Remember the collector may have known something you have not noticed yet. Mistakes, double stamping, upside-down front to back, etc. There are many things that make some coins unique, and collectors like them. Thanks for bringing us along for the adventure of the treasure hunt!
Alex, what made me smile was at 11:51, what you dismissed as " a bag with some cloth in it" turned out to be a jewellery roll with all those treasures inside. Happy for you and Melissa.
I started shouting at him that it was a jewellery bag. With all the stuff Alex can identify at a partial glance, he doesn't know where the jewellery is?
The only ones who make the big bucks off diamonds are the wholesalers and retailers. Everyone else just gets very little, unless it's a 5 caret or larger. So damn many diamonds out there. Rubies, emeralds are the ones that get you more because they are so much rarer.
I love that you saved the peacock! Just a suggestion, Melissa might want to add a little riser underneath it so it will sit up higher in the cabinet; that way, you will be able to see the bottom and the full tail feathers. It's such a beautiful piece. : )
That stone you found was most likely Alexanderite, NOW VERY RARE, (one of June's birthstones-the other is a pearl) not mystic topaz. The pink stone with the small diamonds around it could be a pink diamond or pink topaz or pink sapphire. The redish heart shaped on with tiny fiamonds around it could be a garnet (garnet runs anywhere from green to purple and about every shade in between). If it is set in gold, most likely it is some sort of REAL STONE. Just am FYI. Even white topaz is a precious stone. The rings are beautiful.
Those were not alexandrite... they were mystic topaz, alexandrite will be brownish purple in one kind of light and then the whole stone will have a color change when brought into natural light. The pink stone is most likely morgnite but could be pink sapphire, it doesn't appear to have the sintalation (sparkle as it moved) like a diamond would have had. I was surprised they didn't diamond it test it just incase since it would have been 50k if it was a pink diamond lol
I was thinking the same thing, Tanzanian. I make jewellery & the big stone was mystic topaz but a smaller, similar stone caught my eye as Alexandrite. No longer being dug up so getting pricier by the day! Alex needs to take them all to a jeweller to be checked & tested. Also, he needs to be told that semi has been dropped (quite a few years ago) as anything dug out of the earth is precious.
@@jenniferfox301 ya I didn't even really see that one well enough he only held it sideways most of the time hard to tell what that was was very on the brown side if we are talking about the same halo split shank ring. But I did see colour change through the stone. It might be lab created since it was still really large and eye clean. Since there was the lab created ruby ring earlier too
I picked my own wedding band up at a pawn shop in 2008 and I paid $150 for it and get compliments on it all the time. A few years ago, I took it to a jeweler to repair a broken prong on the setting and he valued the ring at $2000. It is 14k with a row of diamond flowers set just above the band. I don’t have an engagement ring because I would constantly be snagging it on things. I used to manage a clothing store and even my small ring snagged things, that is how my prong broke. I was lucky my ring was dirty, all the lotion in it held the stone in place.
Yes, I lost the big diamond from my engagement ring down a drain in a highrise building where I was working, never to be seen again lol I still have it. Tried to sell it at one point, 18k and still has the smaller diamonds, but I was being offered next to nothing. I have other diamonds. I'll get one put in there when I get around to it
Melissa had that happy jewelry face and I don't blame her. Every discovery made means you are climbing out of that $20,000. plus time plus expenses investment. Beautiful rings, btw. Best of luck to you in every box you open. This was fun.
Don’t forget they already made $10,000 on the furniture. So they need way more than $10K to break even with costs. I think they’ll likely make a profit. They should get the rings appraised and have a reserve at auction. I loved the way Melissa wasn’t at all interested in switching out her wedding rings. I wasn’t either when my husband wanted to buy me a larger stone. I’m not a fan of gaudy jewelry even if real. I have small hands and I prefer something suited to my hand size.
@@cynthiaamitrano8915 it's weird isn't it that the bigger the diamond the more fake it looks,? I often look in the jewellery store windows and the rings I prefer are the less flashy ones. Given that I don't wear any of the rings I have, im not likely to lash out and buy any. We get some great diamonds from mines in western Australia.
