I think since most gripes come to combat with the 400i, I'd just point out, it's the 6th fastest hull in the game, and has a large shield. It should never be fighting, it should always run away. Connie is for fighting, cos the Connie has cargo to protect. The 400i has data to collect and a rich owner to protect, it's a getaway car.

That's a fair assessment of the vehicle. And "getaway" doesn't always have to mean escaping combat or leaving the scene of a crime, it could mean a vacation too. You could just want to go find a faraway planet that has a nice place to land and set up camp and ride your hoverbike around.

having been one of the people who picked up the 400I, I actually very happy with it. Yes its not really a Connie competitor, but i think it might actually be better in exploration. It actually has a holo-table and seems that it might have a longer range. I do hate that there is no real game play currently. Edit: In the release of the Odyssey Q&A CIG stated that while most scanning (main exploration gameplay) will be done from MFDs, but any ships that have rooms dedicated to scanning will have significant buffs. "(However, ships that have dedicated rooms for specific features will have buffs to their abilities as a result.)". As the 400i has a holo table rather than just a scanning turret in the Connie Aquila it might have better buffs. Just a guess though.

I love the two vehicle garage alot I do wish the hard point for the scanner at the top of the ship could be changed out for a turret that can be slaved to the pilot also very surprised the wings don't have hover fans considering the perfect size. It would be perfect for the garage loading and make sense as well. The back size three turrets are only good for the speed of this guy but with the short ranges they really should be missile turrets

I have to agree with a few people that have brought up what a great smuggler this ship can be, and I really think we're going to see it come to life when more specific courier missions come into play, especially those that require a ship that can get the hell out quickly. It reminds me of something Lando Calrisian would fly, a swaggering scoundrel's luxury yacht by all appearances, but packs a mean retreat when it needs to!

Swaggering scoundrel's yacht - love it!
@Nemoticon

For me, the 400i is the perfect daily driver and a great environment to be in when just scootng around the system. With Exploration not being in the game, I don't expect it to have any real or current application and yet it dos a little bit of everything with reasonable competancy. I think it looks fantastic inside and out and my only gripe is that the performance is a bit sluggish, feeling heavier than it is. I swapped my MSR for the 400i and while the MSR is arguably a better ship in almost all areas, I found that I never used the MSR and yet I find myself using the 400i all the time. I have no intention in cargo hauling with it, nor doing any combat, but touring the beautiful scenery of Star Citizen in this fancy ship more than validates plenty of hours of playing time. For all other content, I have other dedicatd ships, mostly earned in game to do the job with.

@jenathan76
@jenathan76 Год назад
A year on; looking back on my experience as the owner of both the 400i and MSR, I find that the 400i gets way more use. The main reason comes down to efficiency and protection. The 400i has S3 shields and the MSR has S2. That makes a massive difference. Additionally, the 400i uses roughly 1/10 the hydrogen as the MSR when comparing stock performance. It can stay out much longer, and is much cheaper to refuel. It quickly became my daily driver, and is my go-to mission runner, too. The introduction of the Mule and STV were huge boons to the 400, as they both fit comfortably in the hold. I also found that the X1 garage is also an ideal place to store mission boxes and questionable passengers.

I like the 400i a lot. The interior design is great, it's comfortably sized and it looks beautiful. In the looks department, I think it and the exterior design of the 100i should be the gold standard for all future origin ships. Regarding handling and costs, well you might be right about that. It's still a great ship, but if you're the kind of person where bang for your buck is a priority then the 400i probably isn't for you.

@@Farrister I do actually, while the 100, 300, and 600 series' all look like true space ships or even aircraft in the smaller lineups. The 400i to me looks and feels like a space yacht more akin to a sea vessel than an airplane. the pointed nose and the front gear helps sell the yacht feel by visualizing a true yacht bow section and it creates an interesting visual. Bought the ship, flew it a couple of days before upgrading to the 600i. ddowngraded back just for simple practical reasons. Someday this will be an amazing solo or heist ship. You'll be able to setup the remote turrets as automated point defense with the computer blades. Eventually there will be strong reasons for needing ground vehicles, like when preforming a theft/heist, or when you need to grab and store some special exotic plants in your backpack and at that time the bike bay will really start to shine. Still they need to fix the landing gear/cargo elevator such that when the cargo elevator is down, the ship hydraulically rises up a bit higher, to accommodate slightly larger ground vehicles.

