We take waffles seriously in our house ru-vid.comUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn and worked our old one through many years of Sunday brunches till it finally gave out on us. Our old one only made two at a time, this one makes four! Nicely sized 1 inch thick which are lovely! Now the kids don't have to wait as long to eat our weekly waffle breakfast and everyone's are hot if we wait and eat all together! Setting 3 seems to work perfect for golden brown. Be sure to pour the batter in the center of each waffle square, not the center of the iron like the novice that posted the scorched waffles photo. About a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of batter in each seemed to work well for us. We tested making just one at a time so we could use all the remaining batter and it made it just as fluffy and golden as when we made 4!
The cupcake Chaffle is awesome in flavor, but a little on the dry side in texture. I substituted sour Cream for the Heavy Whipping Cream and it greatly improved the texture to a cake-like texture! Thanks for this video share!
Thank you Steve I wish I could take credit for the recipe I don't know who originated it it's been passed around my Facebook group for months now. Whoever came up with it kudos to them
It’s been the one I’ve seen the most also KCCAT. Thanks Steve for doing both in a comparison vid.. Like you said, I think it’s the black vs the dark cocoa plus the instant coffee that makes the first more oreo-like. That said, I could also be down for a hostess ho ho or hostess cupcake anytime.
These looked so good, but I have learned my lesson with keto desserts. They send me down a dark path that is hard to come back from (over-eating keto desserts). I tend to stick to me savory meals, but this does look damn good!!!
I thought I was watching an unaired episode of to Catch a Predator with Chris Hansen. Your voice is spot on. Next time start with ‘please have a seat’ 🤣
One of my favorite pre-keto desserts was a Hostess Cupcake. This keto version uses no almond flour, which is high in oxalates that bind with magnesium in my body and precipitate torturous cramps in my feet. This recipe makes four multi-mini chaffles if divided evenly between the four wells, and makes a delicious snack when filled with the icing. I added a cup of ice cold "milk', which is ice water with a splash of heavy whipping cream. Thank you, Steve, for sharing KCCat5's recipe!
Right, in my case almond flour makes me have nausea and stomach cramples. So weird. I use coconut of lupin flour instead. Flavor isn't the same, but I'm happy I can have alternatives to cook in keto😊
I tried the second one. It was great! I made it tonight and I was too lazy to get out the waffle iron, so I zapped it 90 seconds and made a mug cake. Yummy cupcake texture!
Funny, I have a mug cake recipe from Mad Creations Hub that I made in my waffle maker last night 😊 I can't wait to try these chocolate chaffles. Thanks
Made the "Easier Oreo Chaffle" with my non-keto girlfriend who eats a lot of sugar and even wants to be a baker..... She loved it! I'd love to see more dessert stuff like this
I know it wouldn’t taste like an Oreo but I’m assuming you could use just the regular cocoa for a lighter chocolate taste? Wonder if you’d have to change anything about the recipe?
I just made a plain chaffle for the first time this morning--just cheese, eggs and seasonings. It was very good. I'm going to make a different chaffle each day using your recipes. Thank you.
LOL I love it when people tell people straight up doesn't matter what you call it what matters is that you're giving us a recipe thank you for being down to earth and for all your hard work I've been watching you ever since I became a diabetic like two years ago and now is when I'm starting to leave all the people that I watch messages just so you know that I watch you thank you for all your hard work!!!!!!!
Added about 1.5 tbls of chunky peanut butter to recipe #2. Cooked for 3min. Still moist like a peanut butter brownie 👍🏼 oh... and I ordered a set of the plunger whisks 👍🏼 thanks
Once again bro you nailed this video IMHO. You went straight to the recipes and the ingredients for both. I liked that you were not bias. You gave a balanced review and that's what it's about. Simplicity is your strength. Thanks.
If they ever do a movie about the life of the great radio announcer Casey Kasem, you would be the perfect choice. You sound exactly like him, and he had a great voice!
I used to read cookbooks like they were novels. The good ones anyway. For example, I learned a lot about the history of Japan that way. And "Spoonbread & Strawberry Wine is the history, thru food, of one African American family. And Fanny Farmers Cooking School Cookbook is a deep dive in cooking knowledge & lore. ANYway, I sometimes watch your videos w/a somewhat similar attitude. I don't know if I'd ever actually make, "Oreo", chaffles, but your intelligent attitude, and mellifluous voice make for interesting viewing. So thanks for the uploads.
