Hey everyone! Glad to be back in action with what I think is my favorite Dimash video so far! It was really beautiful to see him sharing his soul and singing a Kazakh piece- and playing the dombra. We’re almost to 7k so please like and subscribe!!! There’s more great videos coming, and as always please leave your recommendations for videos in the comments!

Thanks for your wonderful reaction. Dimash loves to sing this song. He is very passionate in sharing his country, and culture with the world. He was overwhelmed with the participation of his audience, when he performed in New York. DEAR’S from all over the world gathered together this past December and surprised him, learning the word to this beautiful song so we could sing this song to him. I was blessed to be in the audience at that concert. To see and hear him sing live is a unforgettable experience. It was my dream come true. 🎼🎶🎤❤️🇺🇸

One of the most soulful and lyrical songs performed by Dimash (one of my favorite). There are also a lot of deep songs in Dimash’s repertoire, where he doesn’t demonstrate his vocal skills (War and Peace, Daididau, Samaltau), when you listen to them you don’t think about vocal, the main thing is the meaning and the lyrics themselves. Very interesting and informative video, thanks for the excellent analysis👍👍

This one is a sad one, very close to his heart. Has subtitles. And he went down in the end, in tears. This is from his solo concert, about 3 hours long. His kind of singing is also similar to Indianmusic, we too have a lot of middle eastern influence in indian music.

I think having larger vocal folds helps him. I am not expert, but I do research everything Dimash because he touches my soul. Freddie Mercury had two extra teeth that extended his vocal space, I think Dimashes large vocal folds may be very similar in effect. The mystery of Dimash is that both of his parents where musicians, his dad an instrumentalist and his mom a famous khazak opera singer, he inherited talent in his genes, further he started training at age 5 and at a young age he was pitch perfect, he is working on finishing his PhD in music, and let's say he has a natural gift from above with all the hard work and passion for his trade, we are given this phenomenon known as Dimash, and the cherry 🍒 on top is that he is such a great person, charitable, humble, loving...It just makes him all the better. Seriously I would give him a big hug of love if I could. I admire him so much, and he has brighten my life since I first happened to discover his existence. I wish more people were like him, he is a bright light in an ugly world. That's my feelings and I think not just mine but many others, he calls us Dears and I gladly and proudly accept that title.

If you watch the Gloria Wu version after the fact, the backstory with give the lyrics context. The same goes for Episode 8 "Daybreak". The vocally superior version is from Bastau, but the Gloria Wu version gives you the tragic backstory to the song. The Gloria Wu version also goes into how Dimash had lost his voice the day before having to sing, and had an injection to his throat. I thought it was Gloria Wu's intros that prevented copyright strikes. I do know however that her "Autumn Strong" is slower, and ends up a semi-tone lower. Both the Singer and Bastau versions of "Daybreak" are in E, but I guess for a vocal analysis Bastau would be better, and I suppose knowing the meaning behind the song isn't that important for that purpose. Some reactors do both the Singer and Bastau versions in one reaction. Or I guess you could always watch Gloria Wu's intro to the beginning of the song beforehand (use the "cc" button) on your own, and then react to the Bastau performance.

@@vincer9960 Gloria also furnishes some backstory for both 'Daybreak' and 'Autumn Strong' - essential viewing if you want to understand why Chinese audiences react so strongly to his performances of those songs. The backstories themselves are compelling. I'll endorse your recommendation of listening to both versions of 'Daybreak.' Dimash sick = amazing, but Dimash = healthy is a whole 'nother level.

As always, your analysis is so in depth and based on physical explanations, fascinating ! His ornamentation is closer to Farsi music, which influenced the entire region. It's a very different kind of technique to middle eastern/north african melismatic styles. The Farsi tecnique is more diaphragm oriented than laryngial, so it's harder to execute. Luv ya lots, Diva D

There is a small difference between his version from The Singer and this one. But it’s understandable: at The Singer competition his goal was to impress the audience in 5 minutes ; while here, he has to sing a 3 hours concert, so it’s different, he must spare his voice.. I’m waiting for your reaction to Ogny Pietra and Passione ☺️😃 Edit: I really don’t like the idea that you are not allowed to watch in advance a song that you are going to react to! I’m not watching your video for you’re facial expressions, to see you ,,blown away” and super impressed! (There are literally thousands of that kind of reactions to Dimash on RU-vid) No, I want to hear a pertinent and professional analysis! That’s why I highly recommend to learn about the song you’re reacting, about the story/ topic of the song and about the composer. Especially with songs like Passione which is a piece of art, that you can’t fully understand by watching just 1 time, there are just too many things happening there ! It’s like in opera, I watched Turandot or Traviata, or Aida many times; still I discover new aspects every time .

You've hooked me. I'm not any sort of vocal expert. Dimash stuns me, I know I'm hearing a virtuoso, but in my head, there isn't much to help me understand the nature of his craft. For that reason, I've sought the reactions of vocal coaches, hoping to glean better insight. And I'm making some progress! For example, I'm pretty well tuned into the nature of Dimash's use of dynamics. He has an enormous dynamic range, from breathy almost-not-singing to full belts and crazy mixes. He uses dynamics to create intense drama in his songs. He had to have gotten his sense of drama from his classical training; we sure don't hear much of it in radio-formatted pop music, which tends to be dynamically flat. Angel, you're taking me deeper down the rabbit hole, which is exactly where I want to go - explaining nuances I could not have understood alone. And you are sharing your sheer pleasure from his performances. I take delight in the sharing.

