I totally agree with you !! Those were exactly most of my thoughts about the Oris Pro Pilot X and you presented them in a very clear and funny way !! Good job men !
Jory, I think your analysis is spot on. Definitely a "look at me!!!" piece. The amazing 10 day power reserve caliber can be seen as an in-house movement, not a re-worked movement from another supplier. It can then be used in more conservative watches, in stainless steel, at a more affordable price. Do I like the "X", yes. Will I buy one? Not at that price. Will I talk and think about Oris more now than before? Yes I will. Job well done by Oris.
Well said. These 10 day power reserve watches are phenomenal but the sizes are pushing it for my skinny wrists. The 39mm Pro Pilot X is perfect. I would be all over the skeleton X If I had bigger wrists.
ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ ΛΙΑΡΟΣ But the accuracy sucks (+6, -4). Any watchmaker can slow their movement down to increase the reserve, but accuracy is the price to pay. For the same money my Explorer 39 is crazy accurate (maybe I got lucky, but running less than half second slow a day). Wait a year or two, and you will pick one of these up for less than half retail. That won’t happen a Rolex. Oris is shooting too high here - the Zenith is a safer (and cooler) buy if want skeleton.
Pete at Not So Obvious Watches mentioned that if you look closely you can see neat airplane design elements, like a turbine fan in movement on the bezel. It's like the more you look at this watch the more it reveals. And good for Oris for pushing the envelope on what it can be.
I think what sets the BC ProPilot X apart is that sceletonization is not just another feature to an existing movement, removal of less load bearing materials. It has been designed this way right from the beginning. In my opinion this leads to the modern sceleton-watch look, as a construction and not as an additional process.
It’s a halo watch. It offers a new movement with a bold look. It’s had more people talking about Oris than it’s had in years. It a bold statement that will bring interest in the rest of the line. I’m sure that movement will appear elsewhere as well. While it’s 7600 dollar cost is high and above their range it isn’t wild in world of halo watches.
So...... I'm gonna ramble for a minute about my thoughts regarding ORIS. When I purchased my first high end watch ... It was an ORIS. A "TT1 day/date gray face bracelet Circa 2012...and at the time, Oris said" Real watches, for real people". That tag line hit home for me. There is an honesty about their watches. I now own two ORIS Watches. And now Oris say " Go your own way".... Same song different verse as far as I am concern because I am an ORIS fanboy. The history and heritage, and everything.... To creat such impressive time pieces at attainable prices. What's not to love . Then came the "X". And same as you I thought WOWZER what a watch... 10 day power reserve, titanium and built to take a beating with 100 m water resistance etc ... AMAZING . And yes.... $7600 bucks... No way!!! Cuz I have no issue with the price what so ever. BUT.... I'm not a fan of skeletonized watch cases either. Too distracting. Unpure. Weird. THEN... The more I learned the more I wanted to be apart of this ORIS future. A genuinely unique and forewords thinking and advanced time piece. And it's an ORIS !?!?! Well ladies and gentlemen.... It most certainly is ORIS ! And be honest.... Is it really any surprise. I will have one! And gladly pay full retail just so they know we know ORIS makes a dam fine time piece... At any pricem We need to encourage this kind of watch making. Go your own way...... Indeed and hell yeah. Congratulations ORIS. Yes yes yes.... One shall be mine my precious........ ;-). Great review ! Love the show. Be well..... peace
Your big crown is the way I found your channel .....I think it’s been two years now!? Anyhow, as a technological flex on their part I think they did a great job, and if it was offered in 39-41mm I think I’d be a buyer! I’m usually not a fan at all of skeleton dials but I like this one! Also, what’s even more exciting is there are huge rumblings of in house movements coming to their regular lineup.... I would go nuts for an aquis or diver 65 with some type of in house movement chronometer....oh boy.
Another great review. I LOVE my Propilot Big Date too. I also LOVE the new X. I think you nailed it with this review. It's like a showpiece for the brand. Would LOVE to see the new movement in a Big Date😍😍😍😍
Great episode Jory, I had pretty much the same reaction to this new model. Love the Oris brand and not a big fan skeletonized watches but I got to say this one is done right!
Oris have a bunch of watches with this 110 based caliber. Oris 111 or 114 is pretty clean if you aren't for the skeleton. New for 3500€ and up on Chrono 24. 112 and 113 are a bit dressier. Again spanning 3500-5000€. Read somewhere it takes more or less 270 rotations of the crown to get to 10 days. Love the idea, but hell that's a lot of winding.
It is the ORIS hero piece & I love it...and as soon as I can get a discount on one then I will be strapping one on my wrist & into my watch rotation 110% TT.
Well, the 10day power reserve is really cool; in theory you needn't tend to it even if you only wear it once a week or so... But, if you are a person who drops7k on an extra expressive watch like this, chances are high that you are an enthusiast who owns other mechanical watches that need handwinding and setting, and that all hang out in a watch box... so de facto nothing would actually change; you'd still be winding and checking a bunch of watches each morning. Oh, the struggle of 1st world problems!
