Somebody told me that they felt that this was a step backwards in chest rigs but honestly the simple design and ability to add a few pouches on the side is all you really need in a chest rig. People have been brainwashed by thinking they need speed reloads and quick reindexing of magazines and multiple velcro pouches that don't hold enough of what you need....
Speed reloads from a chest rig or plate carrier are just weird. I was taught that if you want to speed reload you use the pouches on your belt. To me using the belt makes far more sense, put your fancy esstac or taco pouches down there and use those. Refill them from your chest rig when you use off of the belt.
The black lining is supposedly to last long from abrasion of some sort. Idk how it works but it’s out there. Edit: Apparently it’s suppose to be weatherproof.
The Mayflower UW Gen VI rig has a map pocket that extends across the whole back of the rig similar to the onward. It’s actually pretty useful I keep a signaling panel off to one side and a small foot care kit on the other
I really wanted to love mine. After experimenting with different configurations, I couldn’t help but wish it had only three mag pouches and three columns of molle each side.
@@TerryWhisk Generally in recce you do want to carry a lot of ammo because your team size is small and you don't necessarily have ISR, CAS, or QRF readily available. However, it generally also comes with bearing a lot of sustainment load and ancillary equipment too, which the recce rig does not seem to excel in.
@@TerryWhisk I would read the ITS Tactical article from about 10 years ago about the search and rescue tracker and his loadout. That's the gold standard for recce rigs I think.
I'm 5'4, do you recommend the simp pouch? I'm using the dangler that comes with the spiritus taps upgrade kit, and it's usable but a bit long and floppy for my tastes
The SIMP reminds me of the built in dangler on the Platatac mk5. I use the simp as a small blowout kit as it can't hold much else that's useful for me as a civilian. I like it though because my TQ, gauze and mini shears are fully protected from the elements. Happy thanks giving Fish and everyone else! 🇺🇲
I currently run the simp pouch with my spiritus system lv119 overt. And I gotta say I'm a big fan of the simp pouch. Reason being I'm smol and don't have a lot of room to hang stuff off my kit
Good video and review. I would prefer one less mag pouch and more molle. Can you attach a camelback to it ?. A little padding on the straps would make long term wear a little nicer. Where did you score the radio ?.
I dont understand only having 2 columns of molle on the sides. It kills this rig for me, most GP pouches require at least 3 columns, if not 4, so this seems likea huge miss to not just add 1 more column
Plenty of utility pouches are available as a two column and almost all radios are two column. With 4 mag pouches it’s starting out wider than most of the market.
only Travis Haley thinks the X Harness is an "upgrade" from the H lmoa. I think every hates the x harness but him lol. but i use a flatpack, would this clip to a flatpack?
@@Ty-sq7yi I like the H for long duration missions. Like patrols and such. Especially when you're bogged down with gear, it helps to dissipate the weight more evenly. Why I enjoy coupling my rigs to a pack of sort.
I got small shoulders and HATE H-Harnesses, they tend do slide down on one shoulder or the other, because the web that forms the middle part of the "H" is to wide and not adjustable. Never had this issue with X harnesses.
@@Carmoflage I prefer the X-harness because I can adjust the height of the rig a lot better than an H-harness. H-harnesses never have enough adjustment for ride height.
Great review as always! i noted that the one you reviewed has coyote buckles and velcro wraps instead of the black ones shown on the website, is that a custom order/special drop?
@@EODFish I mean I wouldn't be opposed 🤷♂️ Side note, your approach to gear is always refreshingly practical, ever think about coming up with your own designs?
It's nice to see an "influencer" that is putting out quality products and not jacking up the prices 'cause their name is on it. I am really interested in the SIMP. Have you messed with Ferro's mini dangler? I have Grey Ghost's dangler and it gets in the way of the horizontal emergency mag on my belt.
Before you ever got to the chest rig portion, i read the comments about the inner black reinforced lining of the mag pouches and thought, “hey that sounds like a tactailor pouch…” well what do you know. Seems we think alike.
I liked mine till it ripped under the stress of 4 mags loaded with 25 rounds. The buckle attaching the rig to the h harness ripped straight off of the placard. Very disappointing. I didn't even take it out to Ruck or train.
Great company but the chest rig is lacking you can find parts and build one the exact same way for about half the cost and make it a little more mission capable
@@EODFish local surplus stores have blank panels and you can find all kinds of mag pouches and dangler pouches s*** slightly used but still better than paying over $200 for a chest ring and it's not mission compatible
@@EODFish Also Condor makes cheap shit too everybody cracks on it but I've been running it for a few years on certain things and I ain't never had any problems with it and you can buy a blank panel for $30 and $10 magazine pouches radio pouches you can get a dangler pouch I pack kits whatever you need and it's still about half price
