I mean... One orc priest was bound to break their staff over someone's head eventually. And then learn that it worked great.

Priests were from the very beginning not strictly connected to the light but to their faith. Human and Dwarves follow the holy light. (light magic) Night-elves follow Elune (arcane and nature magic) Gnomes are literally called medics and have never been connected to religion. Trolls are Loa-priests that are all over the place. (nature, shadow, light) Orcs are most likely cloth-shamans that commune with the spirits only instead of all the elements. Paladins started off as Warriors of the holy light. Even when they were expanded, light was their primary source of power. (Naaru, Sunwell, An'she) Maybe we can now distance the paladins from the light and move towards the faith. Imagine an Orcish spirit-warrior. Basically the tanking-shaman that so many always wanted. Other options are Night Elves as warriors of Elune Forsaken as "desolate keepers of the faith" who stay vigilant no matter how many arrows pierce them or how much the light hurts them. Kul'tiran either as other members of the holy light or as "tide warriors" Goblins as hoarder of the almighty Moolah (hey, it blings so it's fair game) Worgens as Knights of the ful moon

Lore wise, I can see orc Paladin. The lore of the orcs in Outland before the Legion was that their brand of Shamanism was just their ancestors being able to stick around and gather into Oshu'gun. There's a Naaru in there that's been trying to heal. I can easily see a shaman, or a group of shaman, spending more and more time in Outland and getting some weird dreams. Heck, the dreams could go on for a while before realizing the dreams are important enough to got to the 'mountain' Oshu'gun. They could easily make contact with and help heal the Naaru inside. Shaman = Paladin? sounds interesting. (I think the outland Naaru are much more mild than any of the other ones we find, thanks to having watched an entire world be infected with Fel and wouldn't be eager to express their will on those around them too excessively)

I could see Eitrigg becoming a paladin, he's been around Tirion Fordring for long enough to have picked up a few tricks, and the light healed him back in "Of Blood and Honour" so he might be touched by the light already. Considering how respected he is in orcish society, it wouldn't be too big a stretch that other orcs took up that path. My jaw will drop deep when it comes to the Goblin paladin though, or Void Elves, not to forget the Pandaren, gnomes (any kind) or the Vulpera. And then there's whenever the Drachtyr gets access to all the other classes, paladins included. There's just so many races that doesn't fit the whole theme of that class.

Well, i always wanted to make a Undead Paladin, rp as a paladin of lordaeron who came back to life, looked at the light and said "Oh i'm going to serve you, one way or the other..."

Well if you think about it Orcs have been members of the Argent Crusade for years so it makes some sense that some of them may become wielders of the Light.

I don't think you need to do a lot to explain orcish paladins. They have been in contact with: the Argent/Crusade, many of the Naaru, the Blood Knights, and other organizations and beings that practice the Light. They have seen what the Light can do so it makes sense that some of them would study it.

To wield "light magic" You need a strong conviction, and tell me. What race have stronger conviction than a Orc ?

I think it makes sense. The orcs were in human custody for a time, and some of the humans could have preached about The Light, and then carried away those teachings.

I'd enjoy this. I remember the short story metzen wrote about Eitrigg and Tirion, of blood and honor, where in helping eitrigg escape execution, he was badly injured and dying, and tirion used the light to heal him, eitrigg experiencing the healing power of the light, and the surprise of it. I'd like the idea of a slow progression into orcs finding their own understand of the light, like the new orcish priest group that appeared in orgrimmar, using the power of the light for renewal

I would say orcish paladins make more sense than orcish priests, but also orcish priests leading to orcish paladins makes perfect sense. With humans, they had priests before they had paladins and the human paladin was just a human priest that also learned to fight in heavy armor in order to counter the orcish horde who, at the same time, developed the first generation of death knights from the souls of Gul'dan's shadow council and the corpses of human knights. So if orcs have priest and remain a warrior culture, they don't even need a threat to try to counter. Paladins would just be a natural result of priests + warrior culture.