No mention of the *cooled* component rooms and the clues CIG have made about Pyro solar flares and heat damage to ship components. In the component rooms you have the coolers, life support, computer and shields. Heat damage / solar flares / component degradation might not be in the game yet, but it's something to keep in mind for when Pyro finally arrives. I believe the 400i will come into its own when we get Pyro and it will have unique benefits for this system and other unstable stars. The X-1 also looks like it might have protection from the elements - having an semi-enclosed canopy for the rider.

It's not in-game, so I can't really say if it's good, bad, or even ever going to happen!
@wiggyone

@@Farrister Aye that's fair. I wracked my brain trying to think of why the components would be cooled by another system (instead of just the standard coolers), and it's the only thing I can think of. I'm reading a bit into what they showed us at CitCon and their plans for the Pyro dying star... I should have worded my above post a little differently though - didn't mean for it to seem accusatory or critical. The cooled component rooms are a bit of a mystery right now without an official explanation - also 3 power plants and 3 coolers - that can't be a coincidence, right?

Farrister, old friend, you hit many a mark like you usually do but went wide this time a bit also in my opinion. The 400i has served well in my services with its performance features aligned with my needs. Fast, tough courier and all-around touring. I regularly put the Nox up in the garage to go cave diving (radar picks up hand minesbles you know) or space wreck investigations. The Cyclone RN (or other Cyclone) can be put in the cargo bay [by one person WITHOUT getting out of the Cyclone, and will be useful with navigation beacon laying later. AND you can still get 12 SCU of cargo inside. The future importance of the airlock/docking collar, front armory, and entry hatch together is great and the overall feel and efficiency is sublime. The ship, especially with 2 friends, can run from nearly any conflict it wishes and set the table well for escape like you alluded to in your video. It has ample room to be a comfortable courier and touring ship, making the jobs enjoyable. And I love the yacht/schooners nose myself too. 😃 Combat and Cargo are not the only things people enjoy in the Verse and I am one of those people. I can do those (cargo more than combat) but the 400i is perfect for what I normally do. And the missile launch system is awesome to watch internally.

It's also worth noting that the climate controlled rooms on the lower deck really are climate controlled! You can see your temp drop to 3 degrees when you step in them. Now, why they needed those climate control rooms, I'll never know. I would have preferred a sitting area or something along those lines. But still neat to have them be actually climate controlled.
@Jandl009
@Jandl009 2 года назад
I'm theorizing that the climate-controlled rooms will help prevent overheating of the components and perhaps reduce wear and degradation. This would be important on an explorer with limited space for replacements. Perhaps it will even be needed for running overclocked components.

I switched out my Constellation Aquila for a 400i and I haven't looked back, but you did note something VERY worth discussing in the comparison: While on the surface this ship seems to suffer from a certain lack of versatility, I'm never, ever going to use it for many of the side gigs you mention. It's my go-to ship right now, and has been since I got it, since I like to hop between planets a lot and carry a decent amount of kit with me when I do. For interplanetary hops and moving from one theater of operations to another, it's perfect -- but that's it. It allows me to enjoy getting where I'm going without refueling or having to really concern myself with getting jumped. For everything else, though, I have something better and more well-suited to the other roles at my destination, whether it's hauling, combat, mining, or the like. This isn't a ship you buy for versatility. As an "only ship", it's a terrible choice. But few ships get you where you're going more safely and comfortably. My biggest nitpicks: The 400i has poor forward-low visibility, as you noted. But even worse, the needle-nose design also makes it very difficult to gauge where the front of the ship is compared to the environs you're landing at. It's also got an obnoxiously large footprint, which means you need a big stretch of flat ground to set down. IT's not as bad as the MSR (the Mercury's landing footprint is actually larger than the ship itself!), but it's nowhere nearly as easy to set down as a Constellation. In the secondary-usefulness department, the bike garage at the front might also be a very nice dedicated space for mission boxes, small containers, and looted items . Placing them there saves some time and doesn't expose your ship interior to stowaways, and might allow you to carry them without them taking up cargo or internal space. I'll have to do some tests and see if those containers behave when going up and down the lift - I know in some other ships, like the 300 series, mission boxes really dislike being put in the cargo space.

I picked up the 400i and Agree with other commenters, it is not a connie replacement or remotely a competitor. The 400i is decently fast and armed 'well enough' explorer ship. If it had game play it would be worth taking out of the hanger...but until it does it will be sidelined for more useful ships.

