I have always loved the Dred. One of my favorite miniatures. Totally captures the orkish feel and theme. Dred mob for life !!!! Another good vid ! Thanx Stevo
You know what I have always wanted to see on a deff dread? A lobba option. You could even limit it to a maximum of one or two guns. Just, a little indirect fire from a stomp robot skulking about the backlines (probably a dakka-focused dread) screening out deepstrike units, shooting down fliers, holding objectives, and hiding from most anti-tank fire behind the shells of buildings. I know it seems a bit 'Blood Axey,' but I think it's cool. I have so many dreads with partially magnetized weapons that I might have to start running them as nobz, modeled for disadvantage.
I think the best way to use the Deff Dread is with all Klaws since most of the Dakka is gonna be handled with other stuff, and the Dread’s Dakka is okay at best.
Dread mobz are what got me into orks! I love there lore of a poor ork boy convinced by a savy mek of a eazy way to become the biggest baddest stompest mob there is and by the time he realizes he can't ever scratch his back or pick up some grog he's already wielded in tight. Its is a shame about only being able to take 3 id preferred if they had kept the unit sizes from 9th but only let us being 2 of each type or 4 battle line/ transports so we could have 6 deaf dreads 12 killa kanz instead of 3 and 18. I feel that would of been a better balance for a lot of factions units whos sizes feel alittle off right now like admech with there battle line only being allowed to be taken in units of 10.
I love your non meta approach, its refreshing. I love the deffdreads and i love that they got stat buffs. But to go from 85 points (4claws) in 9th to 150 in 10th. Thats brutal… 😢 With that said, im definatelly gonna try out the 4 kmb dread, with a mek of course! Love your videos!
Do it, guaranteed they'll get points drops the end of the edition anyway. And you'll have more than one ready to go, you can't stop at one they're too much to build and paint.
I adjusted my FIRST Orks event list to include my Deff Dread because of you!!! I’m going proper Ork with 3 mega blasters and 1 scorcher… 🙌✅🫡😈 May Gork or Mork bless my dice and not blow myself up.
Just to add really fucking appreciate the videos. It honestly brightens my day to see a new one. I'm wondering if a another army showcase is on the cards? The 1500pt video was so epic, especially given now we'd seen the struggle to beat dread and the rest to the finish line.
Thanks so much. I will do another at some point. But in all honestly I haven't added a huge amount of painted units to the list since then. Once I have I will certainly do another.
I built my first Deff Dread out of the Combat Patrol box, but I'm still waiting for a chance to play with it. I magnetized all the arms, and I'm very proud of myself. It was a pain, but it feels very rewarding to know I can mix and match any loadout I want on the fly.
Yes, I kinda realised that halfway through talking, which is why I kinda stumbled on my words a bit. Lol I am still learning along as I create these vids.
I don't think you were ever allowed to swap the upper arms with anything other than Deff Dread weapons. As silly as they may be, cramming this thing full of the same weapon is just fun. Just imagine the mushroom cloud when all four Kustom Mega Blastas overheart and turn this thing into a crater.
I just put my first model together today. I actually loved spending the time and seeing all the options that came in the box, just quizzical stupid cosmetic things you could do with them. Truly feel like this guy is mine.
@6Stevo you know? I subbed to you over this and you don't have a whole lot of model content. Which is actually really nice. Because I'm trying to fit together a 3k piece of Orky love boyz and everyone has an opinion about what I should and shouldn't be doing. I like your videos because it just says what the unit really brings to the list. And that is appreciated. Keep up the good work.
you tell them steve. deff dreads rock!! i build 4 of them so far. so no!! you're not talking out of your .... Deff dread are one of the units that got me into WH40K in the first place. greets from the Netherlands😁
Dreadz! You love em, I love em and they love being stompy and killy! These things brought me into Orks and Warhammer to begin with. I'm so glad they can be dakkadreads and even kick a git. The 9 dread dream might not be dead though. I guess time will tell
Vanguard tactics have been popping up on my Facebook feed. £500 for some video courses on how to play 40k... I crumbled and tried to order the snakes and ladders beginners course and the connect 4 competive master class. It's a lot of fun trying to ruin their ads with sarcastic comments.
I really like deff dreads too, and run 3 in my lists. I do think they cost too much. For the cost of a deff dread, I could be running a truck, a squad of 10 boyz, and still have points left over. It gets me way more attacks, more objective control, and more board presence. That being said, I paid for these deff dreads and painted them, so I'm gonna use them!
