Several years ago i got invited out to try my hand in videoing orca whales. the very first time I go I get a super pod. This is when all 3 pods[ families] come together some 90 + orca whales gather to feed on salmon. What they do is herd the salmon towards the tide line and this is where they feed. I think in this case the salmon were hiding under our boat and the orcas keep coming around . This all lasted in an hour or so.All of the video is from this one moment that I am told may happen a couple of time in one season. SUBER POD Enjoy
To all of you who viewed this video it humbles me that you can have this experience.One experience I did have I would like to share, I was picked to be a pool camera for news in Vancouver when one of the orcas was giving birthI at the aquarium and I was behind the viewing glass looking under her while she delivered . Seven hrs during the night it was her and I and 4 other orcas were in a separate holding tank, the music went on and on.I had just had a home birth experience just before this event took place so I am making whale sounds my self as the tears rolled dow my face.I don't have any words that could explain this experience only the orca brain understands .Now i felt birth and when I went out that first time to video orcas in the wild and this happens ,first i saw them in a distance and then they coming charging towards me like my grandchildren . I love you orcas. We know so little about their behaviour . These orcas are the Cannery in the Mine.Now oil shipments of TAR goes from 5 ships a month to 35 when the new oil line is competed.One mishap and a TAR spill in the Salish Sea will be floating around in the orcas favourite fishing area. for 100 yrs.Tides are amazingly strong and can you imagine getting a blob of tar in its breading hole good bye ORCAS.

When they come together with other local pods I believe this is also their opportunity to mate as well. The female gets pregnant by another pods son then once she is pregnant she returns to her family. They all live with their family for life. Which is rare in the animal kingdom.

Thank you for Sharing this Video. Auch wonderful and intelligent animals. I saw a Video from a sientist about Evolution and brains. The Dauphin Family ist much smarter than we are, really. Unbelievalbe, but true. They habe dialects, diden't breed with other groups which are looking different since 10.000 years. WE habe technology, they habe Echo Location and social, emotional Part 9t the brain, that WE DONT have. Amazing

In the first part they're resting and travelling as they don't sleep only rest and consciously breath. Then there's a slightly sgressive tail slap a "bugger off" slap but then they start to mill and make gentle slaps as they start to socially interact... Damn I love marine mammals.

This was footage was shot at least 12 yrs ago. It was my first time to shoot video of these wonderful whales and I been out 50 or more times since and nothing like this has ever happened. I remember one of the male whales in J pod died a couple of weeks later and I had this footage.The whale that died was the most popular of all the males his name was Evert J-16 ,that is him with his pod at the 6 min mark,you will notice him slowing down after this experience.

Wonder why it slaps its tale against the water does that mean anything?
@shoreroadmac
@shoreroadmac 3 года назад
When they were slapping their tales it was the big male J-24 Evert he was the Rudolph of that pod after that feed he was was so slow and the slapping was to keep him going that day because two weeks latter he was found dead on a beach in White Rock BC . males average age of life 28 females 69.
@dickiedollop
@dickiedollop 3 года назад
@@shoreroadmac that’s quite a big difference in age, do we know why this is is ? It was nice to watch with people being quiet, I saw one video recently with a bunch of young females swimming with a pod and one of the ladies seemed to think she could communicate making rather bizarre infantile sounds like you do with human babies , I guess anthropomorphism when humans meet mammals this clever is inevitable, I’d loved to know what the orcas thought lol
