Onewe do have a “space series” of songs, and it was actually started by their guitarist Kanghyun with Regulus! He’s a big space nerd (I love him so much) and the members have also contributed to the series with their own songs. The first three you listened to were all Kanghyun’s songs! A little bit of info/context on each of the songs you listened to here: Aurora - b-side created by Kanghyun because he realized that Onewe didn’t really have any “shouting(?)” songs. Parting - you got the gist of it! Kanghyun created this bcs of his recurring dream of an asteroid hitting earth and wrote the lyrics based on what he would want to say to his loved ones before it strikes. Regulus - Kanghyun was inspired by the story of The Little Prince, thus the many flower and space references! Montage_ - This is the bassist CyA’s song (his name is pronounced key-ah)! A b-side written after being inspired by having a really good dream, but not being able to remember the contents of the dream after waking up, so the lyrics talk about “finding the you who I lost in my dreams.” Thank you for checking out Onewe again! Guitarist Kanghyun started playing around 6th grade (~12yrs old). He's 24 years old now (98liner), so he's been playing guitar half his life! His guitar is like another limb to him and even in the military now _(he promised to enlist together with their eldest Yonghoon (94liner main vocal) so they can reunite quickly by the start of 2024)_ he's still practicing guitar most days, whenever he gets free time, to sharpen his skills and improve even more and they're still writing songs too. Fun fact: for Montage guitar solo, right before they released it Kanghyun said it was challenging as it was his tightest solo, then just a few weeks later was saying it was too easy and he should have made it harder, and then after that played it blindfolded 😂 -> Kanghyun is the main writer and composer for the first 3 songs AuRoRa, Parting and Regulus _(yes, they do have a space series with connecting motifs, it all started because Kanghyun is obsessed with space!)_ -> Maknae rapper/bassist CyA (pronounced key-ah; aka Giuk) is the main writer/composer for the last song Montage (he's been writing their songs since he was just 15!) -> and main vocal Yonghoon is the main writer/composer for Gravity and Still Here Those are their 3 main songwriters, but both the drummer Harin and pianist Dongmyeong have also written songs too. ONEWE re-debuted because the 5 of them self-formed the band and they didn't have an agency the first time they debuted (they were just managed by their school). The agency that they got signed to changed their name and debuted them again. Btw their formation story and the journey they went on together to get to where they are is really precious, the members call their meeting fate. Literally, school kids and neighbours formed a band in middle school and at only 15-17yrs old asked a college student in his 20's, who they just met at a singing comp (which ofc he won), to be their main vocal with a cup of coffee. He was already busking with them a week later and ended up leaving his dream university, which took him 3 tries to get into, for these kids. Thank you so so much for reacting to ONEWE!
do we know if/when harin is going to enlist? i thought the plan was for him to enlist with kanghyun and yonghoon in 22 but he's still not enlisted, is he?
@Saarni He's not enlisted and no we don't know if/when, but everything they've said indicates he most likely won't be enlisting any time soon (probably 2026 if he does enlist). They've said they will be very active together as ONEWE when Yonghoon and Kanghyun get back at the beginning of 2024, and that they have a lot of plans including saying a few times recently that they plan on doing a 2024 world tour (hopefully, all going well). ONEWE were never the ones to tell us those expected enlistment years themselves; it was found in a report RBW had to publish when they went public back in 2021 (expected years of enlistment: 2022: Yonghoon, Kanghyun and Harin; 2028: Dongmyeong and CyA). Yonghoon and Kanghyun told us about their enlistments personally through individual vlives, announcing it themselves before the company's official announcements to make it easier on weves and explain their reasons and plans. They didn't mention Harin enlisting in any of their plans and weves never asked them directly about it because it could be very personal; if they were comfortable discussing it then Harin/ONEWE would tell us on their own when they were ready. Kanghyun said he always planned to enlist with Yonghoon to come back together quickly and then keep the band active for many years, for the future of ONEWE. CyA said Yonghoon and Kanghyun will write many good songs to keep the band active when the maknaes enlist (afaik he only specifically mentioned himself/Dongmyeong). CyA said he'll be enlisting in 4 years but we're not certain if he meant 2026 or if he actually meant 4 years after the hyungs get back in 2024 (=2028). But many weves are guessing Harin, Dongmyeong and CyA may enlist together around 2026 now instead. This can explain why Kanghyun went with Yonghoon, even if Harin didn't, since they are 2/3 of their main songwriters and they've already pre-recorded so much OT5 content for their enlistment now (+ it looks like CyA is preparing to release a solo album soon too), so having them both finished enlistment quickly makes their options a lot better in the future when those next enlistments come up. In the meantime this year, CyA (and Dongmyeong/Harin + Kanghyun/Yonghoon in free time) is also writing songs for ONEWE, to be finished off once they get discharged. What we do know (although possibly unrelated) is that leading up to Yonghoon/Kanghyun's enlistment, Harin had some health issue that meant he was absent from their vlive on Roommate's release day in May (and in one photo of a group outing they shared recently) and that he was also absent in the audience for a bit of filming of the GSI survival show one day in June but still performed that day for round 2 (unexplained absence since ONEWE couldn't talk about the show then). However, we don't know if it was a minor or more serious issue and whether it was an ongoing issue or just due to them being overworked with the GSI survival + concerts/festivals + all of these enlistment albums and contents they were preparing all at the same time. For the vlive he missed in May, the members said he was ok but just needed rest because they weren't able to after their encore concert. We later found out GSI round 1 was filmed the day after their encore concert (CyA was also performing playing bass with a burst blister for both, he couldn't use one finger properly at all for GSI). Most weves came to the conclusion that Harin probably wasn't enlisting 2022-2023 with Yonghoon and Kanghyun during their final goodbye concert since he hadn't announced anything and, when they were reading letters to each other on stage, Dongmyeong was crying asking who would take care of him while they were away and Harin raised his hand to show he would be there for him/00z (so potentially, if not for health/other reasons, it could also be that they simply weren't ready to leave their maknaes on their own, and 00z and Harin needed each other, because the separation has been very hard on all of them). or maybe it was never in ONEWE's own plan for him to go then but RBW put it in the report anyway, we don't know 🤷
Okay im back after watching the whole video! I love watching people react to Onewe for the first time. They are so underrated its crazy. Their music and lyrics are so beautiful. Also Montage is one of my favorite songs by them- I feel like it showcases everyone so well and they each have their own little moment to shine in it. Plus who doesn’t love an epic rock song. Excited for the remaining parts 🥰 Now is a good time to get into them since two members are currently in the military.

