Oregon coast trip exploring the crabbing opportunities in the bays and estuaries. We found a spot for fall salmon fishing, and perch fishing. The highlight of the day was finding a load of dungeness crabs to take home. It is the best time now to go crabbing with the months that end in "R." Enjoy the outdoors and get ya some delicious crabs.
Congrats. Winner announced for the two crab snare giveaway. Please email me at imbackfishing@gmail.com. You have 10 days from the date of this posting to contact me.

I have crabbed off the docks in nehalem bay and lincoln city. Always walked off with at least 5. Nice sizes too….

Oh man... So great! I can't believe your luck with the net and in waders!!! I have been so worried about forgetting a crab measure that I bought a few extra, tied them with some paracord, and attached a carabiner to each one end so I could clip it onto my body and to my bucket handle. I also picked up some cool thick bucket handles that snap on the metal handle that have made a big difference (comfort wise) for my long walks with a heavy bucket. Thanks for the 'shout out' during your giveaway. That's one lucky winner! I hit Garibaldi crab dock (12th St) on Monday (10/3). Two pots went in at 5:45am. High tide was at a little after 8am and only hitting 5' 10". I only got 2 keepers in just under 3 hours. Both were hard shell but coming in at just 6 to 6.5" (nowhere near what I was hoping for) still, no complaints because the day was absolutely wonderful. There was a lot of small crab each time I pulled the pots. Almost no females at all. All of the shells were hard so that is a great sign. When the sun came up, the water was clear enough that I could see a mischievous harbor seal swimming just under the surface of the water. That seal stole the fish heads I had in my pots and turned them both on their sides! I managed to get them to sit correctly on the bottom but learned a valuable lesson about sticking to chicken only in the bays and maybe using fish for jetty crab snaring. The day was so wonderful with the low fog/overcast that I opted to head north to Nehalem Bay. I went into the state park, parked near the boat ramp there, and went out to try crab hawks and a snare. I caught three small females and lots of eel grass 😂 By the looks of your video, I should have ditched my poles/snares/etc and gotten into my hip waders to go out further to just catch them by hand (since I didn't have a net). I was hoping to be on a boat in Nehalem Bay and checking that off my bucket list but sadly my friend (with the boat) was under the weather. I managed to harvest 5 gallons of some very clear bay water from Nehalem Bay and hauled it back home. I boiled up the crab in some of that water and I will never cook them any other way now. The remaining saltwater got turned into fancy sea salt for other cooking endeavors. Let me know if you want some of the sea salt or some of my smoked salt (I'd love to share since your videos have taught me so much).

I'm glad you share your stories. Sounds like you have a great time out there. I've seen seals take chicken too in Bodega Bay, CA but haven't seen them take it up in the PNW. Appreciate the offer on the salt. I might take you up on that in the near future. Thanks. 🤙🏽

Aloha, my husband and I just found your videos! So awesome, just subscribed... Didn't even know you could catch crab like that😲 We're planning a quick trip in either Aug/Sept... Last year we crabbed at Brighton Marina by boat which was Really fun! We'd love to try gathering in an estuary! What bay would you recommend we try our luck?

Hale, I just received the snares, they were probably here yesterday but my wife is afraid to drive the Ranger up to the mail box? I talked her into letting me drive today. I'm very impressed and already have a favorite. You make much better loops than I do! I will also be making my cage more like your design. For those that are not into snaring yet I would highly recommend using these snares!! Depending on your location the 8 ounce is about perfect. The 10 ounce if you have heavy surf or rip tides I can't wait to give these a toss!! Thank you very much. Gene

@@dexira7721 not a minus tide too low. You want enough water for crabs to crawl around. What works for me is .10 ft to .80 ft.

Siletz Bay in the town of Taft go 1 hour before low tide. Barview Jetty and Newport Jetty is best 1 hour before and 1 hour after peak high tide. Piers like Newport Municipal Pier, Bay Street Pier, in Newport are pretty good this time of year.

@BackFishing
@BackFishing Год назад
This area is by Tillamook. You could probably find someplace similar down south. Just look for shallow bays, sandy bottom with eel grass present. Just keep in mind, when the rain comes crabs tend to find saltier water for habitat especially when rivers flow into these bays. GL

@BackFishing
@BackFishing Год назад
@@awsomedude515 I time my outings 1 hour before a minus tide and this was mid September. The shells of the crabs were a bit soft but there were a few hard shells. Now later in the season, most of the crabs should be filled with meat in them now that we are in December. GL
