Floyd never too the rematch cluase instead retired 1 year and 1 day.... the new era of boxing was born choosing and picking opponents who are right for you.
I saw it back in the day and Oscar was definitely the aggressive moving forward I know he won but for some reason they gave it to Floyd who was scared to fight Pacquiao in his prime
I agree about Manny, but Oscar lost that fight. I have watched it many times and it's clear as day that he just wasn't landing significant strikes on Floyd.
@@Ro7ardno you haven’t 🥱 How tf do you say Manny beat Floyd and Oscar didn’t when Oscar had a closer fight than Manny did against Floyd ? Bruh you niggas in the comments say some dumbass shit I swear
He definitely beat Floyd, but Floyd also never ducked a fight.Pacquiao failed drug testing when they were going to fight. Not Floyd’s fault. When they did fight Floyd was older and out of his prime.Theres always excuses with Floyd. At the end of the day he fought and beat them all…to make him the Goat of his division and that’s facts.
Dela Hoya won that fight and was catching Floyd with combinations on the rope,Floyd just was looking pretty catching most of his shots on Oscar's glove.
I watched that right and was actually going for de la Hoya and thought he was robbed That was until I watched the slow motion reels 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 u would’ve thought de la Hoya was touching him lol Didn’t even hit him most of those times I was amazed and made me a believer of Floyd No hate it is what it is
I’m Filipino-American but I grew up a huge De La Hoya fan. And it was so sad watching him get absolutely dismantled by Pacquiao, even though I was also a Pacquiao fan. I personally think Mayweather is the most overrated champ. I think he lost against Oscar & Jose Castillo. And he almost lost to Zab Judah
Don’t forget his first fight against maidona , look at Mayweather’s body language and face when they announce him as winner of that fight , it was so obvious that he was surprised ,his body language and face say it all all
Now while Oscar had some bad beats on terrible decisions (most notable vs Trinidad, and vs Mosley - 2) this one was not. I had Oscar up after 8 rounds 5-3, but he gassed out, and was tired letting Floyd turn it up and win the Final 4 Rounds and the fight 7-5. If Oscar wins one of those last 4 rounds its a legit draw, but Floyd's long term condition was better than most and definitely better than De LA Hoyas this fight. But a very good fight none the less Just my humble
De La Hoya got hosed in the fights you mentioned. Gave Trinidad a beating, they say he ran the last 3 rounds ??? Compustat showed he land 75% more punches in the last 3 rounds. And I surely give Mosley 2 to Oscar as well, And I think as champion here, he could have got the decision. they have had it in for Oscar, He has ALWAYS fought the best, I think he's one of the greatest ever to step in the ring. My humble O
@bayouboy8644 I'm guessing you misunderstood my post. I also think De Lahoya was robbed in Trinidad 1 and Mosley 2. And I also think Oscar was a true champion who fought everyone. But also with the same clear eyes that Floyd was down 5-3 to Oscar and Floyd took the last 4 rounds cause Oscar Faded. It's my honest perception. Just my Humble
Ya I had Floyd by a couple rounds in this fight. Oscar had the early lead and Floyd and team banked on the aging Oscar gassing down the stretch, which they alluded to in the corner during the fight also (Floyds team). I also had Oscar pretty handily beating Mosley in rematch and Trinidad. Mosley 1 was a legit loss for Oscar and this Floyd fight but Oscar was also 6 years or more past prime facing Floyd. (also dealing with his addictions too by then) I think Oscar peaked around 1997-99 if memory serves. It is disgusting they robbed him in 2 of his biggest career defining fights (Tito and Mosley 2)
Oscar won that fight. You have to beat the champion clearly to take his title. This is why Floyd fought the majority of his fights in Las Vegas and never out of the US. He was always assured of the outcome. He also lost to Maldana 1 and Castillo clearly beat him.
I’ve never agreed with that stupid idea. 💁🏼♂️ Where exactly in the rules of boxing does it say that? Have you even ever thought about what you just parroted? To win the boxing contest you win the boxing contest. Period. You can’t say the other guy won because he only lost by 1 round. That’s the rules. 🤷🏼♂️ You don’t get a handicap because you have the belt. That’s totally made up.
@shambles2723 when you have 2 of 3 judges in your pocket, what difference does it make how the third one sees the fight? I missed the part where I mentioned Canelo.
