This holding value nonsense is going to ruin the watch market. Buy for love not for value. If you're concerned about resale value, surely you are buying the wrong watch in the first place.
JamesBardolphCS if you’re concerned about resale value you buy second hand a save 40-50%. It’s something to be aware of and it is important because many buyers may want to sell on in the future whether they intend to or not.
Alexander Vic I’ve got an Oris watch , I bought it pre owned at a much reduced price and I am impressed by the quality and robustness of the watch. I own other brands and I am not in the market for a $7500 Oris I admit, but I’d stop short “some way short”, actually of ever describing the brand as garbage. Bremont also gets it in the neck from you in your comments & whilst I will concede it’s not a brand I do or am ever likely to consider purchasing, I wouldn’t call it garbage either, if we’re going to have a handful of brands that are deemed acceptable & the fifty or so companies beneath them marked down as rubbish then watch appreciation & innovation of horology is doomed Alexander. It’s not that I don’t think garbage exists, it’s that Oris aren’t that , it’s not escaped me that in life there are people who like to look down on others & take a shit on them if the perceive that their watch choices mark them out as the “lesser”, but it’s that mindset that really is garbage............not Oris.
Alexander Vic thanks for calling a spade a spade. This is an expensive watch launched by a sub par company - it’s almost Rolex money!! Absolutely incredible. The movement isn’t even in house and the 10 day power reserve is crap - for the last two days of that its +4/-6 a day!! Wtf
I appreciate how you can give an honest review even when you receive a free round trip ticket to an awesome event. This is how the channel will grow and why people will trust/respect what you do. Good luck!
Interesting final few points from Adrian: - If Oris can come out with a BB58 competitor - Improve accuracy to be COSC certified - Reduce price Then Oris may have a winner… Now in April-2022 the 39mm Propilot X is released, checking off all the boxes! Hopefully you get a chance to share your thoughts on the updated version
Yes I agree with you there, the brand doesn’t offer value retention for the first owner but it offers a hell of a lot of watch to the second owner for the money, I own one & my experience of it wouldn’t hamper Mervin buying another.
I have seen and held it in person and can tell you this watch does not look or feel cheap. To compare it to a seiko is just ludicrous. Btw, for its size it actually wears very small.
Megatron wants his watch back. It's gorgeous... absolutely gorgeous. But at $7k, it's in the big boy league. You can pick up a second hand sub for similar price and it will hold its value for many years, whereas this might not. Oris 65 holds its value well. It's one watch that surprised everyone, and a nice little investment. I just hope this does the same as the 65. But it's sharp angles might not be to everyone's tastes.
Personally i love how the clasp grows in size again, from the tapered down bracelet. The looseness of the bracelet is concerning, but has to be experienced in person. To me it really looks like a concept drawing fearlessly executed.
Wait a second, +6 and -4 is the exact cosc standard. So it technically IS a cosc standard! Great piece. Clasp reminds me of an airplane seatbelt. Very cool aesthetic.
I’m honestly impressed with Oris. Skeleton watches are not my thing. But I’m impressed that instead of just resting on vintage inspired diver after vintage inspired diver, the put soo much energy into the design of something so bold and different. The price is high, but justified that they had to do so much RnD. Just like Omegas new $48,000 titanium movement aqua terra, it’s expensive to try something new.... glad you enjoyed your trip Adrian!
Great video. Love Oris, but would honestly buy a Zenith Defy if I was looking for a modern / technical piece like this. Looking forward to seeing what’s next though!
Adrian, great you're there and met Rolf and the watch. I think it's an awesome bold watch!... and Oris's Attitude and approach to things is admirable. I'm wearing a BB58 while watching your video and I understand your remarks and observations, but I actually could see myself having the X. It reminds me a little bit to the IWC GST PC ref. 3756-03 in the way that it uses a "conventional" body or model and re-thinks it completely with a high complication and "sportive" look. Congrats to Oris!
