Desperately trying to check if the webcam and microphone quality are usable or really bad in laptop mode. Could not find this information anywhere else. Thanks for the comment about the cam below, trying to get data about the microphone now (for office meetings)
@@nemo136p they are not great. The webcam can get you buy if you need it to. Seems below 720p quality although it’s supposed to be 720p. The microphone isn’t great either. The quality of the microphone can make it hard to hear your voice to others. I wouldn’t use this often for teams and zoom calls.
very thorough review! the display on that is so good you can mistake it for being oled! controller looks comfy. wish it had 4 programmable back buttons instead of only 2 though. If you're mid-game and press the power button to put it to sleep, does it resume instantly like on steam deck?
@@knivesX1 I am. Working on a few videos. Testing out the rog Ally X currently. New zephyrus g16 with Ryzen ai hx 370 cpu comes in tomorrow!! But yes, the second video for optimization is in the works. Lots of editing.
@@thatdoc2298 here’s how I put it. X1 for power. But needs tweaking and has software issues that requires a little more work. Rog Ally X for battery life and ease of use. Works right out of the box.
Doesn't the controller cover one of the USB-type C ports? I think that's a pretty big negative if it does so you can't connect anything if you're charging the device while playing. Alot of newer handhelds, you have access to both USB type C ports.
@@fruitypops4ever485 totally agree. And yes. I think OneX was thinking people would be using this more as a 3-N-1 and that the consumer wasn’t going to care about it. However, I do find it annoying that it’s covered seeing how only use it as a handheld device.
What were your temps like when you experienced the TDP drops? Apparently, that magnetic backplate covers the one intake vent (idk why they didn't put another hole on that side). Some people suggested folding the top half down to use as a kickstand instead of pulling the bottom half upwards.
@@GamerVsTech Hmmm interesting, I wonder why they designed it like that. I imagine that second vent helps pull air over the board, ram chips and the SSD if you look at the internal layout of the device. Maybe everyone has been using the kickstand the wrong way 🤷♂️ Possibly something one of the members of the oneX team could answer or in the Discord
@@chrisboucher2813 yes I’m going to ask that in discord. I tried to look in there as best as I can and just see the board. No fans. So I think you are correct.
Great video brother I purchased this device with maxed out specs and I can't wait to receive it I also ordered the onexfly 2024 if you can do a review id like to see your honest opinion there's not much about onexplayer on RU-vid
@@chisubzero I have to 7840u version off the onexfly. There’s not a performance increase between the two. Just AI power in the 8840u. I love my onexfly. Just needs a little tlc to get it running right.
@@tlandermc562 personally for me no. But I feel that way about every handheld expect for the steam deck. I was born basically with a PlayStation controller in my hand. So nothing is near that. But they do just fine.
I’ve been on the fence about buying a gaming handheld. I own a Gen 6 Legion 7i with a 3080 and 64GB upgraded RAM, but it’s so cumbersome to haul around. I can’t get any work done outside of my office because even if it’s running in silent mode, it still gets hot and dies in less than an hour. This X1 seems like it would be great, especially with that keyboard so I can actually get work done too. Is there any significant performance difference between the 64 and 32? I don’t own any devices that share RAM like these handhelds and that’s why I haven’t purchased the Go. Also, how would you describe the difference between the Go and X1 screens? Thanks for the great vid!
@@artienbraum it depends on your use case. If you are lan on gaming and using it as a work device then I’d say 64 gb. 32 is totally enough for gaming. But if you want that extra power for work then 64 might be enough. Although you can just game and work separately and not at the same time. 32 is enough. As far as the screen, the legion go is a little more ergonomic. The controllers are built very well on the GO. The X1s controller is my lease favorite thing about them. They are not awful in any way. But not as nice as the legion go. I have very big hands so that might be it. However, the X1 is so powerful it puts the legion go to shame how well it can run games. And that screen!!! Wow!!! Bigger is better. The X1 is great when you can prop your arms up to take the weight load off. Or even table top gaming. Sounds to me like you’re pretty tech and computer savvy. The X1 needs a little tweaking. Join the discord if you have any questions or need help downloading files like bios updates and other drivers etc. hope this helps.
