Well I finally managed to watch all your O_C series. There’s a lot of good vids out there. These are brilliant. A must, a definite goto for anyone thinking of buying or owning this magical module. Well done you & thanks.
Glad you like them! And thank you so much for the kind words - always great to hear that my videos help others. I've more videos planned over the next few weeks so stay tuned
Thank you very much for your video playlist about o&c, I learned a lot by reading the wiki and simply trying, but the most fun stuff I learned by watching your tutorial series! There is so many in the wiki to discover and so much inside this tiny 8HE module that automatically I have too many informations so that my old brain sometimes seems to explode. Watching your videos is more comprehensive because you explain it very well. So grateful!!! That module is in my opinion the "must have module" in every rack. I wait to receive my 10th uO_C from AfterLaterAudio shipped by Thomann. As a Swiss citizen I can proudly say that this module is a Swiss Army Knife module Hehehe LOL
Reallly helpful! I had been thinking of O_c as mostly a quantizer and thinking maybe I needed a more accessible sequencer in my rack--problem solved! I think this will make a huge change in how I construct my patches. Thank you!
Your whole OC series is vital to the eurorack community. OC was prob my 15th module purchase, when it should have been one of the first. But I thought how could such a plan faced module be so powerful? Just wasn’t sexy enough for me. Better late than never. A huge thank you, many times over!!
Thanks for all you do, especially sharing your in depth knowledge of OC which is a module I’ve grown to love because of your videos! General OC question- what would be the best app for generating 4 stepped random voltages which can be constrained within a certain voltage range, rate adjusted, and perhaps quantized as well?
@@SynthDad Thanks for that I will see if I can wrap my head around it to get the cv modulation Im looking for. Basically trying to figure out how to emulate the last 4 random voltage outputs of the Ochd Expander.
@@andrewnancarrow lots of ways to do that - look at running the DualTM applet in both hemispheres in Phazerville to get 4 clocked and randomised voltages. Or the EnigmaJr shift register app, lots of ways you can get similar results with some creative thinking!
Thanks, yes both good ideas. I’m still wrapping my head around this versatile module and seeing that it kind of is able to essentially take the place of so many other modules. A rack with a few OC modules gives limitless options it seems
I imagine a complex module like this is not only for me hard to master. There's videos on hemisphere suite but this seems to be even more complex... I "downgraded" for that reason. Your presentation made it way easier for me to understand.
love the O_C explanation. i get lazy and leave mine in the byte beat mode for glitchy random, but seeing how other people work with other modes is wonderful! easy to forget how much there is to explore and how changing the app can make a whole new patching approach.
Thanks so much! I had always used Hemispheres on O_C so this was a great opportunity for me to dive into the stock firmware and I was surprised at how deep it was. Working on a tutorial on Copiermaschine now
Great tutorial! It's clear that with Pams + O_C alone you have a sequencing powerhouse, albeit a very menu-divy one. Great for small non-performance systems.
Thank you! I agree that it’s a more menu-diving than is ideal for live performance. That’s why I’m pairing the O_C up with a hands-on module in my other videos
Thanks for doing these O_C videos! All super helpful and very well done. I wish O_C could just generate a trigger from one of the outputs to feed back into itself in order to restart the sequence though...seems like it wouldn't be too difficult of a feature to add.
I went in last night and replicated everything from the video. Immensely helpful. I used a Squawk Dirty filter instead of a Ripples (that is now on my list) and an Arcus Audio VCA. I got it to work. Thank you very much.
Love your O_C videos - I keep coming back to them. Any way to save sequences on Sequins like we can store Turing machines on Enigma? Many thanks for the clarity of your tutorials.
@@SynthDad For some wierd reason that I don't understand, I am more afraid of tuning my analog VCOs than actually doing all the soldering for putting them together... I tried to tune a 3340 CEM DIY but when switching octaves, it kind'a comes out of tune here and there... not much but you can notice it, oh well. Peace
As always thanks for all of your OC videos. So thorough and clear. Not sure if you have ever seen or played with Amnis by Ritual Electronics? If so which OC applet would you think most closely performs a similar function of any?
Not yet! But the O_C has a few different shift-register apps, with the most obvious one being Copiermaschine, which is 4 feedback shift registers. I also have a video on how it works :)
thanks you, i get this module and only whit the manual in englich it s complex to me, to have a clear tutorial (and you get the most clear on it) help me a lot . Do you think to make other tutorial about the rest of OC? could be nice
I really like them too! I bought them from ModularSynthLab here: www.etsy.com/ie/listing/781226457/eurorack-blind-panels-3u-complete-set-7?ref=hp_opfy-1
Hemispheres gives you more smaller apps that would be similar to classic Doepfer modules (simple sequencers, slew limiters, envelope generators etc) and the standard firmware gives you more complex apps that are similar to Mutable modules (e.g. Stages, Peaks). So one is not “better” than the other, it depends on what you want to use it for
Another brilliant video. THANK YOU. Question for you, (and I know this isn't a video on Pams)---at 16:47 you mention setting pams to fire off a single gate to do the reset. How do you have it send only one gate and not keep sending?
If you press the knob for an output and turn it to start selecting the rate multiplier, go all the way to the end to x48, and then keep turning to get to the special modifiers. Select the one-off gate modifier which will then fire the gate only once when run is pressed.
Great vid. Quick question. In the video there is clearly an option to change the root note. On my o_c this option isn’t available and also isn’t in the manual. Just wondered how to find this parameter. Many thanks :-)
Hey! I ordered an Ornament and Crime because of your videos. Is there a decent pitch/cv sequencer in the Hemisphere software? In the manual I can only find trigger sequencers and a 5 step sequencer :/ Thanks!
