Hello my friends!
Here i am again, with a new video!!
I recently bought a really nice example of an original German WW2 M42 Wehrmacht Tunic, and i just had to share this piece of History with you!
Everything on the tunic is 100% original.. and.. i had to wear it, just for the experience, and to make a picture.. can't get any closer to History, then actually being inside it!
I hope you enjoy the video!! :)

There's 1 mistake in the video, I accidentally said Feldwebel, but I meant Unteroffizier.

@@DiddyBom Thanks for asking. I do not currently sell any of my projects. I've only sewn historic clothing for family members and my personal wardrobe (yes, I wear Victorian clothing on a daily basis...). Historic Sewing is more of a hobby while I expand my sewing skills and experience, but I am actively trying to make historic sewing and reenactment/living history a professional part of my life, so we'll have to wait and see what comes of it (fingers crossed). This is a bit beyond my current experience level, but whenever I see Nick's uniforms I always look at them and try to figure out how they're made. So, maybe someday???

The rank is "Unteroffizier", not "Feldfebel"
@TJRookwood
@TJRookwood 3 года назад
@Evan Munoz Check the timing 2:21 - this silver stripe on the collar means you have an NCO in front of you. 2:27 - on the shoulder boards you have the same silver stripe applied as on the collar. In this case silver stripe goes arround the shoulder board, but leaves one side open, which indicates the lowest NCO rank "Unteroffizier". If the silver stripe goes all the way arround the shoulder board - thats an "Unterfeldfebel". NCOs of the higher ranks have silver pins on the shoulder boards. One pin - "Feldfebel", two - "Oberfeldfebel" and so on. If you need it more detailed just google it, there are a lot of resources for the german uniforms.

Hello Nick. Gosh, you are really cool and everything you do is very interesting! Ich komme aus Ukraine, und ich liebe Deutschland!:) I'm learning German right now, because it will be a foreign language in my University next year. I am listening some German songs and watching some cartoons (Biene Maja, ahah:)) I would love to visit Germany someday in the future, I will be studying in Warsaw, Poland, which is close to Germany. I saw many of your videos, and it seems like you have a cool museum with various World War 2 things. It would be so cool to have an opportunity to visit you and see it all in reality. I understand that you are probably not sharing your location, it's a private information, so that's okay. I don't even know when I will have a time to go to Germany, probably 2022-23, but I have a lot of plans for this beautiful country. God bless you, and thank you for that video where you found an old man who lost some things a few years ago, it was very beautiful and touching. Danke

Beautiful tunic. I’ve been looking for an original German tunic. So far all I’ve found is a us army dress uniform coat with a production date of 1942. I found it in a small family owned antique shop. It fit me perfectly and was near mint so I knew I HAD to have it. No patches or insignia so I believe it’s surplus. I got it dry-cleaned to get the musty attic smell off of it and now I wear it to church and when I go out on dates. It looks quite dapper.

Some friend of my late Grandfather gave him a complete American uniform from the Spanish American War. My sister now has a Samurai Sword brought back by and Uncle who was in the Marine Corps fighting in the Pacific during WWII. It's very sad that as these items are passed down to relatives that some of the history of the items is lost.For instance years from now someone will have that Samurai Sword,and it will become just some old sword from who knows when or where.

Hello! Recently I have been looking into specific areas of interest from during the war. I came to find German Killed In action Cards, which, as awesome as they look, are very sad. That got me thinking, how did German people find out about family missing in action? And if the German families lived abroad, for example in occupied France, how would they learn about their loved one going missing? I've been trying to find out, but I can find nothing anywhere, and when I do find something, it is usually in German, which I dont speak. I would love some pointers if anyone has any! Thank you loads :) Also, I'm amazed at the quality of the tunic, the fact that it has hardly faded at all is so cool!

@Lego Dude #9 oh, that's interesting to see the two different routes the tags can go. Thanks!
@worldwarwill1278
@worldwarwill1278 3 года назад
Yes, the German death card. They are also known Sterbebild, Sterbebilde or Totenzettel. These are little cards given out at funerals, funeral services or remembrance services for mourners to take away, these would have also been given out by families of soldiers who were missing in action or killed far from home (they are still given out today). But these were also given out at funerals for civilians, for example you will often see death cards to civilians who were killed in air raids ‘Gefallen terror angriff’. As for the families receiving news and to expand on Lego dudes excellent comment - The Germans were very meticulous at recording information. Now this is very basic information on how it was done. Every German male would receive a document called a Wehrpass when he was conscripted and a document called a Soldbuch and dog tag when he entered the armed forces. The Wehrpass (which was kept by his unit) would contain detailed information about the soldier, including place of birth, next of kin, units, training, weapons training, dog tag number etc. The Soldbuch contained similar information but was carried by he soldier at all times. So if a soldier was killed in action his comrades would snap his dog tag in two. This was done so half the dog tag stayed with the body for identification purposes later on, eg for graves registration, and the other half would be handed in to his unit, so the death could be recorded by the company clerk. But this wasn’t always possible, so there are a few different ways that dead, or missing soldiers were categorised. You can have gefallen (killed in action), vermisst (missing), gestorben (died) or tödlich unfall (fatal accident)... If it was a clear cut case that the soldier was dead, this was recorded by his unit and sent up the chain of command until the information was received by the office he was recruited at. An official letter would be sent to his next of kin telling them the sad news. Along with this the company commander or person in charge of his unit would often send any personal belongs and write a letter to the family. These letters are often set out in the same format and will hide the true cause of death. Here’s a typical example of how a letter would be written. Hello/greetings to Mr and Mrs...... Your son, .......... who was a much loved and brave soldier has died a hero’s death for Germany. He did not suffer because he was killed instantly by a gunshot to the head, while fighting against overwhelming odds... His actions saved the lives of many of his comrades on this day, he will not be forgotten. If the soldier was missing, or wounded and in hospital an official letter would also be sent out to the family. I have one of these official letters to a soldier who went missing while on leave in German (possibly he was a deserter). Sorry for the essay lol, but if I can help with anything else let me know.

Thanks, I appreciate that, but I’m not really that smart lol... I’ve just collected German documents for a long time, so have picked up some ticks along the way. I’m not always right, but I help when I can and ask for help when I need to. Thanks again.

My dad had an original kar98k, but it was not recommended to fire it because it was apparently made in a labor factory. My dad sold it when he was young, and he never forgave himself.

You should review of the Finnish M40-55 Helmet from International Military Antiques, I have two of them. I modified one into Normandy camouflage and a half-basket helmet.

Nice tunic, fun fact the Tresse on the shoulderboards is reissued Luftwaffe. Also the jacket was upgraded with the dark green ‘fashion’ look instead of the plain feldgrau collar.

Nice find! Though featured in previous videos, I love your dewat weapons. Had a chance to buy a firing MG42 and passed on it, now it is way too expensive! I do have a Thompson Model 1928 Navy, lots of fun to shoot!

Totally know what you mean about fellow reenactors wearing original kit! To be honest I used to be one of them but I'm now replacing all my "field" kit with reproduction and keeping the original safe at home

3:00 Pink is not armoured. Its for the Panzertruppe The tunic is very interesting. A blueish-black (its looking like this colour in the cam) collar and shoulderboards on a M43. Nice video! Edit: or do you say in English to the Panzertruppe, armoured?