I have one and enjoy it for the solo 'role playing' experience it provides. Its a great exploration ship with all its amenities and ability to travel great distances. The extra space for a small ground vehicle is perfect for the exploration aspect which will allow to quickly explore areas too small to get your ship into. It has a nice size cargo area for collecting groovy treasure you might find, retrieval quests or just supplies you'll need for an extended journey. When I imagine all the things that I want this great space opera called star citizen to be the 400i fits perfectly. I have the 400i, MSR and Connie Andromeda. I find myself flying the 400i instead most of the time. I really enjoy flying the ship and its just a better design. Its easier to get in and out of the ship unlike the MSR that you have to run through several rooms to get back to the cockpit. The elevator is quick compared to the slow elevator of the Connie. The ship has really grow on me after flying it for a while and now prefer it over the MSR and Connie. All three are great versatile ships, but I prefer the 400i as my go to A to B traveler

Agreed its personal preference mostly. I got trapped outside my MSR (full load Agricium cargo lost) by a bug that the ramp door would not open. Never happened with the 400i. Ive had a few instances when one of the 400i doors wouldn't open, but each time the other door (elevator/ramp) was able to open. MSR is fantastic ship and even more versatile than the 400i, but for my daily driver I don't want hassles lol so 400i it is. also running through the MSR is tedious. that quick elevator in 400i is such a pleasure

This is the only Origin ship I own. I like it for it's beautiful design. It could be about 10 percent bigger or have more space without the gravity generator and glass between the garage and habitation area and the holographic table takes up too much space. It does not do anything great, but the large shield is nice and mine has all upgraded components. It is the only medium ship I currently own after shuffling my small fleet to get three large ships. I had a Taurus, which, if I could only have one ship, i would own, because it carries the most cargo, missles, best weapons for its size. But there is something about this ship that I like. Not over the top, but just feels nice to be inside and to fly.

I'm into Exploration class ships. I've owned an Origin 315p, a MISC Freelancer DUR and the Origin 600i Explorer but melted them. I currently own the Origin 400i (replacing the DUR), a Drake Corsair (not a real explorer but a gunship), a Carrack Expedition and a MISC Endeavor. I never bothered spending money on the Anvil Terrapin, the Aopoa Khartu-al or the RSI Constellation Aquila though I have two of the these three in my hanger as loaners so I'm familiar with them. As I mentioned, I swapped out my DUR for the 400i. If you look at the ship stats carefully, you'll see that the 400i does not really compare well to the Connies and the MSR in size/mass. The length is artificially enhanced with the long nose so it compares to the 55-60 meter group of ships like the Drake Corsair, the RSI Constellations, the Crusader Mercury Starrunner and the Galtac Railen. Cut that nose back some and you see the ship should really be compared with the 40 meter group like the Drake Cutlasses, the Aegis Vanguards, the MISC Freelancers like the DUR and the new Argo RAFT. Looking at that group of starter multicrew ships it fits in much better with regard to the number of crew, number of weapons, speed, cargo, etc. When compared to the latter group the ship begins to look good except for the "luxury tax" that is applied. What we won't know until Exploration is in the game is how much of a game changer the presence of the cartography table and sensor suite will make the difference between the DUR, the 400i and the Aquila. I'm thinking that it will give the 400i an advantage over the other two Exploration class ships. Now, if you aren't into Exploration, why buy a 400i? For the money buy the Mercury Starrunner as the MSR is an all round better ship with nearly three times the cargo capacity of the 400i. In my view the "luxury" of the MSR is equal or better than the 400i's. However, they fit into different roles. If in a rework the nose bike storage bay of the 400i was given cargo grids (like CIG bowing to the Valkyrie fans did) then the 400i's usefulness as a fast smuggler might be increased. I would love to see that bike bay be more useful.

I plan on this being my quiet time solo ship/daily driver. I'll grab an NPC and use voice commands, and he can man a turret if need be...but generally I'll probably run away if I'm not in the mood for conflict. I like that it's fast and has great range. It'll be all I need to fly around space and planets to find points of interest (caves, camps, derelict ships), and then solo my way on the X1 Force (the pathfinder variant that has an extra shield). These will be little missions to collect plants and artifacts, or salvaging derelicts.....so really the ship's purpose is just to get me from A to B safely. It has plenty of room in the cargo hold for these needs. If the POI is significant enough, I'll return with 600/Carrack/Reclaimer hopefully in co-op. I do wish the bike could hold a 2nd player and cargo like the Dragonfly. I'll just have to rely on a back pack.

