This was me and my husband’s song. If I heard it while I was in the car driving, I would call him and we would listen to it together. He is no longer with us. I miss him terribly.
These guys aren't no spring chickens, and for them to be able to still do this at their age now it's tremendously awesome. And I'm so blessed that day are still with us performing at a high level and giving so many people the enjoyment today that they gave us back in the seventies when I was 18 years old
And JK Simmons on bass voice. In reality I dreamt about this after 20 years and this is one of my favorite songs of all time. Everyone needs to just shut up and get over the hive mind and love each other. If it was 1 on 1 with someone you hate sitting in a room just talking it would be a better world.
remember meeting Rep John Hall at my job in N Y State thank you for keeping our plant there and not letting them move south you shook my hand and asked how long you been here at the time it was 20 years you walked around with our manager Tom i have been able to retire after 30 years thanks again
One of the most under appreciated bands of all time. The talent is over the top. On the recording of this song in 1976, the dueling guitars is some of the best you'll ever hear this side of Lynard Skynard doing Freebird. These guys are some serious musicians.
I saw them way back when '76 or '77. at what they called the "Mountain Aire" concerts up in the Califorina foothills by Angels Camp with Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne? and a couple other great acts that I don't remember.. but what I do remember is the Orleans guys would get up and switch instruments in between songs, they could all play just about any instrument! Really really amazing musicians!
I had the great pleasure of meeting Larry Hoppen and literally being on the stage when he was performing. He was such a super nice person who was humble and talented beyond belief. Many don't know he wrote "Dancing in the Moonlight" a classic tune, prior to Orleans. RIP Larry.
I saw the original line -up twice in the 70's and they were so great! Super songs, harmonies and guitar licks! Met John here in Poughkeepsie when he was running for office. We had a quick chat about his old band Kangaroo. Nice guy!
They're all really cool and special people. There will never be another 'Larry'. But they still carry the torch very well and that is quite admirable....(particularly for his brothers)! RIP Larry. You made 'it happen' man*****
This, my friends, is how it's done!!! This is an extremely-well-put-together-song with an intro, verses, choruses, a bridge, and a great ending, all played by tremendously talented musicians that remind me of the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Beach Boys, and the Allman Brothers. 1. It's got a great, Rock & Roll guitar lead-in; 2. a driving bass; 3. nice rhythm keyboard; 4. added to an upbeat tune and positive lyrics 5. with an excellent lead singer; 6. great background vocalists; 7. harmonizing lead guitars playing fills and 8. an excellent harmonizing lead guitar part. What more can you ask for? Any of the great bands of the 60's, 70's, 80's, up to today would be proud to have written this song.
Larry Hoppen was one of the nicest individuals I have ever met. He handed me a signed CD of ORLEANS Live and I played that until it disintegrated. So talented and humble.
From a bygone era when bands with harmonized guitar solos were all the rage. Orleans, Little River Band & Eagles were the top of the heap in my book, because along with some interesting guitar arrangements, each of these bands also had amazing vocals, composed memorable tunes, and could deliver a live performance equal to or better than the studio version. This is a great example.
I love this song by Orleans. My husband Steve gave me the idea 😂 because he tells me many times that I am still the one who can scratch his itch, lol, haha hahaha
so great to hear players that can absolutely kick butt and take no prisoners-aside from being one of the best LIVE vocal bands ever...Orleans was under appreciated...
i do apologize, as my wife overrides my address; but just the same, the song and the Orleans were things i never forget till this day of my life. was surprised to see you people are still grooving and u're still fun to watch, as i reminisced from the old......
This song was playing regularly on the radio in 1976 when my buddy and I drove my 1962 Dodge Dart from IL to Austin TX, and we spent the next 3 months starving and looking for work. Just a couple of skinny hippies. Good times. Good song.
Actually, not only did he have the distinctive upper range vocal ability and lead singing role, but the guy was also a very good guitar player and instrumentalist. He and Hall made for a great duet of harmonic matching guitar leads in the tune. Hoppen was a very significant part of the Orleans sound all the way around. And, when I heard recently that he had taken his own life years ago, I was taken aback and distraught. Hurts when a major talent and musical force self-destructs.....suggests there was something going on. Hall pretty much admits as much in later day commentary. Sad
@@annecohen8927 Larry Hoppen had a high tenor voice. He sang lead on "Still The One." John Hall could sing baritone. A good example is his answering vocal at the end of "Still The One." An amazing band.
A great memory: They did some dates with us on a short Hawaiian tour when I was with Gary Puckett for a stretch. Robbie Dupree was along & sounded great, too. It was in the 80s. Gorgeous weather, good crowds, Blue Hawaiians...Man, it was sweet! RIP Larry..
Still the One was our song. My first boyfriend and I would listen to this song, so many great memories. I still miss him today. Rest in Peace Tim. Love you.
I get a chuckle when I see 70's rockers still performing but now they look like dads from a regular neighborhood. Nice to hear their voices and instrument playing are still rockin. Wow !! Fabulous song. Really positive and upbeat. Love it. Makes me feel good when I hear it.

No Question about that! We lived in a glory age of great tunes and incredible musicians- those who actually played their own instruments & songs. I was privileged to see them about 3 or years ago at the Mohegan Sun Casino in CT for FREE! What a show. It brought us all back to those great days of Orleans and their music!
@cprtrain, I fully understand your point of view, I grew up/"came of age" in the 70's. I love all this music, and I don't listen to anything new. But honestly I believe we don't like today's music because we're not young anymore. I can distinctly remember my father bitching about Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Molly Hatchet, so on and so forth. Actually I believe his exact words were, "TURN THAT GOD DAMNED GARBAGE DOWN!" 😆 (And all the young people reading this are now googling Ted, Aerosmith, and Molly Hatchet!)
Vince Purpura Hey Vince you should have been there the first time I played The Pusher Man (steppenwolf) on my little one speaker Sears record player. Not Good lol.
Love it!!!! Still The One in 2023, just as good of a song then as it is now. The music is fantastic, guitar, vocals, and l love the way the drummer has his drums tuned Great job guys!!!!
my god! this song is perfect in every way. most melodic and catchy, wow. is amazing how just 4 minutes can make so many people happy. but it does. thanks guys. u nailed it!
God Bless Larry! I wear your name on my Awareness shirt every time I walk. So many great nights at the Joyous Lake hearing your voice and the rest of the guys. Peace in Heaven.
IIRC, they used it for the fall of 1980, when ABC had been #1 in the ratings for 4 years. They tweaked the lyrics "YOU'RE still having fun, and WE'RE (ABC) still the one". The spots featured stars of ABC shows holding up their index finger in the classic #1 sign. So of course, CBS, on the strength of shows like Dallas, overtook ABC for #1 for the 1980-81 season. I though that was funny as hell . :D
