The organic classification of cotton candy is a tricky topic, and one that is easy to be confused by. We tackle the difference between certified organic and classical (or non-organic) cotton candy. First I Love your videos. thank you for sharing. so much great information. The "vegan" sugars is really complicated. What I know for sure is a lot of white organic sugars have animal bone char in them for white coloring, this would then make the sugar non-vegan. also there are a lot of dyes that are considered natural, one for instance is (red dye.) CARMINE. Which is from an insect and is considered Natural because its not man made or synthetic, you can search 'what is carmine derived from' This is just something I've learned once I went vegan. Just sharing. so no one is confused.

Not sure how it is in all states, but you can get in trouble for claiming your product is organic without certification in mine regardless of ingredients. We also have a state certification that is much more stringent than the USDA's. Sadly federal certification was actually a step down for many states individual certification that had already bin in place.

Correct, you cannot claim organic without your individual company carrying an organic certification. You usually can however claim, "made from organic sugar floss" or "all natural" etc. Thanks!

Hi there, are the natural colours and flavours that you use also certified organic? What percentage of the finished product needs to be organic in order for it to be labelled as such? Thank you.

There are different requirements depending on what type of organic certification you are applying for. An organic certifier could help answer those questions.

What about toppings? Like glitter and sprinkles? Would I need to let everyone know that those additives may not be organic?

Any additional ingredient included with your packaged cotton candy would need to be listed on your organic certification.

Your client that you mentioned that didn’t have their own certificate but came to you requesting your certificate for proof of organic. If we use the wording correctly and had your copy certificate as proof. Could that work? I guess I don’t understand why something that is already been approved would need to be approved again using the same product. I’m interested in using your product. I’m new and wanting to start a business.

Good question! So you cannot claim "organic" on your labeling, you can say "made with organic sugar floss" or something along those lines. Even though the product is exactly the same, your specific company has to certify if you want to claim organic. They come and certify your specific facility. I hope that makes sense! Yes, the product has been certified for our company, but it hasn't been for your company, it is a hard concept to understand, it took me a long time to wrap my head around it in the beginning! But, yes, you can always have a copy of our certificate and provide it to clients to show that the product you are using is certified organic, but it doesn't make your product certified if that makes sense!

When you add toppings, logos…do those also qualify as organic or do they interfere with the authenticity of the certification or do you have to only use certified organic toppings or????

Toppings will interfere with certification.