I really love this form Factory. But IS it commfortable enough for using as every day laptop using ms office, photoshop, or even un Real engine with thé e GPU ?
@@herveschneider67 as a laptop yes. This is definitely the snappiest device I own. For some reason it’s just quicker than any other handheld at the same wattage. When using as a laptop this device is insanely good. Hooking it up with an egpu is also a great experience. I had a chance to use the the ONEX egpu over oculink for a short period of time and it turns this device into an absolute beast. 32gb of ram is good but you may want to go for the 64gb version if you plan on doing all that just to be safe.
Just got mine the controllers seems tight fitting maybe they fixed the issue in subsequent batches. I wish the controllers were a bit bigger though they seem a bit too small.
if you were to give an opinion, assuming I have the money for it, should I go for this or the misfortune V3? been looking into both and I'm having hard time deciding
@@derrickmoore7013 depends on your use case. The x1 is my #1 handheld. It plays everything very well. But, you need to be a little technologically inclined to own a OneXPlayer. They require some extra work to get them working great. That being said it is a BEAST but It is heavy. However, I really like the Minisforum V3. If I were to take the controllers off the x1 and put the x1 side by side with the Minisforum I’d pick the Minisforum all day. It’s native landscape and it has vrr which makes a HUGE difference with these igpus. If you have a lapdesk and a controller than I’d say the Minisforum V3. If you want a handheld id pick the X1
@@mbalbom yes I believe I only had 3 resolutions as well. Did you follow the discord? You can post your questions there and it’s a great community. Tons of info
Thanks for the review! How would you rate 800p on X1 display? In theory it should scale 1 pixel into 4 precisely bringing next to none fuzziness. Isn't it blurry in fact?
@@EnzoMatrix11 I wouldn’t say gaming at 800p is bad, but it’s necessary sometimes. It usually boils down to battery life and how demanding the game is. For example, Cyberpunk, sure I can max out the resolution, but I’d be hitting 20 fps average. Dropping it to 800p on a large screen like this will not be as detailed. If I had to rate it on blurriness scale I’d say a 2 out of 10. 10 being the blurriest. But the large screen makes it very comfortable. Steam deck is the best 800p device. This is second.
@@anatomikq possibly. If I did it would only be for the channel. I don’t see myself using that one more than this one. My ROG Ally X came today so I’ll be preoccupied for the next week or so testing that out.
@GamerVsTech perfect! Been looking to replace my already dead Flow Z13 that Asus refused to fix cause of a warranty issue! Just made up my mind and ordered one!
Ok finally got my onexplayer x1. Loving it so far. My only problem is the battery life. But nayway, is here anway to have smart chargng on? Thanks in advance
@@JLudwigCruz the thing about handhelds and these apus is that they are not huge boosts in performance compared to other gens. But I will say my onex mini pro with 6800u can even come close to the 8840u. I just can’t wait until they start putting the new Ryzen 890m in handhelds. It’s 30% faster than the 780m igpu.
Almost pulled the trigger on this one or the x1 mini. Couldnt justify it because already had the minisforum v3 which is awesome in its own right. their version of 3 in 1 is really interesting where you can use it as secondary monitor which i use for work, switch, other handheld units really makes a difference. If only it had more HD and an oculink.
@@kevintan9881 I really like the v3. Especially for the free sync display and the native landscape. Which is really really good. I wish the v3 had a bigger battery though.
@@stewwey4059 I’ve never had a problem with any of my onex devices. But if you have a support related issue and need to send you device in for repair, they are located in China.
