it's how much I disagree with Kenny on this. like, not even that I think his opinion is wrong, but also, that the opposite is right. the NBA is evolving. that means, that it is getting tougher to be successful as an NBA player, and todays player would simply know some things about how to play Basketball that players from the 80's haven't figured out yet. and he can't accept that.

It actually would benefit the older players more with that logic. If you give older players the standard of medicine and technology today. They would be bigger, faster, stronger, and all around athletic and healthier then they were then. If you put current guys in the standard of the medicine of the 80s. Injuries would take longer to heal, they also wouldn't have the athleticism that they have now. If MJ did they insane things he did in the 80s and 90s. Imagine him with the technology standard of today. He would be even more mythical in athleticism than he already is

I don't know if I agree with Isaiah regarding Magic not playing as the PG, for one simple reason: LeBron loves to play that role and is a relatively the same size. LeBron on the Lakers took the ball down the court and did a lot of no look passing this last season.

@@Realest1ne well from 2008 celtics team's run, defense as a priority was slowly getting erased... In 09,10,11 defensive plays were primarily given very little attention in fact offenses esp shot contact fouls started increasing according to me ersonally the stretch from 1999 to 2008 saw wcf and ecf teams all 4 of them were built on defense... The 2009 bulls, celtics, suns and mavs showed tilted offense as the foundation and that worked because it was cheaper to build a team around offense at that time.. I hope my explanation makes sense.

It was a high scoring era as well. Teams back then averaged over 100 points, the 90's was terrible offensively but great defensively. This is the most skilled era but it's lacking the defensive intensity of the 80's. All the game needs today is consistent referring. Let guys get a little physical. No need for handchecking at least allow some contact.
@antoninicolas6222

I’m not too sure when this was but if I’m guessing it’s the early 2010s? And based on Kenny’s criteria, he’s correct. The only 2-3 guys who would survive in that era would be LBJ, Kobe and CP3. Maybe Wade. You can count Duncan/KG and Dirk but they were on the down hill in terms of superstar status
@benjacoby4899
@benjacoby4899 4 года назад
He's not correct, watch a game from the 80s and the defense isn't good. Teams averaged more ppg back then than today, defense was awful. The best defensive era was from like 1995-2010, and then slowly the Warriors and the Rockets started shooting more 3s, spacing the floor making it easier for the highly skilled players of today to do well. LBJ Kobe would dominate I agree, but who from the 80s could guard Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony Paul George it could go on. I'll put it this way, Kawhi Leonard could do a better job defending Larry Bird than Bird could guard him, same goes with Magic or James Worthy. Everybody acts like Rodman was a beast and no doubt he was, and they say Draymond Green is a poor man's Rodman, yet Draymond weighs 280 compared to Rodman's 220.
@Realest1ne
@Realest1ne 3 года назад
@@benjacoby4899 The among of points scored is dictated by pace. The 80’s were high paced but tougher defense was allowed. What’s a flagrant today was just a hard foul back then. Also, you could hand check. So all those guards you named would not be able to score as easily with somebody all up on them, unlike today with the “freedom of movement” rules. And the difference between Rodman and Draymond is athleticism. Draymond would be a bench guy in the 80’s-early 00’s.

9:58 - I like Grant, but have to disagree, when he says Wilt Wasn't as dominant. Might wanna check out the NBA record books, he's got more than anyone. He didn't physically dominate as much % wise as Shaq did , not because he couldn't , but because he wanted to prove he could play a finesse game and not bully his way with size, not that he didn't use his size, but listen to guys from that era say how much his strength was feared, no one that had brains tried to mess with him, even after he retired, listen to the story about Mel Daniels when Wilt was the Coach for SanDiego and all the guys stopped like a brick wall, no one wanted any of Wilt when he walked out on the court. If he chose to play physical and push guys out of the way like Shaq did , maybe only guys like Yao and G.Muresan etc are not getting plowed over. And here is my final and most important point --- Wilt averaged in his Career 45.8mpg (Shaq 34.7mpg) , Wilt was taller, Faster , STRONGER, and had more weapons in his arsenal , on top of which he was Michael Jordan level of competitive in terms of not wanting to lose. If people look more into what he was ......they'd see great as Shaq was , Wilt ....would be just fine.

Right now might be the most talented era. We have established legends like CP3, KD, Bron, Harden, Westbrook, Curry. We have greats that are in their prime and have things to prove like Lillard, AD, Kyrie, Giannis, Butler. We also have so many young stars that clearly have legendary talent like Zion, Luka, Jokic, Mitchell, Lamelo, Tatum, etc. Even some bench players are very talented. It's basically required for everyone to have some sort of ability to make plays, shoot, and guard the perimeter.

Isaiah Thomas has forgotten more about basketball than I will ever know but I have to respectfully disagree that Magic would be a better center in this era than point guard, the physicality of the big man now the athleticism all of that would be too much for Magic who wasn't crazy physical or athletic like a lot of these guys are today and to take away Magic's natural advantage being a 6'9 pg wouldn't be the best idea to me because if Ricky Rubio can be a good pg for as long as he's been then Magic would still be a great pg in this era
@turnupthesun81