A Priest is a Mage who uses light and void and wears cloth. A Paladin is a Warrior who uses light and wears plate.

with your logic human warlocks are unholy as well... orc paladins are not ridiculous at all or unholy... not everything has to have a direct source... orcs can pull their power from their ancestors, being like a spirit warrior or their own version of a paladin, it doesnt have to be an exact paladin...

you know, if were thinking about this in terms of different classes taking on different energies to do different things, we could tie this in with a future expansion feature, and add a third tree for the classes to choose, cosmological energy choices. you'd have one tree for your base class, then you'd have the specialization tree, then a third tree for energy source, say fel, arcane, death, life, light and void. I'd imagine the majority of the tree would be abilities or passive choices based on your role, so if your playing a tank, then chose arcane, then each tank spec would get a tank arcane ability. Along with this, you could also make one ability for each class based on what energy type they would draw from, like warriors who choose arcane could get their own version of mirror image to have a strike frenzy, or a like paladin could have a moonfire smite. Other than these two new abilities, you could also touch up the spell effects, no need to change animations, just give a warrior that chooses fel a green fire effect on his abilities

Orcs do not have a connection to the light. They are like the broken and lost ones who have connection to light broken because orcs were exposed to same weapon that affected draenei. It just didn't devolve orcs like the draenei.

Well, the Light and Void are reversable with one another (Light beings can turn Void, and vice-versa), and we know that the Orcs have had Void priests in their ranks going back to the days of the Stormreaver and Twilight's Hammer Clans in WCII, so TECHNICALLY it's possible for a race with Void connections and a strong warrior mentality to produce paladins. Don't worry, lore purists; just because the Orcs CAN become paladins doesn't mean that many of them WILL. I can see a few Orcs embracing the Light, but I imagine the overwhelming majority of Orcs still looking down on the Light as a "human magic".

Aren't Paladins simply the militant wing of The Light? That is difference between Priests and Paladins. Priests carry out the daily duties of the light while Paladins are like the defenders, peacekeepers etc. but all under the same umbrella of The Light? That is how I always thought of it.

personally hoping the the orc priest/paladins have more to do with them coming to follow the sunwalkers, at this point theyve been around long enough to have orcs that converted and follow the same believes as they close allies.

To this day I still thing we should have gotten undead paladins instead of Tauren ones...

the difference is not just that one is warrior and the other caster. paladins only follow and wield the light and follow a strict code, at least they are supposed to. priests wield the light, the shadow, and even moon/arcane/force magic as in discipline/nightelf/spirit-magic-thing.

Knights of Elune could be a good introduction to Kaldorei paladins, methinks.

Since they are planning to allow all Races be all the Classes in the future some Race/Classes combinations are gonna be hard to explain, for example, in my opinion Goblins are gonna be pretty hard to justify lore wise how they can be Druids (Paladins not so much since they already can be priests) since all they care about is money Also I'm actually surprised that we dont already have Night Elf Paladins since back in Legion there is a Night Elf Priest follower that becomes a Paladin in the Paladin Campaign

Yeah I can see where they going as for the maghar arc for them joining the Horde they mention an "Exarc Hellscream" and there Grom sacrificed himself for the maghar to flee. So this is a Paladin Gharros. damn.

Xe'ra didn't want to enslave Illidan, it was just the ultimate test whether he is the chosen one. If you analyze the cosmogony of WoW you will realize that it has been inspired by Hermeticism, the whole matrix of reality presented in the game has it at its core. The WoW universe is fractal, just like ours is, the rules of "as above, so below" apply there just like they do apply to our reality. Moreover, both universes are trapped in the middle point between the darkness and the light, two binary, polar opposites. There is one more feature, that should be brought to attention, each world is essentially a prison for souls. The perfect being doe not create an imperfect world, seeing the reality for what it is make you realize that the reality you live in , is in fact governed by a demiurge that uses material bodies as vessels for capturing souls.