Someday, Stevo, you're going to have to tell us how you REALLY feel about the Deff Dread lol Love your vids! I'm building my very first stompy-boy, and it's been lots of fun. Dakka dread is the way for me, 100%! Haters get zogged
Seeing the new dred model brought me back into 40k. Always good to run just for the spectacle. And yeah the points would probably be better spent elsewhere but at least you need some dedicated firepower to bring them down now with T9 and a 2+ save. The way I look at it is that you can bring two squads of lootas and three mobz of gretchin without looking like a try hard prick with some fluffy over priced dreads.
agree that battleshock is a very cool mechanic. i think a lot of the online negativity towards the system isn't against the mechanic itself, but rather that is can feel lackluster / battleshock should be MORE impactful. it's not too hard to just, suceed on all your battleshock saves, and worse case, spend 1 CP to atuo-pass if you really need to. hopefully 11th makes battleshock an even bigger aspect. unlike the 'insane bravery' 2CP strat from 9th, new-'insane bravery' is 1CP can be used once a turn.
Yeah, I agree actually, at least, in part. I think the insane bravery strat does kind of apoil the battleshock mechanic. Perhaps if it was 2cp, instead of 1cp, it would be better.
The most important question with deff dread is: Would I rather have 1 deff dread or 3 killa kans? (both 150 points) I had plan for list on narative event which happens twice per year to have 9 deff dreads... Just to see it...well now I have illegal amount of deff dreads (not 9 thou)
Now only 130pts!!! I'm building a Mek Army: 1x Stompa 1x Gorkanaut 1x Deff Dread 3x Dread Klaws 1xScorcha 1x Deff Dread 3x Dread Klaws 1xKustom Mega Blasta 3x Killa Kans 3x Kan Klaws 3x Rokkit Launcha 2x Mek Gunz 2x Kustom Mega Kannon 2x10 Gretchin for farming those CPs 1xTrukk with 10x Boyz for annoyance 3x Meks, 1 for the Stompa, 1 for the Gorka and 1 standing between the two Mek Gunz
this was one of the first models i built, would love to build a 2nd one and do some fun poses. hope when the codex comes out they become truly great. they aren't horrible right now but they often die before i get much out of them.
So I have a question about the Dread Klaws, since you can have a separate profile for each dakka weapon, don't you get a separate profile for each Klaw? Like if you have 2 Big Shootas, they would each fire for a total of 6 attacks right? So since the Dead Choppy trait adds an additional attack for each other Dread Klaw, wouldn't it mean like if you had 4 Dread Klaws, you could potentially have a total of 28 Klaw attacks from all 4 of them? 7 Attacks from each Dread Klaw to attack with all 4 of them? Or is it a different rule between melee and ranged weapons?
No, you would get 7 attacks max. When in melee you can only attack with 1 weapon. This is why the klaw has the special rule granting extra attacks for each additional klaw.
@@6Stevo thanks. I wasn’t sure but just imagine how sickening it would be for something that terrifying getting 28 attacks in hahaha. How “dread choppy” it would be. It took those klaws and went to “blend” mode.
The first rule of w40k is have fun! F@#k off the meta , i still run 3 of this bad big boys to crunch and crush everything! I equip they 2 claws and 2 rokkit or 2kmb to have juicy dakka and 6 claw attaks, they are more strong and scary as they seems, big hug see ya!
If you had four KMBs that caused four hit to go through, do you roll D6 damage seperately for each hit or do you roll D6 once and that decides the damage for all four hits?
I'm new to warhammer, so I don't really know the rules, but is there any reason to stack multiple of the same rang weapon? As I understand, you can only shoot one weapon at a time if it's not a pistol or twin linked. So a Deff Dread with 1 rocket launcher would shoot the same as one with 4 rocket launchers
I too love, love, love the dreads! Stats buff was very welcome, points increase is a pain in the arse but tolerable and even may get addressed, limited to 3 in an army in just fascism made manifest on GWs part (despite me having never fielded more than 3 at once, I want the options damnit!). And just to note, I would hire a coach........................... to transport all my fucking Deff Dreads bayyyybeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! 😝😝
@@6Stevo I did a lil calculation and it's probably more viable for a 4 armed scorcher dread than to take one unreinforced trukk burna Boyz with its 2+ save and high movement.
