A bit of the backstory to the lyrics- there’s an inside joke among the fandom (WEVE) that it always rains during Onewe schedules. They’ve picked up the moniker “boys who bring the rain” and in some way, the song is about meeting their fans in the rain. Many of their songs are written so that there can be multiple interpretations though and I enjoyed your thoughts on the song! There are two more songs on this album with performance-style music videos. The songs, Aurora and Veronica, have quite different vibes and give a fun look into the range of Onewe. Aurora is a fan-favorite, and a big stan attractor among new listeners. Montage_ from the next album is another good suggestion for a more intense rock song. I still love the song, but I agree the song sounds a little thin. This folkier sound is a slight departure from their usual soft rock sound. They have some slightly harder rock or more experimental songs too! I like to recommend their album Planet Nine: Voyager, because each song on the album was primarily written by a different member. It’s a nice little insight to their different styles You mentioned wanting to hear an acoustic set- they do acoustic versions for a lot of their songs. They’re nice to check out after seeing the original version. Thanks for checking out Onewe! I love their music and I’m always excited to see new people get into them ❤️

Hey guys, thank you so much for reacting to Onewe and enjoying them. Such an underrated band. From a fellow metalhead that discovered kpop 10 years ago (im that old!) Onewe became a favourite. They are however more of a soft rock/pop band so dont expect anything much heavier than this song, but I hope that doesn't put you off as they are exceptionally talented. I recommend the songs Gravity, Montage, Aurora, Parting and Star. Onewe have also done some great covers. Would love to see you guys do a cover of this, they have an english version, female vocals would be amazing on this song! Sorry for long comment. Love your reactions!

Weird thing to like, but it's somehow just so nice to see two people who have the presence of mind to realize that there's no way they used real/nice instruments for that MV. As you guessed, they picked up a bunch of stuff that was already broken, though this was also considered the official retirement of Dongmyeong's white keytar as it had reached the end of its life. Some of my ONEWE favorites are "COSMOS" and "A Book in Memory", which are more ballad-style tracks so I'm not sure if they'd be up your alley. I see y'all have reacted to "Aurora" but I'd also recommend "Montage_". They also have some of the best covers of girl-group songs, particularly Mamamoo's "Hip", "Twit", or GIDLE's "Latata". For harmonies between Yonghoon and Dongmyeong, I would recommend the Super K-Pop performance of "COSMOS". (Actually all of the Super K-Pop Performances from 2 years ago, including the one for "Rain to Be", were fantastic) There's also pieces of "Reminisce About All", (especially the 3rd anniversary version)...maybe the "STAR" acoustic clip as well? I know it has some, as does "IF" (You'd want to look up the Day6 Radio version). (A, "Reminisce About All", the SONG that brings the rain, lol. Yonghoon usually cries when they perform it and the time he didn't - he was VERY proud of himself - he turned around to see Dongmyeong crying instead. He was like "I MADE IT---DONGMYEONG IT WAS YOU THIS TIME?!" The only one who hasn't cried is Kanghyun.)

This reminded me of a Sci Fi story I read years and years ago (like in the mid seventies) which takes place in the 1960’s where the wanton and indefensible murder of the partner of one of the first aliens to contact earth caused its partners to create rain for forty days and forty nights throughout the entire world, creating catastrophic damage. This action against every political and humanitarian belief held by these aliens, which damaged the alien as much as it’s actions destroyed our world. I believe that the author was Theodore Sturgeon.

Lmao their label certainly isnt rich or at least not for them. The instruments are all broken ones! But they do search for those similar to the ones they usually use. The shoulder keyboard / keytar was his own tho 😅 a broken one Yeah, onewe is more alternative pop rock, not sure if you're gonna like their other songs, but maybe AuRoRa or Montage_? I enjoyed your reactions! I like your interpretation and analysis too! Thank you ^^

So excited to see this reaction to ONEWE! They create really beautiful pieces. I would love to see you check out their songs Montage_, Universe_, and Parting as well! I agree, both vocalists have amazing voices that complement each other very well! I'm not sure that I'd say their concert version of Rain To Be is harder, necessarily, but I do enjoy it even more than the MV version! I don't know enough about music to pinpoint what aspects they changed, though. You mentioned wanting to hear examples that highlighted the two vocalists working together-their song Star has some beautiful harmonies, and their b-side From_ is very stripped back and highlights the vocals, imo.