I know this is a year old, but I just found your channel. I want to thank you! The simple version of this was the 2nd thing I made in my Dash (after the best white bread) and it was fantastic! It was so chocolatey and satisfying, that I ate one with some of the cream cheese spread on it, and I was totally happy and satisfied. Put the other two away for tomorrow. Game changer! P.S.... I purchased the whisk thru your link, and I hope you get a little something for it. I feel like I owe you!
hahaha, I love your attitude!! "... call it what you want, I don't care" (and in our house we fondly refer to you as, "that guy who knows how to take a MAN bite" ;)
I definitely want to try the second one, Hostess Cupcakes were always my favorite pre-keto! I have been missing them! Thank you for sharing this recipe!
It does have cheese! Cream cheese is a soft CHEESE. For those who can’t have cream cheese you can take Greek unflavored yogurt and salt it put in strainer with cheese cloth and set aside 24 hours. It will thicken like cream cheese and taste like cream cheese or sour cream.
I do some of my own variations of these. Because I don't like eggy taste I use egg whites. I do one with powdered milk that tastes just like white bread. The possibilities are endless. Thank you for sharing. Will try both recipes soon!
I made the easier version today and omg were they good. No eggy texture or taste! Next time I’ll probably fill them with some sugar free cool whip for dessert. So yummy!!!
I'd think this cream cheese icing has to be way better. Cool whip tastes just like shaving cream. Love redi whip, tho...it's real cream, or at least dairy.
I made the second Chaffee. I put 1 teaspoon of homemade vanilla in the batter. I made a frosting with heavy whipping cream , 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 tblsp of Yacon Syrup. I drizzled some of the Yacon syrup on the waffles with a little butter and topped it with the cream and ate with quarter cup of frozen blueberries.
You just popped up in my feed today. All I have to say is my husband is going to love you for sharing and comparing his all time favorite guilty pleasure. He is out of town on a job, but when he gets home we're going to have fun making these recipes for us both to enjoy. I did go and watch the video you linked. He will love the blueberry one too. Thank you for sharing, an I will be watching for more comparison videos.
I'm diabetic and semi new to these keto recipes....i made your cauliflower mash recipe and loved it..it will help me a lot..i miss my potatoes..lol..will try this nxt thks
I made the second one. My batter seemed really thin. The first one that I poured a whole bunch of it came out the side lol. Oops I used cacao. Next time I think I'll use a little less sweetener. I guess because I don't eat sweets anymore it was a bit overpowering. It was really good though. I ate it all lol.
Made the "simplified" Hostess style chaffle last night and they were beyond incredible! Can't wait to try the Oreo version when I can pick up some black cocoa powder.
I made the second one tonight using the mini griddle instead of mini waffle iron. Really enjoyed the texture, but the cake was way too sweet for either of us. Will try again but will cut the sweetness.
I think the griddle would be perfect for making these as ice cream sandwiches. I need to develop a filling that's somewhere between ice cream and frosting that doesn't turn rock hard when frozen (which has been the case with every keto ice cream recipe I've tried).
Wow, thank you as these were so simple to make and were absolutely delicious P.S. I used regular cocoa powder but made the Hostess Cupcake Chaffles - OMG my sweet tooth thanks you!!
This was soooo good. It really hit the sweet tooth spot! I added a little Sweet drops english toffee stevia drops to the frosting. OMG delicious! Thanks for the recipe Steve and KCCat5.
If you like chocolate and waffles, you have to try these. These waffles are fantastic. I just made them. Without icing. They are delicious. They are soft. They are chocolatey. I'm going to use these as a base to try and make other desserts.
I just made the easier recipe tonight and it was fantastic! I shared pictures and details with a keto oriented group I'm part of and they all drooled over it and swore to make their own.
The black cocoa arrived. These are truly wonderful. Well worth ordering the special cocoa powder. Go light on the frosting to enjoy the chocolate flavor
You have a great voice. I’m a new subscriber so I am enjoying your videos and information. Been low carb for many years and enjoy new recipes to mix it up. Thanks for posting.