What's really cool about ONEWE as well is that they are self-formed! Kanghyun (guitar) used to be the leader when they were a 4-member group doing gigs in their school years and then they met Yonghoon (lead vocal) at a singing contest that they were the session band for and invited him to join their group right after he won it (he's also older than all of them so just imagining that interaction is very cute) Anyway they released music under the name MAS 0094 which stands for (Make A Sound) in 2015 and were later signed to their current label RBW as a full unit and rebranded as ONEWE with a redebut in 2019 Just thought their story is interesting since there aren't that many self-formed groups under these labels
Fun fact to add to the story, Mamamoo was the invited artist/judge for the contest Yonghoon won and MAS was the session band. Mamamoo were the ones giving him the award/prize money.
I'll be very honest, Onewe is in my book the most underrated group out there, at the very least one of the notable ones. Their music is beautiful, emotional, and yet somehow exciting at the same time. From their ability with the instruments to their vocals, by far one of my favorite groups to listen to So happy you're listening to them Caitlin!!!!
I got into Onewe shortly after I had deep dived into kpop ((around 2 1/2 years now)) and AuRoRa has been one of my all time favorite songs since. I truly deeply love them and their music, it’s healed me in ways I didn’t think were possible. ❤️❤️❤️
You will absolutely love their whole discography you will enjoy them sm ! Fun fact they are a self made group so basically they are like a group of friends that decided to became a band and the story about them coming together so funnyy you should watch a documentary for them and they are also a self produced band and the first 3 songs was made by Kanghyun the guitarist his song’s mainly have space themed lyricism! First I want to say I’m glad you did it this way. Doing the Korean version and mv it shows the songs in a light that they should be seen first. And when you do listen to the English versions it just adds to it. That’s basically what I was trying to say on Patreon. I originally got into ONEWE because they have a song with Hwasa and I really enjoyed it. Little did I know how much I would come to love their music. ONEWE are true musicians and songwriters and you can tell that they take their music seriously. Weve(that's ONEWE's fandom name!) are one of the most spoiled fandoms because there is a mountain of content aside from official releases and there is something for everyone. I really like their acoustic versions of their songs and their covers of girl group songs. 🥰 Honestly, ONEWE isn't more popular because a) RBW doesn't know how to market them and b) they make the music they want to make rather than what the company tells them to. As an aside, Harin really is a great percussionist. He slays on real and digital drums but also uses any other percussion that is called for well. It's easier to see in the acoustic videos where he doesn't have a full kit or is completely without a kit.

