Legend! Thanks. Most videos cover the other version with the short spindle. I couldn’t work out how to get to what I guessed were screws behind the red strip. Had to go a bit further and take the motor out of the spindle, thought I was going to need a new one but I started spinning it around and a hairball came out and it started working. Having a bench PSU I could set to 16.2V helped to test without plugging everything back in (PS: black is positive on the Dyson!) Also invaluable having the video for the reassembly. Saved me AU$130 on a new one.
I made a mistake the first time I ever cleaned the Direct Drive, and removed the black foam seal, it took me ages to put it back correctly, with the right amount of stretch (as it is streched when put inside of the grooves it has), however, it can be done, with an absurd amout of patience. With that said, don't do it, it serves no purpose, and it likely won't be dirty on the inside, just wipe it down with a damp cloth if you really need to.
Excellent video - the grey plastic around the wheel has broke on mine, would you recommend but this piece and attach the new one or is this not possible because of the wiring?
@@OpenMeUpTec That's what I came to see as well. ... It starts to spin, then stops. It is still powered, there is just something in there making it jam.
@@qatsi00probably a bit late, but my motor had a hairball inside it. I manually span it around after removing it and saw some hair poke out the vents and managed to remove it all. Working great now.
Hi, excellent tutorial - I was wondering if you knew how to fix a direct drive head that's making a rattling sound? I just got a brand new vacuum cleaner today and don't want to have to send it back if there's an easy fix. Recorded a video with the noise: ru-vid.com3NiryFqmX3E