This is Origin's most successful design to date in my humble opinion. I'd be happy to own it. All Origin ships are just off being excellent ships, missing one or several things that would push them past the competition for no reason that I can come up with other than designers believing that "Luxury by definition, is wasteful". I really wish that CIG would drop that philosophy, it is extremely annoying in their ship designs to have the space to put the missing components in, but they chose to have a bigger space, or they mix common and technical areas of their ships. Hopefully it changes in the gold standard pass. I'd personally love to switch the Origin logo and the top turret. The turret should easily be able to lay flat along the roof and it would be far more useful to line up with the pilot's guns. The interior is largely successful until you get to the cargo bay and I like you I wish the elevator was bigger and that there would be cargo storage that could be stacked along the back wall instead of the feature light.

The front landing strut is the best part about the design. It looks like the Adastra Yacht. Origin is a luxurious ship company that basically designs luxurious space yachts. It also reminds me of the classic long hood muscle/luxury cars like the Zimmer Golden Spirit or a classic Rolls Royce. Slimming it down would just make it look pretty awkward and basic. It also seems like you’re expecting far too much practicality over a luxury ship…. There’s plenty of cheaper, ragged and tougher practical ships in the same class. If u want a practical car irl you buy a pickup truck or an SUV not a Lamborghini. This ship is clearly designed for comfort and aesthetics over practicality and combat ability. And you treat that as if it’s a negative, as if that’s not the design by choice.

Not even close. In fact if you added x2 S5's on the 400i you would end up with 1516 dps total, being still 1000 dps behind. These ships cost the same and are direct competitors, both being explorers. The Andromeda is an actual competitor to the Corsair, it lacks dps but it gains with the snub fighter and missiles, managing to have some really close fights and even winning some, the 400i loses on all fronts when it comes to combat and even for cargo it's at a disadvantage. Good review of a cool ship. Though I am in the camp of complainers about its combat ability. I don't even want it to be a combat ship they could do a bounty hunting variant 425a for that but as it is in game currently is it one of the most out of balance ships in the negative side. It is a large sized ship that can only apply starter/light fighter ship gun firepower. It has a large shield because its a large ship and as a bigger target it should have a large shield. But its fast and can get away? In a game where you evade combat and get away by using your quantum drive in which your better off in an aurora because its a smaller target while having better evasive maneuvers due to its size and handling. What other ship in the game requires 3 people crewing it in order to lay down saber gun firepower but only if you fly it backwards and keep the target behind you. Which its speed comes from the main so the ships biggest strength cant even be used with its biggest application of firepower. But it has a lot of missiles? 16x strike force 2 and 16 marksman 1. Both class 1 and 2, a freelancer and a cutlass mid sized ships both come with class 3 missiles. In Erkul I can change the missile racks around on a freelancer to have 16x strike force 2 and 16x marksman 1's matching the 400i missile load out in a mid sized ship that is slightly less of a target. The cutlass black you can have an even larger load out of class 1 and 2 missiles. So you can run fixed size 4 weapons on a ship that is a larger target that don't handle as well as a talon which has the same gun load out. The missile load out is matched or beaten outright by mid sized ships one even being a DUR exploration ship. It does have turrets but neither overlap the pilots weapons and they only overlap each other requiring a crew of 3 flying the ship backwards negating its biggest strength so it can apply the damage of a saber. At least even the MSR with 2 crew can apply that amount of damage while using its main thruster. The ships main strength is negated by quantum drive except for a small handful of scenarios. A ship that in its q&a was said to be a constellation competitor that don't even really compete with a freelancer. How can anyone be good with that? Now for the 425a bounty hunting variant. Change the class 4's to class 5's so then you can equip some guns that would be better for going after larger ships, give it a splitter option like the freelancer has so instead of 2 fixed class 5's you could alternately run 4x class 3's which you could setup for chasing smaller ships. Convert the x1 bay into a drop down prisoner cell which would be secure as its isolated from the crew for the most dangerous of criminals and then use the cargo bay for a mobile bounty hunting specific vehicle for collecting planet side bounty's and hauling them back to the ship. Then put some coffee and donuts out on the counter up top as your good to go. Alternately you could design a cool bounty hunting style x-1 and use the cargo bay as cell for prisoners. It even makes sense lore wise since the advocacy has already worked with Orgin to create interceptor squadrons based on the m50 and the bounty hunting friendly 325a. Plus what is the next ship step up from a cutlass blue for bounty hunting? An Andromeda? It is a gunship more than a bounty hunting ship.