After years of fighting against and with other classes it only makes sense for the races to begin to dabble in other forms of magic/combat. Lore-wise these more taboo race-class combinations can simply be small orders who had been taught by others. It could even be a simple as a Orc who had been fighting in the Argent Dawn against the scourge began to study how to wield the Light and returned to Orgrimmar to teach others, leading to Orcish Priests and Paladins.

We have human shamans (kul tiran), so lets have Mag'har paladins, given they already have the light bound glowing gold eyes.

I’ve always played orcs. I’m not overly keen on this shift. It dilutes the lore visually by doing this. Seeing golden angel wings pop out of orcish barbarians just feels wrong and breaks immersion for me. However, why not create unique spell/ability visuals for each race? What if orc pallys were really just shamanic guardians with the light spells changed to look more shamanic, fiery and brutish? This could also be applied to Tauren ‘sunwalkers’. If all classes are going to unlock for all races, it also begs the question of orc druids. Wolf feral and travel forms? Or will we be stuck with cat/stag?

Tbh it doesn't make sense for priests to come first - Orcs are a martial society, so a more martial class introducing a less violent one would work better. So paladins first, priests later.

The sunwalkers we're warriors not druids, those are what are now seers

The way i imegine is for them to be a holly warior of lagosh. they cam guive a nice spin amd make them more alike the zandalari.

So if I remember correctly, Orcs who were corrupted by the fel and became green were stated to be separated from the light in a similar way that the Broken Draenei were. Though there was a statement that the demonic corruption of the Orcs would fade over generations but still. I was fine with the Mag'har Orcs being able to wield light because they weren't corrupted by the fel like the green boys. The explanation would've worked from Orcs who perhaps learned how to wield the light and became holy and discipline priests while perhaps the shadow priests were connected to the Shadowmoon clan who wielded the void. I would've assumed they would've had Mag'har paladins who still believed in the light but not the fanaticism of the army of the light but we haven't gotten them yet. Overall, I think the base Orcs being able to have light classes just sounds off as someone who's been playing for nearly a decade.

Doesn't even need to be explained that much to be honest. After enough exposer to the Light and its factions, learning you can be a supersoldier by getting some light infusion is pretty tempting by most I would imagine. I think the Orcs have been exposed to the light and seen its value more than enough to justify them choosing to be Paladins in enough numbers for the players to play as them. The only class I can think of atm that would be really strange to get access by everyone would be Demon Hunters. They are a pretty specific case and the Burning Legion has been slapped enough times I don't think its justifies a massive amount of recruitment of Demon Hunters. Just seems weird. Every other class seems justifiable for one reason or another to be playable. Yes even Forsaken Druids, if you can learn to be Druid it doesn't matter what you are and death is just as much a part of Nature as life. Also their Druid forms would look dope as hell.

Characters dont create the class, lore creates the class. So by any chance, this packs up a future expansion where Light will play a huge role and on top of that, villainous. Although, can't lie, orcish priests and paladins sound kinda weird to me since i'm used to see them melee kinda,,, But hey, I can't complain, if that's what the lore says then its very understandable.

I don't think these kinds of things are crazy at all, characters are more than just their race , you cant tell a character they cant believe in the light because theyre the ''wrong race'', they are individuals that can choose what they believe in or not, or choose what skills they decide they want to train, or what magics, making all races be able to be all classes is just another step in making every character you can create their own individual person imo

I find it make complete sense in the lore after all. I know alot of people like memeing about it but considering how the Blood knights and Sunwalker have been apart of the Horde for quite sometime and there are Orcs in the argent crusade who I assume worship the light the same as the humans, I see no reason why they couldn't be Paladins. There's nothing established that would make Orcs phyiscally unable to wield the light and the only thing would be that it's not apart of their culture which is like, really? You expect me to believe that not a single Orc would be interested to learn about different types of magics or other cultures? Tons of people in the real world move to different places, try new food and assimilating to new cultures and why would Azeroth be any different? I'm really intressting to know why so many people are against it because when you really think about it, I can't find any wrong with that.