I am persuaded to avoid the long click baiting videos commenting on Dimashi who seek to make a fame under the shadow of the performer. I took the time, however, to listen to your insightful analysis. It is, as a matter of fact, the best analysis, to my musical culture and abilities, that I have heard. It worth my time, indeed. I had come to understand the sport beyond what seems to be simply expressed by means of voice and understand that it is a sport in terms of the biology, physiology and anatomy of such wonder. I was able to see through your explanations the why and how behind the modulations, switching between voices and their colors, Dimash is able and capable to pour into his arts of singing and why such control and power is given to those whom are able to seize their talent and make sense beyond our knowledge and understanding. Thus, I understand why he is a miracle to music and how challenging he has become to every singer from ethnic to classical and subcultural style of singing. From how you portray the changes of apparatus that is behind the sound I understand the training, the further training and its sport -sorry to tell it this vulgar and for the third time- that cannot be wonderfully taken advantage of it unless one is conscious of his talent and make a wonder. Therefore my idea of sport that requires to get to such sublime and wonder stage of interpretation. Thank you for your inspiring and talented analysis you are bringing to us.

Thank you for your thoughtful reaction. Daididau one of my favorites (yes, I say that about 99% of his repertoire😂). He delivers it with so much emotion, my eyes tear up every time. If I could make one request, I understand that you are analyzing the vocals and that is why you made a couple of small cuts in the performance. I would however, love to see your reactions to some of those in betweens... as a performer yourself. Those moments, for me, are part of what make him so much more than just a phenomenal singer. Just my 2 cents 😁 Also, I don't know if you noticed, but that whole performance was sung without his in ears. In the beginning they seemed to be malfunctioning or not working right, and after a couple of failed attempts at getting them to work, he scratched it and took them both out. I would be interested to know your thoughts on whether/how much that might affect a singer in such a large venue. I just thought that was interesting, and it made this performance all the more impressive for me. 😊 Thank you again, and I look forward to the next reaction! ✌❤

thanks for a nice reaction to this beautiful song. 😊 😍 ❤️ 👍 😁😋🤩 he totally owns stage and audience, he has such presence, drama and emotion and really lives his way into the role and piece that he interprets, not only vocally but also as an actor and so focused and how he leads his voice to where he wants it. perfectly vibrato full-bodied clear warm soft and strong tuning, superb dynamics, resonance staccato crescendo colorature mixed with Eastern and jojk/yodeling and melissma. so much sound colors and harmony. this is just a few things to say about Dimash and what hes able to do. everything he does seems so playful easily. and he goes as easily with glissando from the highest heights down to baritone as he walks from the bottom up. his transitions are outstanding and fascinating. incredible volume control in transitions tone changes and falcette and mix. in the Diva dance song he makes glissando from F el G 2 up to breathless falsetto tone and then over to flasholett without adding strength. not to mention his belle canto. and that he makes chiaroscuro with ease (both dark and bright combined) he can really conjure with his voice. belting over to the chest and then head and whistle and down to baritone. the name of Ogni Pietra actually is Olimpico. it would be so nice to hear him take on Nessun Dorma. have you heard "Nämner du Sverige" or "Che Gelida Manina" by Jussi? im sure uve heard him do Nessun Dorma.

You will hear this used extensively in his singing. As someone who has spent years living in the Middle East, I can assure you that a lot of melismas and techniques are attributed to arabic style that are in fact not. The makam in his rendition of Hello is a prime example. People immediately say it's Arabic when in fact it's Turkic.

Very professional and thorough analysis! You will hear more melismas in Hello and Sinful passion. You definitely wanna hear his duet of Swan goose with mongolian singer Tengri and then the very sad but beautiful kazak song Samaltau. So looking forward to your reaction of his songs in full classical singing: Olimpico and the duet with Aida Garifulina in Ulysse, the trio with Aida and Lara Fabian on Ti Amo Cosi. Greetings from a swedish Dear 🇸🇪!

Angel, about the lack of roundness of his belt in SOS - the show Singer utilized post-processing and drastic sound compression that affected high frequencies negatively, (probably by removing too much overtone - sorry I am not a sound expert). In other words it made his high belts sound a bit thin and shrill. According to people who attended the live event, his high notes sounded very round and full, and was absolutely gorgeous. Once they heard it on TV which was broadcasted several weeks later, they complained that it sounded so much worse than what they've heard live. On the Singer show, there hadn't been much complaint about the over-processing of high frequency notes before Dimash because it was very rare for Chinese singers to "belt", especially as high as Dimash does. Chinese pop songs are usually quite soft and limited in range, because singers want their songs to be easily sung in karayoke bars - the more people sing your song, the more popular your music become. The post-processing and compression of sound that Hunan TV utilized would not distort low to mid range of frequencies, where the great majority of notes reside. Dimash had appeared in a number of media events in China in between The Singer episodes and based on the fancam clips his high belts were always round and beautiful. Interestingly a year later (in 2018) when Dimash returned to The Singer stage to sing Hello (hopefully you will review it too later) they no longer used that level of post processing, and you can hear a huge difference in his high belt quality.

The whole story behind this song is very emotional. In other variants he's playing at the string instrument very professional at the beginning of the song.