@@barrettorth8413 That seems like a high estimate to me considering they only made $10,000 on the furniture. They would have to sell a total of $50,000 to $60,000 to profit what you estimate. Of course they still have to pay the auction fees, etc.
Even though it may be tempting just to spend the coins which are face value I think it would be worth selling them at auction as there are quite a few businesses on EBay and Etsy that make souvenir items out of old coins based on the individual years such as for 50th birthday
Phew! After that first safe I was thinking it was going to be disappointing and what they put in that first one was odd. Congrats on a nice little haul. I hope all together the whole contents you'll sell will make you a profit. Thank you for an awesome series.
not far into this video but before I forget the thought: put a block ( books, whatever) under the peacock to bring in more into display as the cabinet door bottom is cutting part of it off. AT Last, TREASURE! I was beginning to be disappointed, thankfully the second box paid off!
That was a nice accumulated assortment of pricey rings that could bring you a well deserved windfall. Hope so because you certainly put a lot of work into sorting all the house content that benefitted many others as well. So here is hoping you hit the mother load. You are a real find yourselves and a very precious family.
Lots of fun watching your video....as usual.....this piece of advice comes from an old American glass collector....those small covered jars that were all tapped up.....happens to be American depression glass...Windsor diamond to be exact...and pretty collectable down here in the States .
Where is Hans, did he leave the show, I’ve been gone for a while so I don’t really know what’s going on I’m trying to get caught back up and up the first thing I saw when I came online
That purple and green stone might be an alexandrite. If it is and it's natural, it's worth a ton of money. Also, you might want to check the large blue-green stone to make sure it isn't Paraiba tourmaline, also worth a pile of money.
I think my husbands Aunt has a Paraiba tourmaline ring, I remember seeing it when we first met (very formal meeting lol) & my jaw dropped as it was SO beautiful. I’ve always joked to my husband for our 25th anniversary he could get me one but…seeing the price? I don’t think 23 years is long enough for him to save up lol
A real alexandrite changes from an emerald green to a ruby red - I saw one at the Smithsonian. The color change is caused by the light source. It looks one color under sunlight and the other color under fluorescent light. An artificial alexandrite (I have two pieces) changes from a pale purple to a pale blue.
...YES - - everyone has MOVED ON ! If you have such fond memories - there are DOZENS of episodes in the archives. It was time for a change.....not everyone feels the need to keep the same old intro.....get over it.....
@@marlynmarszalek7892 thank you for defending me 😊. I was indeed just making this comment to let Alex know that I enjoyed the little piece of Hans for the time he had it in there. Thought it was just cute, not even saying that he should put it back or anything. Just a little ‘note’ to Alex to let him know indirectly that I always try to pay attention to the little details he puts in when making videos for us🤗!
I just want to say your new house looks amazing! ...I love Melissa's style! ..you both work so hard and you have your dream home and so well deserved..I hope you will be so happy there for many years..❤
The larger stone that don’t test Diamond could be white sapphire or topaz. Still nice stones. I’m betting the two real matching bands surrounded one of the larger ones to make a set. And the oval cut stone with all the colors is mystic topaz. Great score guys! ❤️🤗
What can happen over time in some diamonds can get dirty and disrupt the tester to where they don't read as diamonds even though they might be legit diamonds because whenever I found rings that were so filthy that you wouldn't have thought they were diamonds I hadn't took a professionally cleaned and they've tested his real diamonds
I spotted the peacock right away, I thought it was beautiful too Melissa. It look’s gorgeous up there! My grandparents were married in 1932, they had wedding rings as did their parents. What my grandma & great grandma didn’t have was a set, they each had one single ring with some type of stones in them. Grandma’s was diamonds. So wedding rings have been around for over 100 years.
