@@billyandrews5350 Great question, Billy! I think that if my character, Lurch, had been something resembling an intelligent human being, I would have done that. But, in order to be the loveable dimwit he was, I thought it best to just be a blank slate. I auditioned that way, too. When I went in for the callback audition, the Director, Tony Dow opened the door and said, "Won't you take a seat?" So, I looked at him for a moment, said "thank you", then picked up the chair, walked out of the office, and brought it out to my car. I think that got me the part!

It was a gamble for the BBC to do this one as it was quite expensive, but boy oh boy did it work so well. Hats off to the late great John Sullivan who wrote the series.

My dad sounds quite similar to Del Boy - when we were on holiday in Scotland an American tourist asked which part of Australia he was from and my dad said 'I'm from Essex (England) mate' then later a Scottish guy asked the same thing!

Dude there is a hilarious show that not many people know about called “how not to live your life” it was a comedy on bbc3 that ran for 3 series from 2007-2010 I believe. I think you would find it hilarious. It’s so underrated. Your subscribers would like it too

I've always enjoyed this episode a lot. Only 8 episodes left now which are all Christmas Specials (of course we know Josh has completed it via Patreon) but still some great episodes to come. The next one is definitely another good one and another dodgy deal that the Trotters "spring" up

Only the bits outside of the UK had no laugh track. The bits in the UK did have a laugh track on the original broadcast.

It’s funny, I’ve seen MBB a million times, I used to have them on VHS back in the day and I have the DVD boxset and yet, I have never seen Series 1. It’s not right without Tony and I’ve only ever heard people slate the first series, so I just never bothered.

Me neither at least I remember not liking it, but as someone pointed out above it never had a laugh track when it was originally released, not being in front of a studio audience, but the version Josh was watching did, I think looking back thats why I never liked it, because without the laugh track it didn't feel like only Fools, might have to dig out the full version with Laugh track and reassess.

@Paul Guise, I don't think it was a case of running out of ideas. There were some great episodes post Miami Twice. I think it's just a case of he tried something a bit different with one. Personally I quite like this feature length special even though it's not one of the absolute best.

This episode is more like an action comedy movie that features characters from Only Fools and Horses. This episode is not part of the Only Fools and Horses true canon. For me, this episode is probably the stupidest they ever made.... but it still very funny, enjoyable to watch and it makes me laugh hard

@@davidthomas3826 what about Del going on a game show and losing on the right answer? Or Albert impregnating an entire French village? What about Gary? Or the Boycie murdered Marlene plot but she ended up just having a boob job? Even before then the plot line about toxic waste and a tap water business. Rodney's future vision with Cyborg Uncle Albert, Del's stalker. Del starting a riot by singing then stopping it by honking his novelty horn. And of course Batman and Robin. The show was very silly and over the top from 1991 onwards.

@@Fireglo I can't disagree with you about Fools and Horses going over the top. I never found the Batman and Robin scene all that funny and Rodney's dream of Damien ruling a Blade Runner style future just felt weird to me. But the height of silliness for me was this American episode. But I still found it funny

these american characters in a single episode, like 'lurch' could have had an entire series on them. john sullivan could have made an american tv series...and if he was around right now he prob would be offered a huge deal to do it. amazes me how absolute dog poo 'comedians' like jerry seinfeld are worth $800m and john sullivan who was far more talented, nmaybe 2% of that.

Tony Dow, the Director of that episode, told me ("Lurch") that a "Lurch & Trigger" spinoff would be a great idea. He said that we were both so dense that the script would only need to be two pages. 😅