The first recipe is really good but I feel like you forgot a couple of ingredients. I added about 2 tbsp of almond flour and 1 tsp of baking soda. I've tried both versions and my version is soo delicious it's just like chocolate oreo cake. Also I use only a half tbsp of monkfruit/erythritol blend sweetener for the batter and frosting and it comes out just fine. 😄
Did the second version. Once cooled and assembled, tasted bitter with chocolate. Not edible. Doubles the recipe. Cut cocoa in half and made it a blend of black and regular cocoa. Added extra tbsp of sweetener and 1tsp coconut flour. Made it in mini Bundt maker (cooks at lower temp, but for longer, about 8 minutes). Was a little batter left over. Came out like a dream.
I made the easy Oreo chaffle and it was a perfect sweet, easy treat that I will enjoy making when I need a delicious sweet low carb treat. Love it! Thank you for testing and sharing these recipes with us!!
I'm Glad the chaffle recipe from KCCAT5 worked out well, cause I'm Not gonna spend that much money on black cocoa powder. Thanks for the recipe and thanks for all the research you put into these recipes.
If you live in canada, at the bulk barn, the black cocoa powder costs exactly the same as the regular cocoa powder. The only cocoa powder that costs more was the premium “red” cocoa powder.
Buying black cocoa! I'm excited! I also am getting all my other Amazon things via your link! Doing what I can to support your channel! Thank you for your content!
I watched a couple of your videos at this point and I have to say that I love you! I follow a ton of keto RU-vidrs and you are no nonsense, no fluff and I love that. I hate waiting 10 minutes to get to the damn recipe! LOL I’m a new follower!
Thank you. I try to keep the recipe the "star" of the show and only talk a lot of there's a disclaimer or food science explanation I feel would be helpful.
Added 1 ounce cream cheese and another tablespoon sweetener to cupcake chaffle recipe, so it now makes 3. I just couldn't bring myself to make a CHeesewAFFLE without cheese. These make absolutely great cake layers for ice cream (well, Creami) sandwiches! Thanks so much!!
I would love a video comparing dairy free chaffle recipes, for the dairy challenged among us. Love your videos. You have a pleasant voice, and I like the pace of them. Brevity is good for simple topics. :)
I'll put that on my "to do" list, but it could be a while before I get to something like that. Given that I'm from Wisconsin, I kinda find myself having dairy as part of everything.
I recently found your channel and have been binge watching. Tonight, I made the chocolate waffles. So good! Thank you for sharing. However, I did not have any cream cheese on hand for the filling(keto party foul- tomorrow is grocery day), but I did have a bit of ricotta cheese. After mixing in sweetener and tiramisu flavoring, an amazing dessert resulted. Thank you for the inspiration and all the time/effort you put into your videos. It is much appreciated.
I love how dark the first ones were - like oreos! I'm def trying this. The mayo just adds moisture, yeah? Kind of like how my mom used to add sour cream into box cake mixes...
I made the keto oreo cookie recipe online. I used Dutch process cocoa. My husband (the oreo addict) said the exact same thing. Lol It tastes like a hostess cupcake. Smh. It was a ton of work too. I might give the chaffles a try.
The black cocoa powder really brings the Oreo flavor. However, it's kind of expensive for an ingredient that you'll only use when trying to make something Oreo flavored.
I made the "hostess cupcake" style chaffles. I thought they were delicious - non-keto girlfriend didn't like them (she either doesn't like cocoa powder or is sensitive to erythritol.) I think the cream cheese filling awfully rich - I'll probably halve the sweetener next time.
As I don't drink coffee I would not have instant granules around so I will try the second recipe. I would love to see your cupboard Steve. Like mine it must be full of all the different flours, cocoa powders, sweeteners, and flavorings that we have tried trying to find just the right one that we like and can afford and is readily available. Love your videos.
I wonder if that HoHo recipe could be used to make small cupcakes/muffins in one of those eggbites silicon forms made for air fryers. A flat, square panini press could also be used to made a thin “cake” that can be rolled up with the frosting, much like the shape of a HoHo, too. Two thumbs way up for both of these recipes!!
Been watching your channel for almost a year and just now realized your in Wisconsin. lol Waukesha south tee and your Packer’s (pot holder, I think) lol “Go Pack Go” thanks for sharing your content. It’s great
I made the Chocolate cupcake ones and they were delicious! I think I might make them with whipped cream the next time I make them. Wonderful treat. My picky husband even liked them!