Some coins with errors or rare penny's and other variations not silver can be worth alot more than you think. Check out some of the coin channels on RU-vid before deciding if it's just worth face value. Miss cut bills are collectable and worth more. The steel coins from 1945 are worth a good amount. One of the coin channels has alot on those
Alexander, Must everything go to auction? I don't have a real understanding of jewelry value, but with an honest appraisal you could put a reserve on them and see how it goes . If they don't meet the reserve, then put them up for auction later. It isn't like big items etc, they take up little space in storage. You invested too much time and money on this one to leave it all to chance. Cheers, Rik
Mr. Spector, you must not be familiar with Alexander's auction history...Nearly half a million fans from around the world, from MANY different financial perspectives that compete just to 'get a piece' from Curiousity Inc's 'World of Wonder'- drives the prices INCREDIBLY above and beyond the normal rhelms of the secondary market. I myself have been a jewellery reseller for over 30years - and the prices one has to pay to win one of these jewellery treasures you see in his adventures...wellllll sir, be ASSURED..Alexander & Melissa have NO worries! Even near worthless strings of nonvalue component craft 'jewellery' from Madame Rac's, that one could not sell at a flea market or garage sale for $5, went over $100. I myself paid more for some gold pieces than I will ever admit, just to have lovely treasures from 'the story'. The world's eyes & wallets vying for singular Baubles, makes for an AMAZINGLY, UNARGUABLELY *HUGE* competitive bidding base unlike anywhere- even Christie's.🤗
@@baublesblingsneedfulthings7550 i,ve been watching them for a long tine including the auctions, but do not have your knowledge of prices in the real world Thank you for enlightening me👍 Rik
Cha Ching Cha Ching! Congrats on this fabulous load of treasure! I figured you'd come across some real valuable goodies! So happy for you! A good payoff for all your hard work!
To lovely assistant a suggestion....if you but a block , a book under the peacock it will sit higher and it's total cuteness can be seen through the glass .
If I’m remembering correctly her family owned a jewelry store. I for sure remember them saying that she worked in a jewelry store for a few years. She is quite knowledgeable in that department!
Those rings are beautiful!! I love to be a witness to you and Melissa's excitement. I am so happy that you are getting some of your money back for all of yours and your partners work in that hoarder house.
Incredible!!! Beautiful items. I like to imagine a happy couple choosing the puzzle ring set as their wedding bands. They're bound to have a very long and happy life. What you're calling mystic topaz is stunningly gorgeous. What a find! And if it's called Alexandrite and is rare and precious then it's most appropriate.
I was so disappointed with the 1st safe for you guys . I was hoping for treasure for you. The 2nd one really paid off. So happy that there was something special after all . Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
Yes, Mystic Topaz. You got a great haul in there. Even that emerald and diamond band is a good one. Color matters in emeralds. I love those earrings and matched diamond bands (I think those were guards.) ! Terrific finds!
Oh my...if you think the 1st safe was rather a bust, be glad you didn't pick mine: a card stating I'd be "arrested on sight" (for overdue library books, no less), the first letter my neice ever wrote me (pencil taped to it), first "gift" from my nephew ( a pinecone), brother's wedding invitation, risque photos from my 20's, a poem my youngest brother wrote, etc... The things I find precious aren't worth anything at auction ~ you'd have been soooo disappointed😆😅😂 Happy you & Melissa found more traditional treasures!
gold and gemstones have all increased in value - many of those older gemstones are no longer available (exhausted mines and the push to 'lab created') check the gems with a certified gemologist!
Alex and Melissa, I want to tell you I have been watching and going through the auctions with a fine tooth comb over and over. The minute I saw the peacock I just had to have it. It’s so beautiful. I’m not usually a person who buys much. I admire from afar. I was hoping that beauty would be in the last auction so I could get some money together. I had a little together to by Melissa her missing bowl. Then I saw someone had sent that already. And I knew I would need more so I’ve been selling books and art supplies and such. I was so happy to see it in your beautiful kitchen. It works perfect there. Now I can see glimpses of it every once in awhile I hope. Thank you all for making my days a bit brighter. It means so much. Stacey
In the most parasocial way I am relieved and glad that you found yourself a clothlet full of jewelry!! Also very pretty jewelry - which adds a lot of value due to wearability, even if the diamonds happen to be of poor quality. Congrats on that lovely lot!
So happy for your treasure find! The mystic topaz looked like a Tourmaline to me. They are Very pricey right now, check that out. In any case, It is so special Melissa should keep it. She could have the Topaz/Tourmaline put in another ring if she wants it more personal.
The purple-y green stone Melissa can't remember the name for is Tanzanite. Definitely a precious stone, so most likely real diamond around it. Definitely get all of them looked at because anything large but not diamond could be clear topaz, or various colors of sapphire, and there's definitely real emerald in there too!
