful and put together with care and love 😊

Jodi my home is so unorganized because we are remodeling from a flood that happened downstairs from the washing machine malfunctioning. Plus I am a Dumpster Diver & a Reseller & it is so overwhelming to go through all of this stuff . You are so right it makes you so stressful & the anxiety that comes along with it , I am trying to get these things out of here but when your daily task from cleaning, cooking & washing clothes, folding them & putting them away so where do we have the time 🤷🏼‍♀️. I am planning on having a yard sale I hope . But things look Amazing & you did a Wonderful job . And yes real people live in my home & plus I keep the Grandkids too , so just say a Prayer for me 🙏🏻❤️🤗

Thank you Jodi, I’m disabled and it’s difficult for me to get around even with my house, but…we need to declutter especially the garage. We now have a old dryer to get rid of. I can only do so.,much since I have a pinched nerve in my lower back. I too. Kinda don’t like my house anymore. But..I’m ready with my husband and grown son to help to go through things is declutter. I too, get emotional as I grow up poor. So…to have something nice and have to part with it, is truly a bummer. But..we’re older and I need to work hard to change my ways, to get rid or sell before others have to do it. So..thank you. Hugs to you. Your living room with the open shelves really looks nice now. This is my first time seeing one of your video's and I am already planning on seeing more. My house is cluttered too. I am already decluttering for at least 10 years, but I also have ADD, so it's an ongoing battle... But ok, family life does also happen and a family with kids always gets new "clutter" in. Trying to keep the ingoing en outgoing balanced is my solution. There are months where this works better than other. Last year November my stepdaughter came to stay with us and brought some things along. Three months later we changed her adress to ours because her mom died. (Mom was sick.) Then we got even more of her belongings in our house and we are still getting everything in the right places. (We had to change some furniture in the bedrooms to make sure the kids all had beds and "playing" space.) Let just say that it keeps me busy every day...

Very true, decluttering can be emotionally taxing! I've started about two weeks ago in the basement where a mass amount of old clothes, paper, toys, moulding (no heat in the basement here, so anything that sits there longer than a few months gets mouldy) and broken stuff resided and much still resides and have worked my way up to our actual apartment. Room by room, closet by closet.. UGH! I cried a couple times and on other occasions yelled "ARGH! I'm done with this mess!! " and made lots of unintelligible noises going throughout te process.. Our two bedroom apartment where I live with just me, my daughter and 3 cats, is much smaller than your house and since my kid is an adult now and I'm out of a job right now, I have a lot of time for it. Now at age 40- something, I am determined to turn this ship around. I too had a lot of anxiety and have gone through mental health issues few years ago. Right now, to just walk in my house already feels like I can breath more easily, like there's literally room to breath! Room to think! But most importantly: room to sit peacefully 🌄 You have done an amazing job. Love your honesty and love how you keep saying "don't strive for perfection, strive for progress". Jodi, Thank you for sharing this video. I have watch every one, knowing in about a year I would be moving into a new home. We have been working on getting this home ready and cleared out for the new owners, you are one who inspired me to keep motivated not stop till it is finished. We cleared so…. much stuff out, had two yard sales. We have a poultry business and I had this house decorated in Chickens! Today we were working at new home and every wall is painted they are starting lay floors in the coming week. And I could go on and on. But too say I am so excited 🎉😂. Your home looks so beautiful and comfortable, and like a place a family would feel so much peace! I'm in the [very slow] process of decluttering my house too, and this is very inspiring. I don't feel comfortable or proud of my home, and dread the thought of people stopping over, unannounced or planned. Cleaning feels impossible because there is stuff everywhere with no easy place to put it away. I dream of easy tidying and cleaning, and a lovely space that I'm proud of. I want a home where a friend can knock on the door unannounced and I can just happily invite them in without embarrassment.

Brand new to your channel! I’ve been decluttering since March 2021 we have finally gotten our basement 100% done and we did cluttered around 90% of it now it’s down to just our deep freezers our pantry shelves our storage totes that go on our specialized rack or washer and dryer and a few folding tables it is so much better with decluttering our upper house two times one more time to go through and we are completely done makes cleanup such a breeze

So imagine putting all the clutter in that space. So if you can do it, then I can too. And I need it completed in less than 5wks. I just came across this video and this is the first time ever seeing a video of yours. All I can say is WOWZA!!! Your home is gorgeous. You did an amazing job, and I totally understand what you meant by progress is progress. Little by little. I bought my home in summer of 2019, right before the market went on this ridiculous jump and I am so thankful for my tiny little house, but I went in with the attitude of it didn't fit it didn't stick... fast forward to 3 years later, I'm still working on stuff because I now work from home and the overwhelming feeling of being here 24-7 is the most anxiety ridden feeling I've ever had. I've been able to narrow everything down to the last room and closet. But now it's time to paint again... here we go again!!! Thank you for sharing your journey and giving me the kick in the pants I needed to get moving again!!

The transformation is beautiful! Thank you for taking all of us along for the journey. Decluttering really is a never ending process. I feel that is one of those things that I am always doing besides dishes and laundry. You have done a fabulous job and I can't wait to see what comes next.

You should refinish that bookshelf that is in your basement and put it in your foyer on the wall next to your door and use as a console table. You can use pretty baskets on the shelves and maybe put a cute little lamp on it with some pictures.

Hi Jodi from another fellow Jodi with an “I” lol. This video was suggested to me as I’m trying to declutter my 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house with 2 kids, an attic and no basement. We do have three sheds thanks to this being the house I grew up in and my dad just adding sheds instead of making a garage. So no garage, no basement, but 3 sheds. Now you’re caught up lol. I totally understand why this took you a year to do because I’ve decluttered the same room a few times now because, let’s say, I don’t have a partner who has the same expectations of a home as I do. But this is the last time and he’ll just have to put in the work when he orders things as gifts for Christmas now or items to sell (which takes him 6-12 months to do). But I am no longer living in clutter!!! My 7 year old son says our house is too small, but that’s what he hears his dad say. I correct him in saying that we HAVE TOO MUCH STUFF; we have plenty of room. I wish we had a basement and not a crawl space but I grew up in this house. Now we only have one more person in the house, not 2 or 3 or 10, so we have plenty of room. Our attic is cleaned out from all of my parents’ stuff, so we have the room inside the house. How do you get your partner on board?? Are you just lucky enough to have someone who doesn’t work all the time and wants to please you?!? Because as soon as I clean out a closet, it’s filled up again and it’s discouraging. One of our three sheds is full of my crafting supplies that I don’t even have space on the house to use. We do have what was my “toy room” which I hope to grab a corner of to make a crafting area. I can’t wait to watch your playlist on this because I need all the tips and tricks and hacks to make these rooms livable or manageable. I am lucky to have my mom to help me after I’m done work who has a charity that will come to her house weekly if requested. The major thing I’m proud of is that I dwindled down our pajamas from just shirts and shorts to actual sets that were reasonable on amazon. I’m sorry this is so long but it’s my first time here and we have the same name so I just feel like your video popped up for a reason for me ❤️
