Kenny Smith always sounding like a goddamn clown. He knows the Spurs were not Houston's biggest threat. The Sonics had almost a.700 winning percentage against them from 1987-1996, including 4 playoff series losses. The 1993 Suns were the most talented team not to win a Championship. Ever. MVP Chuck. All-Star KJ. All-Star 3&D Dan Majerle. Tom Chambers who averaged 27 a couple years before that. @riffraff1350
@riffraff1350 2 года назад
To be fair, Smith was a pretty good player. He averaged 15 PPG and 7 assists early in his career and that production really only tapered off as his shot attempts fell. If he hunted shots instead of getting them only in the flow of the offense, he easily gets to 17 PPG and maybe more. Smith was also strong performer in the playoffs. In his prime, he was averaging around 14 PPG (on only 10 FGAs), had an A/TO ratio of better than 2 to 1 and for his career shot better than 44% from three. He might not be a superstar but he was clutch. In that respect, he's earned a voice.

True, back then players played high school ball in their city and state, they played college ball in their conference, then when they got to the NBA, most players weren't friends with each other unless they played college ball together, or grew up in the same city as each other. NOW, with national AAU programs and high school 'prep' programs', all the 4 and 5 star recruits KNOW each other if they're within a year of each other. It's hard to be enemies with guys you know. Then, when you got to the NBA, players didn't want to move cities, unless their team REALLY sucked, they REALLY hated where they were playing, or the team REALLY wanted them gone. Orlando pretty much had to really make every dumb decision possible to send him to LA, he was ready to resign what should've been a done deal.

They understand that Seattle under George Karl had the best record of any team besides Chicago during that stretch right? Kenny should have had more respect for the sonics too considering that Houston didn't win a series against the sonics while he was there
@PGO_Gaming
@PGO_Gaming Год назад
True, but Seattle was prone to being upset early. Their best team was 94' and that was the year of Dikembe Mutombo. That is why the Rockets got out of the West that year. Karl was known for coughing it up in a big spot.

It seems like Kenny Smith as well as others like Scottie Pippen don't like giving Clyde the Glide Drexler any kind of credit , even when a conversation like this one was taylor made to give Clyde and his Blazers team who he took to the NBA finals twice and the western conference finals three good times against teams like the Lakers . Even though Clyde( Houston home boy) was an important part of the Rockets, kenny finds a way to steer credit away from him 🤨. Wonder if he is still mad about losing Otis Thorp 🤔. But Otis could not tie the Glides laces 😒🏀

Kenny was a facilitator and a guide on 2 championships . His job was to distribute and keep happy the players around HO . And feed the then greatest center . Mad max Elie Horry were not the most talented group but they did have bench sparks like Cassell. Probably the least talented team to win it all on a man to man matchup level. But as MJ said and maybe it's why he took a baseball sabbatical the only man he feared was Hakeem. Shaq and that magic team were a spectularly talented but flawed team lacking maturity and I dare say imaginative flare. They were undisciplined predictable and frustratable. The jazz combo was predictably frustrating and unstoppable but unimaginative and undertalented they tried 3 shooting guards successively Malone Russell Hornacek all capable but not super athletes . After Eaton left no true center. They had some responsible dependable journeyman but no real bench spark . The sonics came within an eyelash of defeating the Bulls in a series that Rodman was the real Mvp of. The sonics were deep at every position except Center. And bulls were deep at CENTER.

Easy, THE JAZZ. Two cracks at it and should've gotten at least one (1997-98 team). Key piece that put them in title-contending mode was definitely Hornacek, but they kept getting denied by either Olajuwon's Rockets or Jordan's Bulls 😬.
