Funny that you posted this now. I just recently got into Sorcery, and I picked up six random packs yesterday... to my surprise, I pulled an Avatar of Fire Curio Sketch Card!! At first I didn't know what I was looking at, since I am so new to the game. Now, I am Hooked!
Grats on that curio pull. Extremely lucky! I've torn through 23 alphas and 17 beta boxes with no curio yet. It's a blast all the same though, even the foils are so amazing in person.
I’m addicted to this game. As an old casual player this is my jam. I haven’t opened up this many boxes since probably mh1 or war of the spark. I’m probably propping up the market right now.
@@beckeliasson8465 Oh its leagues better than MTG. I've yet to have a single bad experience in Sorcery and every game, even when playing with the same decks, are a unique experience. The grid/positioning mechanics adds so much depth to the mid-late game. In sorcery it's less dependent on luck-of-the-draw and more about the strategy you utilize with the many different Avatars where you need to play to their individual strategies/mechanics in order to win, yet your unlimited in the ways you might want to deck build them. MTG still has that bad taste every once in a while when you unluck into a mana flood/drought and most games the threats/control strats remain very similar to almost predictable once you see your opponents first few drops.
Sad we had to get rid of our alpha, but such a great decision for us financially. We will be forever grateful for what you did for us. Would still like to get into Beta if time/money allows. Love the art and gameplay I’ve seen. Thanks for opening this!
Remember to check out your Bridge Troll, Bosk Troll, and Cave Trolls on the back of the card and see if it says “An Erik’s Curio Game” instead of “An Erik’s Curiosa Game”. 😉 The Curios are always in the Ordinary slot and congratulations on the Unique foil, Vesuvius! 🔥 Unique lands are pretty cool as well, and you got a “site box”, but still cool.
Your box is what is above average and is known as the Unique Land box. It's one of the clumpings that Alpha had. The average box has about 8 Uniques and 7 to 9 foils with one Foil Unique. Many boxes have no Foil Unique cards. There are sites that are like "dual lands". The Mix cards are part of the "power nine". Cores are like the moxes. The most expensive regular set card is the Foil Philosopher's Stone. "Curios" are like 1 in a hundred boxes. Not all the curios are known when the set gets released. They have to be "discovered". BTW, I thought Creepy Rudy held the monopoly on opening packs without any clue of what he is looking at. Awesome first box opening guys!!!
I got an alpha booster box, an alpha precon box and an alpha kickstarter pledeg pack. Bought that combo during the kickstarter campaign in 2022. I will never open that alpha stuff. Waiting for beta to get to my country to open some Sorcery!
That was one of the best alpha boxes I’ve seen. I usually get only 3-6 uniques total per box. Even though Vesuvius is in the Fire starter, that foil will be a welcome upgrade in any fire player’s deck.
Thanks for the video. I appreciate your honest evaluation. In terms of uniques, your box was a homerun. The foil unique card you hit is about a $300 card. The mix cards are considered part of the "power nine" or Alchemy 9. The big hit besides a curio, is the foil Philosopher Stone which sells for around 6k. I believe, based on 29k Alpha boxes, the pull rate for unique foils, only 300 exist for each unique card in foil. Its hard to sit on unopened boxes of Sorcery. The struggle is real.
Yep this. I was fortunate to land a few cases during kickstarter and picked up another on ebay shortly before alpha shipped. Had planned to keep at least one sealed case but I've already talked myself down into just keeping one box left sealed is enough for collection... lol. I tore through those boxes like a 6 year old in a candy shop.
@mmgonewild For sure. I signed up for the basic package for the kick starter due to Rudy mentioning it. Very grateful for some reason I later went back and added 2 more booster boxes. Kicking myself for not just adding a case. I then purchased the 4th from Ebay. Beta boxes are fun to open as well but Alpha has more hits with the Frank art cards. I am close to finishing my Alpha NF set. Its a new thing, wanting to complete a set of cards. That has been long gone from Magic.
Folks! Do not miss out on this game. It is unlike (in a good way) any other TCG out there. The Avatars play so differently yet the Elements and Card design is so simple and cohesive the deck building and strategies are endless. A battlemage is a completely different play experience than the Enchantress, for example, yet a fire/air battlemage can be similar in to a fire/air Enchantress in tactics but still different in gameplay. The Avatars are like classes in Diablo in how different they are yet you are still playing the same game, if that makes sense. You are not limited at all in which cards/deck strategies you want to use and there's so many endless ways to build your favorite Avatars. No other TCG game feels so unique in every game/situation yet feels so cohesive and not artificial. The game is so superbly designed, its on a whole other level. The grid based mechanic adds so much to the strategy/tactical side to the game its unreal no one has thought of it before. Card games are normally about resources and threat disruption but when you add positioning on top of that it brings so much complexity to the mid-late game (also in a good way) that its a real curve to mastering. You'll keep finding new ways to utilize the same cards/combos. No game is alike due to the positioning of sites and it almost feels like a board game hybrid in that sense. When you think about the game with even more cards/avatars coming down the pipeline you'll realize the potential the game could be under proper/professional leadership. I have no doubt Erik and his team will deliver, I suspect even they'll have a digital client of the game in the next five years, and when that happens... oh boy!
damn that's one hell of a loaded box with all those unique's and foils though none of the huge hits but still a very nice box. 403 card set and guessing you only pulled around 200 or so of them if that, good luck if open another or 2 in the future at some point. it's not quite FaB but its a good in between things since it will only be once a year or so. So don't have to buy the newest set every 3-4 months. Usually average box is around 7-8 uniques and 9 foils just for normal baseline on average with a slight variant sometimes. And clumping in some boxes between unique sites or normal uniques kinda things. you'll see maybe if open a bit more.