Thanks! I’d suggest the Carpaggio applet as a Cartesian sequencer, or you can use the Darkest Timeline app which is located in the main menu. It’s next on my list of videos to make
@@SynthDad Thanks for the reply! It should arrive very soon and I will start reading up on those 2 apps you suggested. Looking forward to more videos. Cheers!
Does the sequencer resetting not work if you're modulating the sequence using CV input? I'm having troubles to make it work on my Ornament & Crime from After Later Audio.
Thanks for this video! I'm currently using a drumbrute impact to clock my system, is it possible to set up the reset function with just a single clock source? without something like Pams? I also have an O-CTRL(clocked by the drum machine) and if I send a gate out of the 1st step to the RST2 input, it still doesn't seem to reset....
For the reset input you just need to send it a trigger, so if the Drumbrute can send a trigger (maybe a note being hit?) then it will reset the sequencer position. I'm not familiar with how the 0-Ctrl sends gates, but looking at the manual if you are using the dynamic gate feature you'll need to ensure that the voltage reaches 5v to trigger the RST2 input. Is the output on the 0-Ctrl being attenuated perhaps?
Is there a way to just transpose the whole sequence? Changing the rootnote doesn't properly transpose the whole melody to that rootnote, just gives it a random variation of the current sequence
Thanks for making these vids. I'm in the market for a sequencer, but none seem to have all the qualities I would like. The o_C sequins seems like it ticks all the boxes. But how many options do you have for saving sequences? Is it just the 4 sequences you show in the menu, or can you save different 'presets' of the app? Thanks!
Thanks for watching! That is one of the limitations of the small memory on the O_C; Sequins will only save the 4 sequences you’ve created per sequencer. Now that’s 8 sequences in total which could be enough for a track? If you want to have a library of sequences look at the Enigma app as you can have 40 generative shift register sequences saved. Not the same as Sequins though.
@@SynthDad thanks for the advice! It wpuld definitly be enough for a ttack. But you need to be creative to make an entire set out of it. I really like the idea of 2 sequencers sharing the same pitch info but the rest is seperate, like fugue machine or Metropolix. Would it be easy to switch between sequins and enigma with a set? Then you might get a long way if you change some parameters on the fly in a set.
Just got my o_C and had assumed I was going to put hemispheres on it but your videos have been convincing me to play with it a bit first! Can you tell me more about the arp mode? The docs don’t mention it. Does it arp each note before moving on or arp the whole pattern once in each direction?
I was the same and had Hemispheres on mine and then decided to spend time working with the standard firmware. The docs only have one line on the arp mode in Sequins! But reading the code I see that it is based on the arpeggiator in Mutable Yarns. A bit of testing shows that it arpeggiates the whole sequence
@@SynthDad Thanks! So if you had a 4 note pattern with arp on for 3 octaves, it would play the sequence first normal, then octave up, then 2 octaves up? Also what happens for other directions, I guess it goes through the whole thing "once" before changing octaves.
That’s an interesting way of using it, but yes I think that would work. The gate would trigger the envelope on the AUX output and you could just ignore the pitch value generated by the sequencer. Never thought of that!
hi Synthdad. Thank you so much for your amazing tutorials. Do you know by any chance why the output pitch doesnt change when I change the root note? I was thinking about how to change the scale fast between tracks and I thought well if I just change the root note then it should be fine, the notes in the scale change for sure but lets say I change from Cmaj to Amin (easy because same notes) but the 0 position from the sequence is still a C even if I change the Root to A. Do you know why that is or am I just being stupid? Thanks a lot and happy patching! Nico
Help ! :/ I got a Circadian Rhythms seq, properly a step secuencer for triggering perc modules, but not for melodies sequencing, does Sequins or any other Onament and Crime's Mode , help me to pitch note values in the Circadian Rhytmhs in order to be used as a melodic sequencer as well ?
Yes! Luckily you have a few options here; easiest is probably to set up your melodic sequence in Sequins (using two sequencers) and then trigger the sequencers using two circles from Circadian Rhythms into TR1 and TR3.
good video men i like it . i use a lot sequins in m'y modular and it's amazing i really recommand it , for next vidéo if you can make a tutorial on how you install hémisphère , i would love it , sorry for mistakes im french
@@SynthDad i check it , really good content on your Channel , but i dont find any vidéo of install hémisphère on the ornement and crime , i would be very helpful because i serch for that for a long time and dont understand the manual for install it , i'm fucked
Some of the apps don't require a clock and can operate continuously; Quantermain, Quadraturia, Low-rents for example. Any square wave LFO will work as a clock source though
That depends on what you’re looking for (I know, not a great answer). O_C packs a lot of functionality into a small space and Sequins is a great example of that. But Scales is very playable and lets you make quick scale adjustments on the fly in a performance. So it’s down to what you’re looking to achieve. Personally I think O_C offers best value for money for the space it takes up
@@SynthDad sorry I meant audio/midi interface. would you recommend Pams as a solitary trigger source for all 50 modes? is there any mode Pams cannot trigger?
@@SynthDad yes. Looking at all 50 modes and reading the manual I wouldn’t want to buy a collection of modules just to operate these o_c modes. thank you!
It depends what part of the world you’re in as there are sellers in different countries. CalSynth, Plum Audio, After Later Audio and Pusherman UK are examples.
@@SynthDad yes that is what it is happening.. I'm a complete rookie with the oc. Starting to using it .. I didn't check which firmware version I got. I was told it is 1.3
