What is the best version? They are all pretty good. The most crying-scene in my childhood where Luke takes Vader's helmet off just to see his father. And the emperor isn't dead. ^^
Tough call, when there are many versions, part of it might come down to personal preference. Worth keeping in mind what the versions are, who made them, and what for. My personal fav, one that doesn't get enough attention is the OTD83 version. He used as much of the 4k blu-ray as possible, but some shots of the 4k83 film versions and worked on them to make it consistent while removing special edition changes but leaving in extremely minor fixes. It looks absolutely fantastic.
Seriously, not only does he get to hang out in the Jedi Ghost town, but thanks to the special edition, he gets to be young again! Some reward for slaughtering all those Jedi.

I agree, in fact as a kid I used be scared to watch this scene because of how his face looked, but that was a long time ago, and now I can see why I felt the way I felt as a kid, but yeah definitely looks less creepy in the special editions.
This is 40 years later. What i've learned from "Star Wars: Episode 3" is that Anakin was villainized by the Villain Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sideous) and later became the 1977 Darth Vader and the Villain Darth Vader said to Emperor Palpatine that is his wife ok and the Villainous Emperor said that she passed away. 1977 Darth Vader became angry at what the villain Emperor Palpatine heard.
@@samuel-wankenobi having never seen the originals in theaters, I'm just not that much of a purist. But I'm glad those versions exist for the sake of those fans.
@@samuel-wankenobi Not really. Yes, these are the theatrical prints, but they are yet to be color graded. Mike Verta did the best job in terms of colors, you shoud check him out.
1.2 had DNR as the 'default' version whereas 1.1 didn't (you can't see the difference in RU-vid potatovision). Also different colour correction (slightly noticeable in Luke's skintone around 1:25).
Yeah well they all get compressed in the same manner so it may not look like the full download you can atleast see the key differences in each version which is the whole point of the video.
@@DropsTheMike If I was to buy a version of StarWars based on one of this 4 - I would so much choose the Special Edition Blu-ray from 2011! It has the most details in the image and colours! Was that the point?
@@chrisbenn Chris bud I'd recommend looking further into the special edition changes. it's not just lighting and contrast/saturation which has changed, but actual edits of the movie which are distracting at best and make the movie near unwatchable at worst. this video was not pointless, but rather is informative for anyone deciding between harmy's or 4k83 to have a viewing of the original, unbutchered star wars trilogy
@@hikkikimori Hehe one-year-old post! :D Nice it is still "alive"! How is it informative? I believe you when you say "...it's not just lighting and contrast/saturation which has changed..." but I do not get that from this youtube video! I notice lighting and contrast/saturation looks super wrong as the first thing and "Discards" that version after 3 seconds in my head! ANd that is how it is with film and an audience! So if you are right, this video is not only pointless but also "misleading"! Because what you are saying is not conveyed to me thought that youtube video!
@@chrisbenn i'm not sure i understand. in this video, all 4 versions of this film look slightly different, yes. it's really personal preference which colour grading you prefer. i like the warm 80's hues of harmy's despecialized personally, but to each their own. one of those aforementioned special edition changes would be the removal of anakin's eyebrows in the blu ray. as you can tell, the film has been edited over time. most people watch either harmy's despecialized or 4k83 to watch the film in its original, unedited version. the eyebrow change is a minor one but i would suggest watching another one of the author's videos that compares the jabba palace performance song. the special edition absolutely destroyed that scene. i'm not sure what about this video is misleading?