@@BarkandJack They wanted their fingers in all the pies, and you as a RU-vid 'influencer', and a safe bet for them (unlike Archie, who is currently whinging that you went and not him), particularly as until recently you were a marketing manager..
Another great review. I have to say I have seen a couple of reviews on this and I have slowly fallen in love with it. The price is still a sting (for the brand), but not for the watch if that makes sense. As for getting people like yourself involved, hands on, makes sense. You were very measured by the way 😁
Ive never been a fan of Skelton watches....but there is something about this. Abit industrial! Im glad you're showing the Oris love. Very underrated in my opinion!
I've thought the same about Oris and how awesome it would be if they had an in house movement in their divers line. Owning the green dial Oris 65, I LOVE what Oris is doing and have to restrain myself from building just an Oris collection. At the end of the day, I truly hope this is a positive step for Oris and great brand retention and notoriety. 💪💪💪💪 it Oris!!!!!
Hey Adrian! Thanks for sharing your travel experience with us! Have been intrigued by Oris as a mid-range brand for a long time and have considered the Aquis as a beater,. Basically have loved the idea of Oris, but never purchased one. The originality of this piece is cool...not my style either, but they’ve definitely put it out there with their own in-house movement. I suppose the value is there, but that’s a lot to spend on an Oris. Thanks for the great content and much continued success! Let us know what your plans are for New York!!!
Cheers for the review and 1st look. Great that they invited you along to the launch. Really nice piece. I think it looks spot on - bracelet looks great too. If anything the propilot 41mm case would suit me a little better but its still a great watch.
Really glad you were part of the release, really looking forward to seeing if ORIS makes a future steel version and incorporates some of the tighting up you mentioned, if that helped drive the price to Tudor BB ballpark, be a really interesting and compelling offering, maybe a Basel offering in the next few years. Safe travels, hope you have a great trip to the States and enjoy RBG meet up. Thanks again for the great content. Cheers A
got to have some hands on time with the Big crown today , even put on the VR goggles with a inside view of the watch , love the movement with a 10 day reserve , Beautiful. but not for me it appeared little too industrial . look forward to seeing more from Oris
Charles Bronson - yes I do, it took 10 years to develop this watch in addition to all the efforts Oris has been making to become a better brand. If Rolex was on the dial, people would be willing to pay 30K+
Well done video and what a great opportunity for you and the channel. Your hard work is paying off. Look forward to see what Or is has in store for next year.... 👍⌚☕
Screw the value retention! This watch is for someone who realy loves the design, the brand and the approach oris is doing here. It is like a car manufacturer producing a supercar, just to show what they are able to do. I don‘t love everything about the design, but i respekt oris for the bold move and i donˋt think the price is too high for such an avantgard watch. Great content, as allways. Nice they picked you.
Wait a sec, it’s a 12 day power reserve so when the indicator gets to 0 there’s 2 days reserve in the tank? What’s the point of that? If they’re making such a big deal about the movement and 10 days, why not state the full 12 days? That doesn’t make any sense or am I missing something?
Hats off to the Oris CEO for making himself so available. I know its in his interest but still. Big fan of Oris and what they’ve been doing over the last few years. Im not a fan of skeleton watches. I find them fussy and thus not a fan of this. Love the view from the caseback. Could watch that for hours. Great review.
@@doublekevyks7249 power reserve is a little bit overrated I think. Focusing on the skeleton subject, the whole defy collection is better looking than this oris. And that clasp....I don't know.
Beautiful Oris. I did not personally like their designs but this one is a new chapter for them imo. Bracelet could have been finished a little better though.
I think Oris is a 2k watch and the best way to get me to think Oris is a 4k watch at Basel next year is to release an 7k watch with a big splash now. Kinda like a cost+ to value-based move to me. I’m excited to see where Oris takes this! Solid video too.