I am with you on the Big Pilot Pro. Simple, clear competent. I wonder, is the ‘X’ the watch Oris would make if they were assimilated by The Borg? By your own admission, ‘Resistance is futile!’
I have a oris tt1date it's a handsome watch with it's kettle case and integrated bracelet. I also have a oris 7496 chronometre. Another striking if rather vintage looking piece today. I had a big crown but sold it.. I feel as a brand they're confused.
Another great video. You sir are entertaining as hell. I’m in love with the Pro pilot X!! Would be supper cool if you end up picking one up. Looking forward to the next “Party cam”!
agreed, that this should not have been called a pilot's watch. I love the watch, better legibility once it's lumed, but I have reservations about the price of this watch. I'm not sure the level of finishing justifies the price. I'd rather go with the zenith defy 21 for the money.
I tried the oris big crown propilot 40mm and I liked a lot ... may be it’s too late for my actual watch collection, specialy because I would like the diver 65 before with bronze bezel (?) ...
I have the same propilot you have and love it.. .buddy bought the X and let me wear it for a week and its amazing and I could justify spending 3-4k on it personally but I just can't fork over the 7k they want for it. Not saying its not worth it but its not worth that to me.
Jory, your tastes align with mine about 99%.I agree wiyh you about the new PP. People complain about tge lrice, but titanium and in house 8 day movement? cmon!
I am living in Dubai and I was offered the UAE 🇦🇪 50th anniversary limited edition the case no.50 over 50. I know it’s over priced at retail, but I don’t think 🤔 I would get that 50th piece easily at a bargain later. Should I pull the trigger ?!
What's that whistling sound I hear? Oh yeah, the price of the Propilot X on the preowned market in six months to a year. I'm also not a fan of skeletonized dials....and this one doesn't change my mind in the least.
Totally agree, mostly. However, They should have just at least named and made this its own new model series instead of trying to oddly associated with the Oris big crown pro pilot.
I'd kind of want to know more about the 10-day power reserve: How much and how fast does the accuracy wane as the reserve depletes (a graph would be awesome), and, is the mainspring as durable as a two-day reserve? or does it need to be replaced more frequently? Also, does such a large power reserve put more pressure on certain going train parts that might wear out faster? or has that been accounted for if that's the case?
Its a dual barreled system so it doesn’t lose amplitude near the end of the power reserve. These are not cosc certified but are known to operate within those parameters.
Fantastic skeleton watch but a little pricey. I think legibility is acceptable but even though made of titanium I still can't help thinking this watch belongs on a leather strap which in turn would also have helped reduce the overall cost.
hi thanks for the clip I bought an it's amazing watch, like all oris watches, but it's expected from a company that holds the best designers on the market today. Second, if Rolex can sell watches at such prices, surely oris can
Jeremy Rosenstock nothing wrong with it mate. I just don’t see the enticement. A watch case isn’t that difficult to design compared to a car chassis, or the actual mechanical movement itself, so I just don’t understand the appeal myself I guess
@@Awkwardfruitfly It's more about the quality of the steel or titanium and how much attention to finishing details put into the watch. Sellita itself is one of the largest Swiss mfg of movements "for" ETA. They are probably the most reliable in the Swiss watch making industry.
It reminds me of Tissot T-Complication Squelette. I like the design of the watch, being titanium and skeletonized, but they definitely gave the wrong name to it. It isn’t a pilot watch!
I like your reviews! They are great! I feel this is more of a dress watch than a professional pilot watch. Quite stealthy n can't tell time straight away, so it shouldn't be called "pilots watch". Not a nice watch in my personal opinion.
I've not been a fan of Oris; I tend to find it too run-of-the-mill and uninspired. I like the old stuff (ww2 era, especially), but it's tough to find one that's not a frankenwatch. That said, the pro pilot x is really cool, inspired, and different. I'd wear one. I'll not buy it myself unless I win the powerball, but I'd wear it were someone to give me one.
I absolutely love it from the first moment I saw it I wanted it. I want it more then I wanted the 2018 speedmaster professional 300m. I keep a tab in my browser open all the time so I don't drop it out of my sight. I know. I'm obsessed. But I will never ever ever ever pay more than.. 4999 for it. F#$@! It's gonna be a long wait.
The Pro Pilot is 1700 dollars over here. The Oris 65 2200 dollars. Half the price would be still too much for an unregulated movement imho. It just shows how great the Alpinist was for about 400 dollars.
I L.O.V.E IT, just cant afford it, tried it on a couple times, think actually more subtle than images portray, galvanized matte finish far more discreet than high polish watches
Technically impressive, but yes this is a huge mistake. They should have made this skeleton design In the artelier line. For a pilot watch where legibility is paramount this makes no sense. I would imagine this is not going to sell very well.
The down votes are those who think that you ditched your current mature understated and refined "piece" for the youthful, exciting and outrageous "piece"
My sympathy goes out to the families of all the professional pilots that will now unavoidably crash because of the lesser legibility of this Propilot. Oris has their blood on its hands. As well as that of all the divers who perished because of the under 300m WR of the Diver 65. That watch shamefully lacked a Helium escape valve as well.
