This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the open tube manometer also known as the u-tube manometer. It explains how to calculate the absolute pressure of the gas in the bulb and the gauge pressure given the height difference in the two columns. In addition, it discusses how to calculate the density of the unknown fluid. It contains plenty of examples and practice problems.

Dear Sir............Example Problem : One hydraulic cylinder, the end is connected to the Threaded rod so that it can be rotated. Cylinders with a bore size of 18 mm, 10 mm rod and a stroke of 300 mm single acting in a condition that is filled with oil. If the cylinder is rotated 10 mm. a. How to calculate it b. What is the gauge pressure

For the u-tube manometer you didn't convert cm to m why??
@anilsharma-ev2my

Why we cannot use a dam like a barometer which gives electricity without flow of water outside so we can provide electricity even if there no enough water in dam

when it's a closed tube. as long as air can access the tube you have to consider the atmospheric pressure

So if the gas pressure is less than the atm then it acts like a vacuum
@deependraverma4382
@deependraverma4382 5 лет назад
No, It doesn't act like that. Forces just become unbalanced. If it was a pure vacuum then the whole liquid is shifted to the other side because atmospheric pressure is 10^5 Pa and Vacuum pressure is 0. Hope it helps!!

What if I’m not given the height of mercury?
@nathan8472
@nathan8472 3 года назад
solve for "h" in the equation if other values are given.
@barreltapper
@barreltapper 5 лет назад
So if the pressure of the gas is removed, the mercury would mount on the right side to the same level as the left side,, does this mean that gravity is pushing and pulling at the same time? In other words why does gravity need to find a level?
@zyrojaymontero7631
@zyrojaymontero7631 4 года назад
because gravity is a downward force acted upon things so we need to consider it.

So if you just use the height difference of 600mmHg and convert to Pa, you calculate a slightly different value: 181,317 Pa. Can you reconcile? Especially given your video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8P5NlpxGT7Y.html Same for the second example: 47,995.92 Pa
