I'm mostly siding with jimmy on this one. Though he does say some hilariously ridiculous things from his emotionally invested point of view, but that's what makes it entertaining. Here's why I think Black Sabbath are great. I feel they revolutionized rock music by making songs that arent following blues chord progressions. The sound, tone and attitude created a new branch of music that started with Black Sabbath.
Randy Rhodes was a brilliant guitarist. So was Page. There are lots of great musicians of all stripes. Just leave it at that. No sense in comparing them, especially if they're different genres. For instance, Geoff Tate was a brilliant vocalist, but so was Sinatra and Garland.

lol, they're trying to get Jimmy Ranting and he doesn't realize. Norton's right though, Technically Rhodes was a better guitar player. He was a guitar teacher and knew more about guitar; scales, soloing, and techniques, than anyone else they were mentioning.
it's an entertainment show sir he says stuff to get the guys going. it really bewilders me that people dont get that it's a entertainment show and they dont always mean the stuff they say it's for laughs. they tell stories like comics they take real things and play them up to be funny. sure sometimes it dont work but they have to take chances to get pay offs. I just dont get people who dont understand how these shows work or why theyd still click on the videos of a radio show that hasn't been on for a decade just to cry about the people in them.
Yimmy is 100% spot on with radio stations. They play classic rock songs that, respectfully, are great but become horseshit to my ears when played over and over again. Edit: Unrelated but did anyone else notice the image for this video? 2 guys who appear to be laughing and having a great time while the 3rd guy looks annoyed at their frivolity.
I’ve lived in just about every part of the country over the last 20 years, and the rock stations all play the exact same things. I can go the rest of my life without hearing headstrong by Trapt.

You don’t know shit about guitar, if you think Randy Rhodes is overrated. He transposed classical music to guitar like the beginning of Diary of a Madman. Let’s not forget about CRAZY TRAIN , Flying High Again, Mr Crowley….those solos are some of the best guitar playing you’ll ever hear
Norton at his absolute worst…His argument was always just repeating bands’ lyrics with a sarcastic tone. He never got out of the “I’m 16 and I show everyone my favorite band is the best….” Childish to not respect or even be able to objectively react tomusic you don’t necessarily like.
Though his points are at times dumb beyond belief, at the core Jimmy is right. For heavy music Sabbath are without contest the most important band ever. Helter Skelter + Black Sabbath= everything that is metal and related.
Jimmy's argument boils down to ' If a band has their "hits" overplayed on classic rock radio stations then that makes that particular band overrated' since Sabbath rarely gets air-time then they are superior. It's really just an inferiority complex he's created in his head.
First of all, Ward is absolutely underrated. And, your 'Top Drummer's' list stinks if you name 3 drummers and Danny Carrey isn't one of them. Danny can do things other great drummers drool at. Edit: Best band since the 70's??? How about TOOL!?!?!