Great reaction and excellent comments. I like Rain to Be a lot but it's not my favorite Onewe song. I agree that a heavier mix with more low end and thicker guitar would bump up the impact. Onewe is under Mamamoo's label RBW, which is a mid-sized company at this point. The gear in the MV was all broken stuff so I don't think the budget was very high, esp for a kpop video. Drummer Harin is a workout fiend and I'm sure he took playing under water as a new form of resistance training lol. Guitarist Kanghyun's main axe these days is a Sterling Majesty, one of their John Petrucci models, and he also plays a white strat, an ES-335 and a Gibson acoustic that I'm pretty sure is a J-45. Bassist/rapper Giuk (formerly aka Cya) plays a Bacchus 5 string and a Nash 60's P-bass copy that he calls bumblebee cuz it's yellow with a black pickguard. You'll also see him with a different 5 string in earlier MVs that he sold to get the Nash about a year ago. Keyboardist/singer Dongmyeong plays piano and a variety of keys and often uses a keytar live. The final member is main singer and sometime guitarist Yonghoon. Imo Yonghoon is the best male singer of kpop's current generation. Yonghoon and Kanghyun are currently serving in the military so it will be a while before we get new music from the full band. After their enlistment RBW released an English language album by Onewe featuring the new title track Gravity and English versions of some of their older songs but frankly I prefer the original Korean versions. Bassist/rapper Giuk is a prolific songwriter and hip hop producer and he recently released a solo album called Psycho Zybernetics: Turn Over. Onewe first came to my attention when they were the backup band for Mamamoo's rock version of Decalcomanie at the 2016 KBS Song Festival. RBW has been marketing Onewe as an idol band but at that time Onewe was an indie rock band and were called MAS or MAS0094. They later signed with RBW and debuted under the new name in 2019 with a ballad called Reminisce About All. All members contribute to the songwriting and their tastes naturally vary so Onewe's discography is quite diverse for a rock band. They excel at power ballads and I'd recommend their gorgeous ballads Parting, A Book in Memory and Universe but it sounds like you want to hear them rock out so you'll definitely want to listen to Aurora and Montage. They're good friends with Mamamoo and fellow label mates Oneus, an excellent boy group who debuted shortly before Onewe. Keyboardist Dongmyeong is the twin brother of Oneus's maknae Xion and the groups have collaborated on several songs. Mamamoo's Hwasa is featured on Onewe's song Q and Onewe did terrific rock versions of Mamamoo's Hip and Hwasa's Twit that I think you'll enjoy. Onewe was also the backup band for Mamamoo's rock version of Gogobebe at the 2019 MGMA award show and they backed up Hwasa on a Queen medley at the 2018 MBC Music Festival. There are three things you can depend on with groups under RBW: top tier vocals, creative involvement by the members in all aspects of their career, and that their popularity and commercial success are nowhere near what their talent deserves. RBW is mediocre at best at promoting their artists and unfortunately Onewe is one of the best kept secrets in Korean music so congrats for stumbling across them. Have fun getting to know them better! This is already too long but as a final note Onewe is one of the only three k-bands I follow regularly, the others being Hyukoh and Se So Neon. In case you want to hear other k-rockers Hyukoh is the gold standard of indie k-rock bands and Se So Neon is a really interesting group led by female singer/guitarist So-Yoon. Both groups' material is all over the map but since you like your rock with a harder edge I'd recommend Hyukoh's Wanli, which was clearly inspired by Joy Division, and Se So Neon's Joke, which is roughly in the same vein as Primus. There are other bands worth checking out but those three are my personal favorites.