@@BarkandJack I enjoy have a coffee and leaning about watch and your tourbillon video I have seen tow or four time so good. I have a small collection nothing as grand as your watches but may be one day. www.flickr.com/photos/johnhjic/albums/72157710763026648
Love the skeletonized movement. I love how the light is reflected on the bracelet, witch is quite impressive. I'm interested in looking at it in boutique.
Phirstly, Congratulations on passing the 60k subscribers mark Adrian! Good on Oris for designing something different. I don’t want to see another Black Bay homage. ✊
This is a really interesting looking watch. I am not a fan of the bracelet but for me the real stopper is what else can I get at this price point? I know you mentioned a few brands but I think I would rather have a number of Omegas or GSs before the ProPilot...and save a bit of money...but I agree this is a fantastic move for Oris. Fantastic review, thank you Adrian.
Not only was this video well done, I got a much better sense of what this watch is all about. I might have to take back my initial impression and comment on your website. Thanks.
Love your video, and will look at more in the future. Personally, I am mesmerized by this watch, and was fortunate enough, yesterday, to apparently be the first customer in Canada to purchase one. Normally, I am a Diver 65 kind of guy, and I own two, but I just love watches in all shapes, sizes and configurations. I love what I call the "industrial" look of this watch, and how Oris achieved it by having absolutely no polished surfaces anywhere, on case, bracelet or movement. The main attraction for me, however, is the human interaction one has with the watch. For me a skeleton watch has to me a manually wound movement. Having the huge mainspring and large power reserve indicator visible when winding and seeing the movement come to life is simply grand. Without any date function or other complications, it allows all the parts to be more visible. Well, I could ramble on forever about this watch. Funny thing is that, barely two weeks ago, I picked up a Zenith A384 Revival watch from the very same AD (a favorite AD, Time & Gold here in Vancouver), a perfect reissue of a vintage watch. Now, here I am with the latest, most up-to-date, beautifully engineered modern watch! By the way, I love the Rolex Explorer 1 36mm like your's, and it is the only watch I have ever regretted selling. I totally understand your love of that one. Cheers, Carl
Adrian outstanding video sir as usual you didn't pull any punches and also presented a fair review which is exactly why they invited you I love Oris I really like this watch now on to more important things need to be getting on to them leather straps man really trying to wait LOL
Not surprised being In Shanghai. Many don't realise that the reason why they are in waiting lists is due to the huge demand in Asia, specifically in China. Love the bracelet and the clasp. Would be nice if Oris released a non-squeletenized version.
Nice to see them looking ahead to potential changes in tastes. Pleased they are doing in-house movements too. Not my thing but nice to see a brand not standing still. Well done Oris.
Well done on the invite Adrian, great video. I agree from your description it's not quite worth the money. If the movement chassis was titanium also instead of the the galvanising or as you said the fit tolerances were tighter and also had a cosc certification then it would be worth the asking price. Good luck with any further invitations. G.
Awesome review buddy and still; missing China. Bad coffee but awesome tea which is definitely worth a try. Enjoy your stay and be happy you arrived in September, July/ August is far more humid and hot 😁🙏🏻👍🏻
Oris has several in house movements. 110 -114. All are in a similar price range and most if not all have the 10 day power reserve. Hoping over time the price drops.
@@robertnorth1681 That's true. I quite like these series of movements and watches. I haven't got them just because they don't suit my small wrist (but I don't blame Oris for that).
Great video, Adrian, of a beautiful new piece from an admirable company. I know it's pilot-inspired, but I find myself wishing it were more middle of the road size-wise. Maybe down the road...
Gotta say, it looks good on you mate. Loving the bracelet and clasp, but I too wish it were a little smaller. And cheaper lol. Great release from Oris though, they are probably the most proactive and innovative of the established Swiss brands right now.
It is certainly different and interesting. Good to see them evolving the brand. Nice too for you to get a free trip out of it, quite a perk. Even better if they let you have a watch too.