I think its makes sense that there are dfectors to both factions. Some orcs/taurnen/troll tribes that join the alliance and vice versa. Thereby learning from both factions, any class..... Its time gor my troll druid to join the alliance

Tainted green (Fel) Orcs as Paladins no way but Mag'har Orcs is a possibility as they can be Priest for reasons but their blood is pure hence the name Mag'har meaning "Uncorrupted". Honestly, Mag'har Orcs sounds no weirder than Tauren or Troll Paladins even though I'd prefer Forsaken Paladins than any of them as they make more sense lore-wise from both Vanilla, WotLK, and a couple of books.

Is there such a great leap that orcs who have revived their shamanic culture travel to one of the most important places on their homeworld (Oshu'Gun) and there recognize the light as the power of their ancestors that they gained after their deaths? with the best will I see no problem here the long part in the Chronicles of WOW: Oshu'gun: “Mountain of Spirits we learn that orc spirits were filled with light and thereby gained wisdom they did not have in life -these ancestors became an important part of the shamanistic culture of the orcs the connection to elements and ancestors was lost through gul'dan! but even worse because the light itself was in conflict with sageras... the orc couldn't use this It doesn't say anywhere that the orcs can't use it. but it has been mentioned several times that servants cannot use it. even if the demons were leashed with it the orcs have rediscovered their connection to the elements/ancestors Sageras is first defeated. Isn't it logical that the orcs visit one of their secret spiritual places Oshu'Gun. Where they learn and gain knowledge through reconnecting with their ancestors and through the shadowlands, recognizing their ancestors as light-filled spirits. what speaks against the fact that they again learn a lot from their ancestors. perhaps even a power that aided them long before Gul'dan's corruption, guiding their shamans through their ancestors to the light

Whatever out the idea of orc paladins in their minds was a deep dark and evil entity. Undead druid Belf Shaman Tauren Rogue please stop already oh my gawhd

They simply should remove class names and introduce lore-accurate race-specific titles for the class names Let the Human Paladins be Paladins. Let the Tauren be Sunwalkers, let the Belfs be Blood Knights, let the Draenei be Vindicators etc. etc. etc. etc. Maybe even change the coloring of the skill-effects so it better fits the race-lore. And bam, everything would work just fine. Because that's how it already is. If you play a Tauren Paladin, you are actually playing a Sunwalker, not a Paladin, it's just named Paladin, because Blizz just glued the class to the race without overthinking it.

@doronsmovies a priest is a strong believer of relegion, faith and light to preaching. Paladin are not Warriors they are knights of faith, law and order through meaning of the light

i dont know about you but ive always wanted to play a blood elf druid like the ones from the botanica and also maybe an orc demon hunter or an undead shaman etc

I can live with it, but they need to be their own order. Like the Tauren worship the Sun and the Zandalari their Loa, the Orcs/Mag'har Paladins/Priests should worship their Ancestors and draw their strength primarly from them. Hell it would even make sense for them to have a strong focus on honor after the horrors of the past. Like they fight for their kind not to fall again. Add a glowing axe as standard weapon(Blackrock-Fans have mercy) for Paladins and a more basic outfit for Priests and most will be happy.

If they're really gonna make all races play all classes than how are gnomes and druids gonna make sense.

Now we have Void Elves?. . wow that really makes alot of sense. . I've heard that most of the original lore staff members left blizzard, that's why wow isn't the same anymore.

The difference between Paladin and Priest is that, Priest are casters of the Holy Light while Paladins channel the Holy Light through them, enhancing their physical abilities. If you read the book on Tirion, it describes it when the light was pull out of him.

Idk. I personally don’t like the idea giving all races access to all classes. This everyone can be everything feels weird and out of place for an immersive world imo.