No, I think they're right & it's mystic topaz. Tanzanite is more blue/purple with red flashes. I watched a ton of jewelry shows on TV, Lol! I have some tanzanite.
@@bonnielucas1941 Blue Tanzanite is often treated for color. Natural Tanzanite tends more towards purples, periwinkles and greens. Older Tanzanite rings are less likely to have been treated for color, so have more of the natural look. I have a few pieces that match the color of that ring exactly. One is a very similar setting. Look up 'Green Tanzanite'. That said, I do see what you mean. It *could be Mystic Topaz, but Mystic Topaz usually has a lot of pink in it from what I've seen and I saw no pink in this stone. Topaz also tends to show well in video/pictures without manipulation, whereas Tanzanite often doesn't pick up color well till unless it's on a specific background, well lit and even then sometimes can needs some manipulation depending on the stone. Honestly, better if you're right and it is Topaz, it's harder than Tanzanite and will wear better.
Congratulations on your find… Melissa is very knowledgeable in jewelry. Thanks for making these videos Alex as they have become my T.V. replacement. I am happy for your newer lives. Love the house.
I am so happy you both are being suprised by this haul of rings. You have got what most of us dreamed of being able to have when we were younger. Love watching your finds. You both make it fun. There was one ring in there that we used to call a smokey topaz gold wrap. 10-14K gold with the stone mounted. They were not cheap by any stretch. I'm talking 70's and 80's.
My grandfather was what was then called a gold and silver smith. He made all kinds of things. It gave me a love for beautiful stones and silverwork. These rings you found are very pretty. And I bet even the fake ones will sell just fine. There are plenty of people who want a big "looking diamond" on their hand. But I loved the ring with emerald the best. Gorgeous.
Alex, it's worth looking for a mint mark on the 1909 Indian-head penny. If there's an S at the bottom of the Reverse, it's fairly rare, and that's a good condition.
It pays to have a wife who used to sell jewelry; Melissa proved to be quite helpful with her gem knowledge. Alex I was surprised at how many real diamonds were discovered with your gem tester. Ok now I'll be watching the Auction when it starts; but I know there is quite a lot of inventory. So exciting for you both to come away with a good chunk of cash that you, Alex worked so hard for. Good Luck!
So glad that you found all those rings and things in tha second safe box I thought oh no not much in the first one but a good lot in the other love the way Melissa defended her ring you gave it to her its precious love watching you two go through the boxes and safe ❤️ from Australia
I only wanted one thing in the auction :-) the peacock !! I collect them for my oldest son, it is the spirit animal I bestowed on him for his 25th birthday. Enjoy Melissa, it looks great in your kitchen.
Congratulations guys!! I’m so happy for yous, the rings is some real icing on the cake, that haul was like pulling teeth to find treasures but that was nice. With that first safe I was like oh man hahah, good show ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am 69 yrs old, and worked in a bank in Atlanta GA for 25 yrs! I have never seen an Indian head penny, or knew they were minted, until you showed them! They might be worth more than you think!
Just for the record. Real ruby is about 10 x the market value of a diamond. 😆 it's not "just a ruby ring". Unlike diamonds rubies are actually worth something.
There was a smoky grey color stone, which appested to have diamonds all around it. That could be a smoky topaz or smoky grey amethyst. All the rings are very pretty. You and Melissa are so knowledgable about so many thiennegs. It is an education and a pleasure to Listen to you. ❄️❄️😀❄️❄️
I noticed your wife’s hands shake. Mine do too and my kids tease me about it a lot. I have rheumatoid arthritis and believe that is my cause, but my aunts hands shake too so it might be genetic. I’m glad there are more of us out there.
alexandrite is green to bluish green in daylight and red to purplish red in incandescent light. It doesn't have flashes or different colours. Those stones were mystic topaz.
I have a small sentry fire safe exactly like those. It’s not for monetary valuables, but life records/memorabilia to grab in case of a SoCal fire or earthquake: original birth certificate, original social security card, passport, my grandma’s hair from 1920s, my childhood hair that matched hers, a sentimental family photo, and a stick drive with all the out of date passwords of my life! Probably other things but only things I’d appreciate saving and nothing anyone would want to steal!