@@6Stevo I think it would look cooler with the three claws because I like the idea of it being non-symmetrical but fluff wise I like the idea of an extra burny Dredd! 💩
Hmmm, s'gonna hurt my OoozToofs army, have to see how many kanz they're allowed? Does seem a bit silly restricting them the way they're appearing to tho, unless it's gonna be "one unit per 'n' points" or sumfin?
The defdreas is easily one of my favorite models in the entire game, but with its current stats and being 150 point i just cant find a use for it. Maybe it perfoms better then what it looks like on paper but i just dont have faith it will work.
It can tank a suprising amount of incoming fire. Look, I don't think it's top tier. Probably won't see much play in tournaments. But it's far from useless and it can do some nasty damage.
@@6Stevo maybe I spend to much time with meta players as I do play in a lot of local tournaments. For me it just makes way more sense to spend 15 more points and bring a second beastboss on squigasour instead of the Defdreds 🤷
Unfortunately the Deff Dread's ability isn't as great as you make out. You charge an enemy on an objective. Start of your fight phase, the enemy takes a battleshock test, let's say they fail. Combat finishes, Start of their command phase they recover, then score the objective as normal.
I have one with 2 skorchas. He either does really well or gets taken out before he does anything. Come to think of it. That's wot happens to all my Dreads! 😅
The thing that makes the battle shock rule rubbish is the battle shock rule itself. Say you charge an enemy unit with the dred and cause battleshock due to them failing the roll.....then what? It's the combat phase so basically the end of your go and the battle shock only lasts till the start of the opponent's turn. Because they are not under half strength they just carry on as normal in their own turn. So this ability achieves the enemy not being able to use a stratagem in your combat phase on the specific unit that failed the battle shock test, if they fail it to begin with. So it basically does absolutely nothing at all and everything it does returns back to normal the very next game phase 🤷♂️ it is near useless in its current form and is not going to win you any objectives as battle shock is calculated and recovered automatically by these units in step 2 of their own command phase and objectives are counted at the end of the command phase.
Don't forget this also works during the opponents fight phase too. So in that case it will last all the way through the rest of their turn and your following turn.
@@6Stevo very true! It's actually way better on the enemy turn but they would have the choice to fall back too I guess. It also affects some secondary objectives that score at the end of the turn. It is just a shame it does not make the enemy make a test on the next command phase though as that would be super handy for taking objectives
@@smole321 agreed. And also you raise good points that I hadn't actually considered. I am still learning this stuff along with you all. It will be interesting to see how the Codex develops.
Playing recently with a deff dred now they're 130 pts. It's great when it gets into combat, but it doesn't often enough. I'd prefer higher points but more wounds. 8 wounds with so much -AP on guns means you land with 2-3 wounds left if you're lucky, you don't survive the fight-back and its dead in 1 turn.
Unfortunately they are overpriced and dead choppy only gives 6 attacks not 7 as they have 2 klaws standard and so can only have 2 additional klaws. But I am with you on how cool these models are. Like is there really a cooler looking ork model?
No not true. The profile for the Klaw is the weapon itself. So how many the dread is equipped with as standard is irrelevant. If you replace one of those klaws with a gun, the profile won't reduce. 1 klaw = 4 attacks. Each additional klaw adds 1. Maximum of 7.
@@Wastelander2281 Nah mate you're wrong on this. Take one klaw and 3 guns and the stats don't change... Meaning the following. 0 Klaws = Use Stompy Feet profile 1 Klaw = Use Klaw profile 2 Klaws = Use Klaw profile +1 3 Klaws = Use Klaw profile +2 4 Klaws = Use Klaw profile +3 To explain it another way... Is 2 additional to 1? 1+1 = 2 so if one klaw gets you the klaw profile (and it does) then all others are additional.
Because I like doing it and my loyal (and awesome) viewers enjoy the content I make. Also..... i'm bloody good at what I do. And..... I dunno if you're aware of who I am, but...... i'm kind of a Big Deal. 😏
Sorry, this came off a bit harsh. I more meant the tactical aspect. I’m usually a fluffy player, so I’m struggling in this tournament and it can be hard to find reliable tactical videos for armies like orks. Didn’t mean to be too negative
Fair play fella. I appreciate the response. I (like you) am generally a fluffy player who enjoys a mildly competitive game. My tactics videos aren't designed to make you a tournament champ or anything like that. They are more for sharing ideas about various ways who could use certain units and discussing the pros and cons of each unit. Perfect vids for the fluffy player such as yourself. I don't wear a polyester shirt with sponsors. Or have any trophys. But I am deeply passionate about Orks and this game. I wanna share that passion with the community.