I adore this ship inside and out, I've never owned a 600i but I've spent a fair bit of time in them and they just feel...wrong, the explorer variant feels like it's having an identity crisis with the sterile, utilitarian room in the middle contrasting the luxury aesthetic of the rest of the ship, on top of that there's a lot of wasted space in it and most of the seats are too far from the tables to be comfortable, the 600 has all the features I'd want in a ship for my solo style, but the interior is super jank, the 400 for me is the perfect origin ship, sure it's not as impressive in terms of actual utility, it's a lot less costly and to be frank, to me it feels like home, it's less of a party boat but more of a mobile home and there's no ship I'd rather fly around in, and I don't just mean origin ships, I mean in general, but that's personal taste, I'm looking forward to the 600 interior rework, but I think I'll be flying my 400i for a long long time

To be honest I think the 400i is by far my most favourite daily driver, only because of its looks, as it's the ship I'm going to be in for the most amount of time in one go or when traveling. Although I would really like to see some variants, like the 300 sereies, where I would keep the 400i as base and explorer variant but add a cargo and combat variant. I think the ship would actually benefit a lot from that, as the "all in one" aproache is honestly just not working in my opinion. In the end those ships are always overall "ok" but are only beeing used to travel from point A to B as there are just many other ships, who are specified, that will always outclass the ship in its respective role. Which I actually find pretty sad as they're often great designed ships who just get overlooked often in the end.

Assuming they fix the rear cargo to at least fit a ROC I think it's fine mostly, looks like 3.16 is on the way now so it should be available in game soon to buy, haven't checked the price though.

Yeah, if it could carry a ROC again, that would be a nice buff

In the event that ground vehicle play gets reworked in a way that incentives use of the X1, would you say that that front bay it's worth having?

I own a 400i, and I'm struck by the fact I don't use it at all! It seems to suck at everything. Can't do bounties because its DPS it's a joke. Can't do cargo hauling, 40 SCU is a huge joke. Can't do mining, because you can't even fit a ROC inside without having a heart attack. So what you use this thing for? When I need a sexy ship to make a quick trip, I use my 315P which is very sexy, can take me everywhere, have the same dual size 3 guns, and I can spawn in under 3 minutes. When I need some serious fire power, style, or range, I spawn my 600i Explorer, and if I need a cargo ship, then I spawn any of my dedicated cargo haulers, all of which make the 400i useless at that job. Which makes me wonder for what exactly do I have the 400i for? I'm tempted to upgrade it to a Phoenix, the ship has the niche as a touring ship as the 400i, but with the exception that being a Connie it can actually kick some ass in the bounties.

Hopefully in the future it becomes more useful. I love the internals!

I have to disagree with 10:50, the strut at the front is what completes it the space yacht look and feel, besides that it gives it a more unique look instead of yet another phallic shaped ship.

And we can agree to disagree! One of my favourite things about the way this game is framed up is there's huge room for personal choice and preference - and that's what adds to the wonderful variety of the 'Verse!

@@Farrister oh yes definitely, there's ship tastes and looks for everyone, some of the ships I own like the gladius are easily outperformed by others such as the hornet heartseeker, but their looks just do it, similar situation with the scorpius, you could just get a hurrican, but who doesn't want a x-wing fighter?

I picked it up because it fits my preferred ship fantasy more readily than the more expensive 600i. The Constellation series is inarguably better at literally everything the 400i does, with the in my opinion important exception of being a space for living. That said, as much as I believe the 400i to be 'just enough' for everything it does, I do agree the price point is really hard to justify, especially when it doesn't even come with the X1-Force included.

Love the 400i, it's designed really well and lookes awesome inside and out... buuuut as a Carrack owner, it's pretty pointless lol. Upgraded it for a Caterpiller... with a Caterpillar > Endeavor CCU... However, I will be buying the 400i in game.

I'm playing with the idea of using the Connie Taurus that I won to swap to the 400i for like $60, and then using my Dragonfly to swap to the X1. Haven't decided, but they're options. The connie is very.. how to say.. long and thin to move around inside of? But the vehicle bay is, of course, far superior to the 400i's. Eh, I don't know. Time will tell, I suppose. There's no rush.

No rush to decide, I imagine! You can always buy ships in-game too