Ive got all the mainstream handhelds. Im looking to get at least one of these chinese handhelds. Right now im trying to decide one the x1,x1 mini, or the minisforum v3. I love the way you sell the x1. My biggest fear is customer support. Spending 1k and having an issue with no support would drive me insane. How would i rma or handle warranty problems?
@@justinheuser5676 I say it’s between the X1 or the V3. The X1 is a great handheld, but the V3 has native landscape and a 28 W TDP. And if you connect 100 W or 65 W power bank to the V3 it’s pretty damn awesome, but as far as handheld goes, the x1 takes the cake. Warranty stuff is pretty much the same as any other company. But you’re sending your device all the way back to China. From my experience it takes like two months there and back. That’ll be the case for both minisforum or onex.
@@Dragorus360 on battery I ran it at 1200p. That’s to preserve battery life. Theres not a single competitor in this realm that can achieve this battery life at 1200p resolution. I own every major gaming laptop from over the last 4 years. You can play any game in high resolution and get great performance. But battery life will go down. Still beats any laptop out there.
@GamerVsTech How do you feel about the right side thumbstick? I here a lot say it's too low or close to the edge of the bottom of the controller and uncomfortable to use...What are your thoughts?
Major pass. This device is too damn big to play comfortably. Deff does not beat the legion go . The average game doesn't want to carry that large screen around .
@@GamerVsTech idk from what I’ve seen not much of a difference and if it does the size isn’t there for this X1 player . The size just ruins it . This is great if you’re at home not on the go. Someone would look silly somewhere public playing on that giant thing. It does look cool though . But same as all these handhelds over time they start playing like every other older handheld
So tell me something, bro. People always tell me that buying a onexplayer from China would be a bad idea because if anything goes wrong, I would need to send it back to China for repair. Now, is there any way that I can get a warranty for a onexplayer device out here in the USA? That's the only reason I haven't bought a handheld from OnexPlayer because of the customer support. I would like to know if I can get it repaired here in the USA if anything ever goes wrong.
@@venancioder9288 unfortunately no. If it needs to get repaired it has to go back to China. I’m more worried within the first 30 days. Usually I’ll know whether or not to keep a device within that time. That’s why I suggest buying from Amazon for the easy return. But if it breaks after that period then it has to be shipped directly to them in china . There are people that can repair them in the US. But they won’t be covered under the warranty. Ive had 6 OneXPlayer devices. Never had to send any of them back. Usually it’s just software stuff that I can fix on my own.
I really want to get one of these next month, but with strix point now coming out idk if I should wait but don't want to wait months so most likely will get one of these next month. the thumbsticks would feel light if you never used hall effect sticks. Maybe you have but they have a less resistance feel than typical sticks. All my controllers are hall effect, now when I use a xbox controller it feels like it has rubberbands in the sticks, I'm use to the smooth light feel.
@@Cerealkiller824 hard to tell when strix point will come to handhelds. But I’m very excited because 890m promises to be 30% faster. I’ll be getting the new G16 laptop with the AI HX 370 soon. I’ll have an idea then. As far as the sticks go. I’m doing another video soon modding the stick with tight Hall effect modules. Video coming soon.
@@GamerVsTech thanks great vid BTW. yeah maybe I'll wait a month for any strix point handheld rumors, maybe two. But I really like the X1 screen size, with how onex is I feel like they would push a strix point x1 announcement end of the year... Hmm idk I just want the X1 now lol
@@knivesX1 you won’t. It’s a great device. I’ve ordered several devices direct from them. Luckily the controllers detach and usually handhelds controllers are the only things that break more often than internals. You can always buy the controllers third party.
Hey try not to think about this too much but your head moves way too much when you're talking...it seems unnatural to me. This console is fucking ridiculously large. Like comically large. But it seems to run some shit!

$1500 for a 3-n-1 tablet, netbook, and handheld. Yes $1500 seems high. But the performance is unmatched. Yes there are other cheaper handhelds that can still give you and amazing experience. But if you’re an FPS junkie, this is the one and it’s worth it.
