So true im working on my core as i have very weak core i was fedup and scared of injury so i stopped but it became worse now i have slowly started lifting weight even though it gives me pain initially but i take a break of a day or 2 but dont give up and realised it works if you fight the pain an keep going now i can finally bend right left front without pain thank god i dint listn to those doctors who told me dont pik weights as u have lower back issues it was all rubbish

Now I strength train 4 to 5 days a week, yoga 2 days and cardio of treks and forest walks. Am diabetic. Was on insulin from 2006 to 2022. Am out of insulin now and am on tablets. I lost about 20kgs weight through diet.I love all your shows. Lots of love and respects to you from Bengaluru.
I started wt trg at 68 after cycling n running n swimming for 6-7 yrs I consistently did wt trg without missing except Sunday being closed in open gym. Got lot of injuries but got these cured. Yr back I got back inj which lead to distortion in gait n numbness in r leg. I took breake for some time n was able to lift again. But 3 months back dead lift led to inj n I started feeing fatigue for the first time after exercise. X ray shows that in some portion of the spine has lost it s curve. Could I get back my original gait n stop numbness n regain the curve of the spine. I’m on protien diet since last more than one yr. take 6 hrs sleep also.

I am 34y medicine specialist looks like 25...I do little aerobics, weights,few yoga postures at 7-8 am....but most importantly choose healthy whenever u put something inside ur tummy. Plus balanced diet. Bf at 8-9am of- soaked seeds nut Dalia/oats/Samolina/vermicelli/poha Tea of-amla, ginger,lemon, ashwagandha, turmeric black pepper in early morning at 4-5 am

Dr. Pai has done a very good job of asking appropriate questions. I live in USA, I am 68 yrs old, I have exercised since a young age. I exercise six days a week 90% of time. I found your lecture very useful. I am sure you are a very busy person Sir. It will highly beneficial to millions of propel if you could develop a series of such tutorials with examples of exercises. I just loved the conversation. Very informative. Thanks to the both of you. I have been strength training since 7 years and as a woman, we are store house of fat and lesser muscle mass. It is probably twice as hard for women (am not even getting into female hormones failing us all the time). Would love to hear about nutrition in strength training women though. Absolutely loved the interview. So many theories behind why one should focus more on health and workouts explained. I learnt the hard way and been working out from 2.5 years. I am 40 and ran a few 10KM runs and 2 half marathons already. I see so much difference in the way I move on the day I eat a lot when compared to the day I follow the diet and be mindful. On the other hand, I see so many people doing ego lifts without any plan or guidance, sometimes even competing with the person next to them. This is so wrong.
Great podcast Dr.Pal. My appreciations to Dr. Santhosh, for being a living example. If he can do it with all his busy schedule anyone should be. I know all of us are busy too but what we choose matters.

This was an amazing interview. Dr. Santosh nailed every point, emphasizing that exercise is the best medicine that we all have to improve longevity and the quality of life. It is rightly said that we want to make sure that we prevent exercise injuries. The key concept that I always want to focus on is "Don't compare yourself with anybody." Start slowly and progress with aerobic training, strength training, balance, and flexibility. They all play a role in helping improve one's health, especially for the elderly. I recommend focusing on exercises that you do on a daily basis. Think about deadlifts. Think about squats. These are all movements that we do every day, and it's important to strengthen these movements rather than just focusing on machine-based exercises alone. Starting with machines is always good, but our goal should always be to transition to more functional movements that we do every day. I love the last point when Dr. Santosh mentioned choosing injuries versus the problems that come with a sedentary lifestyle. Obviously, injury prevention is more important. But slight aches and pains are common. The key is to modify activities during these times, and slowly our bodies adapt and we can continue to progress. Thank you once again to Dr. Santosh and Dr. Pal for this amazing interview.
Thank you so much for this. Its harder to convince parents when teenagers ask them to let them go to gym, they fear alot about injuries. Even some doctors say lifting weights will cause injuries which are life threatening. Thanks for clearing it up.
I've listened to many of your podcast and seen your RU-vid channel, excellent choice of guests and always been conducted in a very professional manner, generally not expected by a Doctor. Sir, this can happen only when there's a cause dedicated to in life. All the best for all your future endeavours. I have also noticed that you have an excellent exposure/ knowledge to South Indian culture and limited exposure to the culture of other parts of India, which you might think to explore more.
Good discussion. Exercise is good but stretching is also very important as we grow older. So don't forget about stretching. I incorportated yoga into my many years of weight training last year, and it helps me a lot. Yoga helps me understand which part of my body is lacking like balancing and which part & side of my muscles are weaker and need more work.

Muscle can grow at any age is what I tell my patients. I have a clinic in pune where I entirely concentrate on muscle to help with diseases. We even do diabetes revarsal.

thanks for all the advice of reducing of eating and drinking and sports activities, but the key point to take for me is to not to sleep late ... |and i did all the above and seriously took to sleep early by 10pm, and after 3-4months ..soon started to loosing weight ... and add-in some fasting at least one-two days in a week... on exercising there will be injuries if one doesn't do it right... keep it going both of you Drs for creating such Podcast...God Bless

Informative video and of a.reasonable standard as usually Dr manickam s videos are.But the Guest doctor Santosh is only 44 which is absolutely no old age by today's normal standards,I.myself am 62 and quite ok and in overall good functional condition physically which includes physical work out ,running and hiking and trekking.So ,apart from some titbits of information and caution that he provides,nothing so admirably inspiring.Dr Manickam has done better videos for sure
Yes i choose injury and i recover from it as i take risk the day i have pain i give a break for a day or 2 but i never give up now my core is getting better day by day where the doctors told me stop weight training if its paining in ur lower back but luckily i dint listen to them an kept on moving forward and now doing better

An excellent conversation. I am 74 and have been exercising for almost 50 years weighing just 69 kgs for my 173 cm height. I have been able to keep diabetes at bay for about 13 years (I was told in 2010 that diabetes was knocking at my door) seeing to it that my Hba 1c hovers around 5.7 to 5.9 with diet control and exercise. Now, my problem is that when I met an ortho for knee pain, I was told that the pain was due to age-related wear and tear of the knee and was advised to reduce my daily exercise by half. I don't know whether the reduction in my exercise will result in a higher Hba 1c next time when I go in for the test!
3 years back I had severe knee pain. They gave Euflexxa injections. I was not able to walk for 500 steps. I started doing recumbent bike, then was able to bike outside and am able to walk 2.5 miles, though it starts hurting. I am close to 59 years

Hi Dr Pal, After watching your fasting videos, my son aged 12 years is following fasting regularly to burn extra fat. He watches your videos regularly, after coming from school, his first video on RU-vid is your video. He is following all your videos strictly with great love for you and your advice, even though he is a foodie. We are staying in Singapore and my son nowadays hates junk foods and shares your videos with his friends. Please advise whether it's ok to take fasting at his age. This is not comment but a question. I am 70+ and I swim six days in a week. But my question is can I do breast stroke.(Of late I started along with free style) I feel pain in thigh joint(groin?). People say that it is normal as that particular muscle is not used all my life. What is your suggestion in this regard.
Swimming relaxes muscles and reduces weight bearing but gives amazing results with no injury. Learn if u don’t know walk in water and learn to be comfortable in it. Takes time but I’ll love it and it fun. Makes u feel young again.