I like Oris, actually own a Big Crown ProPilot so this is an interesting piece. The use of titanium certainly pushed the price up and it be interesting to know why they chose titanium over steel. I like skeletal watches and this reminds me of my Defy21, the finishing could have had a bit more contrast, with a play on tones or even add a bit of colour like blued screws just to make it pop. I’ve always thought that Oris bracelets appeared to be cheap, nasty and not very substantial when compared to others and at this price point I’d be looking for something really good. It was interesting that you mentioned the need for finer tolerances on the bracelet and if it’s like lower ranking models I would agree. Oris had a great Baselworld in 2019 and I hope the bring out further pieces in 2020, maybe an in-house automatic movement and yep something to compete with Tudor. I can certainly understand the marketing choice of China, it’s a vast market and whilst not booming like the past it’s still more significant to brands than the old world. Great vlog btw.
Totally agree they should be going after Tudor BB spec wise - - also , to use a car analogy , there is a tipping point where sadly some prices you won’t pay for certain smaller brands as its strays into the juggernaut brands
Wait.. they flew you all the way out there for the launch of one watch? Must admit, I'm not a skeleton watch fan, but this is done really well, I like the way you can see straight through the movement and see how it all fits together, even the cut away dial fits into the underlying movement with the placement of the circular second and power meter. I think the clasp works, the strap is like armour scales and the clasp is almost like an amoured gauntlet clasping hold of the strap to hold it tight. The price? I think if people like it they will buy it, its a statement piece rather than an investment piece, and everyone has a rolex..... ;)
Design feels very Fighter Jet-esque. I quite like it. I'm not huge on skeletonized so I would love to see a more traditional dial with this movement and perhaps some polished bits on the case for some contrast, but yeah overall I like it.
I love it :) something new and daring :) was almost at the point buying a big crown and then this came in front of me :) and sorry 4100 euro is not a bad price for a new watch :)
Adrian, It is an interesting piece of machinery. I have never liked skeleton watches, but this piece might warrant a look. I would want to see it in person and try it on, as a 44mm case is most likely going to be too large on my wrist. I do like the design cues Oris has used and the movement is definitely special. Great to see Oris being bold.
Really love that bracelet! Not a huge fan of the fact that the clasp flairs out but that's just a minor niggle. Love the watch! Way to big for my tiny wrist though.
Great content! i really like Oris. im a fan of what they have been dong. This ProPilot X is a nice change of pace in the watch world and for them. I also admire the fact that Oris isnt really concerned with what other watch brands are doing or what the trends are. I am excited to see where they go in the coming years and what new pieces they have for us in the future.
Hell yeah, Adrian. Great content in this one. Informative. The watch, love Oris. Love my Aquis. The quality for cost is incredible. That being said, The cost on this watch is prohibitive. I don’t think Oris’s target market is going to spring for this piece, and those that have the scratch to do so, likely aren’t looking at Oris anyways. their eyes are on the bigger boys (Rolex...). Oris sells well at around 2k or under.
If speck based... Titanium, in house 12 days, 7k are good value, but if u put brand valuation in it, will be challenging.. maybe its a gateway for oris to start go to higher level price...
Oris’s next move will be an in house powered Aquis with minor design updates, putting it in direct competition with Black Bays and Seamasters but with a modern twist.
You can see Adrian doing the mental arithmetic on how many business class flights he'll be able to wrangle off manufacturers while describing the launch as "interesting". I'm really impressed by the watch - the only two things I don't like (3 if you included the price, which I feel is too high even though there's a lot going on in terms of design and movement), is the size and that clasp.
This is a very nice watch. While I wish it was 42mm or a little smaller, this certainly has my attention. Knowing that the watch mostly utilizes Titanium in the case construction and potentially the movement this shouldn't feel like a brick on your wrist. I gotta say, I'm impressed.
Great video. Regarding the watch ... the size, the size, the size... 44mm looks ridiculous these days. Would have traded 5 days of power reserve to get a 40mm diameter.
