Hey! I've taught English in South Korea for 2 years and it's riddled with shady English Academies. It's recommended to speak to the teacher you're replacing when you receive your job offer. Also a lot of research has to be done about the school you're signing with and *pray* it's not bad. Is it similar in Vietnam? Any names to watch out for and avoid? How do you find a good English Academy in Vietnam? Thanks!

The work permit is usually for as long as your contact, and you renew it when it expires.

I’d say from May - August would be the best time cos that’s usually the end of the school/beginning of new school year and schools would be looking for new teachers around that time. As per pay, I think you get paid only the months you work.

If you have a teaching and tutoring experience, you are qualified to teach in Asia. Only the UAE would require a teaching degree, teaching certificate from the state and two years of teaching experience.

Please help me understand the agent concept. Does it mean an agent can place you at a school and the job is 100% yours or do you still have to follow standard procedure, interviews etc.?

Yea you still have to go through the standard application procedure, interview and all, and agent just helps connect you to a school basically

Hey sis. Please kindly respond when you see this. Did you use a C1 certificate to get a job in Vietnam because one company I applied to send me a mail that they are impressed with my demo teaching and intro video and I was asked to fill a form for after which I got another mail saying I would need a C1 certificate to process work permit in Vietnam 😢. Do all companies need this C1 certificate

I get the summer of, 2 months of summer holiday, and I also get all the Vietnamese national holidays.

A university degree is not the only way, 5 years teaching experience will also get you a work visa.

Do they require proof of funds? When is your salary paid from the first month you worked?

You get your salary the next month. Most schools pay on the 10th of every month.

If you get a job you visa won’t take more that 1 month to be ready, as per agent, I dunno if any, I didn’t use any agents.