i really love ONEWE's music!! they're just super consistent and they have very satisfying vocals, rap, guitar riffs, drum, etc. The biggest thing for me is that every part is just SUPER SATISFYING on the ears!! Literally gives me eargasms

I thank my music switching from Key to Onewe randomly one day because damn I fell in love hard 😂 Yonghoon’s voice (which sounds the same live 🫠) just slapped me in the face first and said stan onewe then I saw his personality and there was no hope for me 💀. I love their lyrics so much they’re so pretty and anything space related is 👌🏻👌🏻 They have a series of videos on their channel showing them creating the music in their (tiny!) studio- it’s cool to get that viewpoint/breakdown ☺️ Onewe and Oneus were on the show We Will Debut and have done joint mvs and content together 😊 and yess twins! xion would follow dongmyeong and help out in their mas 0094 days 😅 They’re not on the album but Universe_ and A Book in Memory I recommend. It may seem like it’s always sad boy hours with their music but they’re the complete opposite irl😅 so I’d recommend Veronica mv for a vibe change~ And thank you for doing all these reactions! Yes! Onewe appreciation time! It's interesting to see their discography laid out like this, one after the other and not in order of release, because it just made me realise how much they have improved. Aurora and Montage_ are newer releases (both b sides 🤯) while Regulus is one of their first songs as Onewe and Parting was released in between these. Regulus holds a special place in my heart as it was the first Onewe song that I came across and I looooved Parting when it was released (I still do), but they've since matured so much and started to truly flourish. Looking forward to part 2!

OMG, I got so HAPPY when realized you'd check the korean versions!!! Your reaction reminded me of my own reaction when I listened to them for the first time. I knew what was coming, but I got excited along with you. I agree with your comments about the melodies and the songwriting, also the distinct feel we get from Cya, Yonghoon and Dongmeyong's voices. I think that is what makes Onewe's music so interesting and soulful even though they switch genres or mix different styles in one song. Thank you for posting on YT.
Just so you know in my top 5 songs of each year there was a Onewe song. 2020 was Parting, 2021 was AuRoRa and 2022 was Montage. I love lots of Kpop/bands but Yonghoon has become an ult bias for me with that heavenly voice. The English versions have taken a bit to get used to because of how many (hundreds) times I have listened to the original versions, but I am glad that they continue to try new things. I wish I found them sooner than 2020. They deserve all the love in my book so thank you, thank you, thank you for checking them out!!!

I loved Gravity and Aurora but I never really dove into Onewe. But after watching these videos with you made me realize I've been sleeping one them for too long. Hwasa of Mamamoo - Star - Universe_ - Hippie (Freedom from MM) - there's a live performance video for this where they absolutely killed it!!! Adding "A book in Memory" bc even tho it's a slow song, the vocals could warm the coldest heart on earth.
