Another useful review, thank you. It's always nice to get an informed opinion, particularly about the somewhat peculiar traits of an unbacked self bow. Well done Sir, once more.

Thx for reviewing this osage bow. I'm looking to try one myself. I'm also reminded about how tricky it's getting, now that I have several bows, to remember the quirks of each one, and how to shoot them to get the best performance. I need to use a notebook. Also, I would like to say that I recently got a Sage 48" Shadow Youth bow, but I don't want anyone to know because it's a hoot, and I might want to get another one. ;-)

I´ve got the same bow. It´s twisted too. But it shoots fine for several thousends of arrows without breaking. So whoever is concerned about the twist- don´t worry about it. It´s made out of a natural product

Nice bow. Love that hole. Gives the bow some character. And yes, it isn't easy to tiller such a bumpy bow. Experienced that for myself two weeks back while building a flatbow out of ash.

This is a very very interesting bow review for me, thank you very much, Armin. Simply a sucker for anything where the string doesn't tuch the limbs. The limbs can have even propeller twist, it doesn't matter, until the string passes the riser and handle at the center. It should still shoot good then. This is the beauty of flat and longbows... of which I am a specialist. Its not a sin to shoot a longbow or flatbow with a thumb release anymore after I defiled some asiatic bows with Mediterranean....😂 More times than You. The lightning just missed me. I saved You, by doing that, obviously.😀 Again, like someone already remarked in other comment, this bow doesn't need so wide tips, tiller is allmost whip tiller, so also this gives it less efficiency. A beautiful bow, but just from looking it, one should expect average performance. Which is not always bad, such bows are much more forgiving as fast and nervous bows with light risers are. Good, honest review! Danke und Viele Grusse aus Slowenien!

I used a little masking tape to protect the leather wrap on my flagella dei bow. Doesn't add much to the diameter of the arrow pass, but stops the wrap damage.

I build osage bows and the tiller is not right. Needs to bend closer to the handle and have a graceful curve to the tips. With the tiller on that bow you will get more string follow causing the poundage to drop some and you loss speed. But it is a beautiful bow and it will work fine

Yes, as soon as it was on the tillering rig it was obvious the tiller was off. More so on the right side than the left. I have seen this in other flagella dei bows as well. Mostly the "primitive" ones. I have quite a few bows from them and do like them a lot but sometimes I wonder if they need some more quality checking before shipping. It's a bit of a coin toss sometimes.

Reading the comments I was beginning to think, is it only me here who can clearly see this bow is whip ended. The tiller is all wrong and have seen it several times before from this bowyer.

How do the asymmetrical Japanese bows work? I've seen people mention you get more power by holding it in the center, but then I don't get the Japanese bows.
@CloudfeatherRusticWorks

Locking it at full draw on the tillering tree for extended periods of time isn't a very great idea, either. Lol
@Daylon91
@Daylon91 3 года назад
@@dokstrange6891 Japanese bows are like that because of the handshock issue with holding a bow in the center. The Japanese held it off centre like way off centre to prevent hand shock and it made Japanese assymetrical bows work on horseback for having a short lower limb and longer upper limb allowing you to draw 34" not fast bows but accuracy was the order of the day. Different philosophies opposite of the Turks who shot many arrows and thought shooting one arrow accurately was useless over shooting many arrows accurate enough.

I have a 66# English long bow from Flagella Dei and love it. It has a bit of hand shock, but not bad. The tips are quite beefy, so... It has taken only minor set after a year and a half of regular shooting. I can reach about 170 meters with it. And it has turned the most beautiful orange/rust color. That yellow wood turns dark orange after a while. I have made a couple of 40# flat bows using the Osage Orange from Flagella Dei, one of them I recurved the tips, but mine have tips about half the width as this bow you've reviewed. My bows have zero hand shock. This bow here doesn't need the tips to be so wide. Osage is an amazing wood and I think they have overcompensated out of fear of breakage. Great video, as always. One day I will come to visit you in Malta. Peace.

Limb tips are waaaay to wide! Narrow those tips down and you will notice a vast difference in performance. That will also kill most of the handshock and vibration. Also tiller looks off and pulling to 32" just weakened the draw weight. Ive built many many many osage bows. Find out what draw weight they tillered that bow to and never draw it past that. It will ruin the bow if you do.

I asked a traditional English bowyer whether a taper tool he was selling would be ok for bamboo shafts. He responded with "traditional longbows don't shoot bamboo arrows". He's going to hate me lol.

If this limbs have bent after a few shoots and it’s a new bow them is this not a major problem?

The church bells are a lovely touch! Now I’d like to address the elephant in the room. There’s a hole in the limb. And an asymmetrically placed hole at that! Wouldn’t that compromise the strength of the limb? Wouldn’t the limb be prone to twisting over time? Is there a point to the hole? Inquiring minds want to know........
@VladMcMerlin

The tips are large, so the string twists them? If the tips were thinner, it wouldn't happen?

Cool looking primitive bow. Armin, were you tempted to shoot an arrow through the hole? As for provoking the elder gods: Thunnor was obviously distracted that day and Woden had a dental appointment. Flaxen Saxon.

Watching this video.....Just before second shot after" whatever God you believe in, strike me down" comment....BEEP BEEP BEEP...US National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm in your area....Beep Beep Beep🤦‍♂️ I aint laughing any more! Lets just say you got my ATTENTION. Its that dang Maltese Daoist heathen....He made me watch it! KIDDING about the heathen part LOL Hey, I was a bit startled. Didnt mean to throw you under the bus 🤣 May have been because I was in Indiana and not my home? Still perfect timing! On a different matter....Would the twisting at the tips rob the bow of some potential speed? It surely wouldnt be as efficient, I would assume? It is pretty though. I love Osage Orange. I have it growing here on my farm. I have a split log in the barn curing, as I type this. Might get up the energy, to try and make a self bow out of it! Nice video again, Sir! Thank you

I don't like the bow. A pyramid bow should bend a lot more next to the handle to take advantage of the great width in the area. In this bow, that area doesn't seem to be storing energy when drawn, which means higher moving weight less efficiency. Me no like the tiller