😂😂😂 you don’t know shit about boxing. Oscar was the star not Floyd. Oscar picked the judges the gloves the weight you name it 😂 the delusion and bias is honestly laughable
I was watching this PPV with a bunch of friends, and every single one of us gave it to Oscar by a nose. I've always wanted to tell Delahoya that, and assure him that he did actually win.
I saw this fight live and I will say until the day I die, De La Hoya won this fight. Anyone disagrees with me can just kiss my ass. And not the left cheek and not the right cheek, but right down the middle.
then you scored shots by mayweather that were blocked by de la hoya's gloves, you didnt score de la hoya's body shots which were some of the hardest, cleanest punches in the fight, you didnt score for effective aggression and ring generalship, or all of the above. Your scorecard is beyond the realm of objective possibilities if you know how to score a fight.
The comment section is a great reflection of how humanity operates on a large scale, blinded by emotional biases. You can’t trust most people, I figured that out more than anything during covid
Making Mayweather the all-time great is beyond laughable. Imagine him against Roberto Duran in Duran's prime, and no sense at all to put Floyd in the ring with Sugar Ray Robinson, who IS!!! the best fighter of all time!
@@delmarfo ... Really? Argue with Ring Magazine, not me delmar. You most likely know ZERO about Ray Robinson, and won't bother to research him to learn why EVERY boxing mag, and experts like Teddy Atlas, Angelo Dundee, etc. place Sugar Ray Robinson as the ALL-TIME pound for pound champ, and certainly above Mayweather! Do your homework and find out why! There will not be movies made about your man. Why do you think Raging Bull was made? Yes, fighting Robinson was that big of a deal for LaMotta ... AND, I doubt you know of LaMotta either!!!
@@FlorentStuartKetchamiTchouleng ... omg! ... Duran was WAY past his prime as the greatest lightweight the world had yet seen, in your "examples". His prime is where he got his "Hands of Stone" name, and where he would have pulverized Mayweather, who would have kept up turning his shoulders, backing up, running as long as he could, before Hands of Stone took him out in the fourth or fifth. No contest, toe to toe, and Mayweather could hide for only so long!
I watched that fight live, and several times since. The best Oscar could have hoped for was a draw but the judges got this one right. Much respect to Oscar though; a warrior and one of my favorites.
Slipping and blocking isn't on a bike. He outlander Oscar a lot. Delusional Floyd haters in denial as usual. Ali had the same type of fools sooking about him when he made his opponents miss. Just redneck dumbasses
@@Stateballrus Floyd wasn't on his bike, he stood against the ropes and let Oscar throw ineffective flurries which he rolled, slipped or blocked. There are four criteria used to score a round in boxing. 1. Effective Agression 2. Ring Generalship 3. Defense 4. Clean Hard Punches. Oscar wild flurries weren't effective, and Mayweather get's credit for his defense, not to mention he landed the more clean punches. People don't understand, that when you throw a wild flurry against Mayweather and he makes you miss, that's scored for him. Mayweather is the most accurate puncher in the history of the point, hence why most fight will always be scored him. In the 2nd half of his career, he didn't throw as much, but when he did he landed clean and at a higher percentage than anyone else. He punches were clean, and his defense was off the charts. If you know boxing, He wont this fight easily 9-3. Good defense scores you points despite what people may believe. Floyd isn't a runner, which is someone just constantly moving around the ring so that neither fighter is ever in range to engage. He's defensive but he''s stand right there in front of you and let you throw wild flurries. He scores by making you miss, and countering. It also tires fighters out hence why so many guys seem to mysterious gas in the late rounds against him. People really need to learn how pro boxing works. It's not simply counting punches like the amateurs.
The fight could’ve gotten anyway. It’s closer than we remember, Mayweather even went on a fake retirement to avoid the rematch, and even Floyd se though his own son lost
@@mountaindew3201 he rematch didn’t happen because De La Hoya wanted him to agree to the same terms. He wasn’t willing to fight Floyd @ 47, but he killed him self to fight Manny @ that weight. Go figure.
@@NattyTurnaOfficial BS, theirs was a clause and mayweather went to fake retire to avoid the rematch. the weight class wasn’t an issue, de la Hoya would’ve done it at 147 since 155 was too much for Mayweather.
@@mountaindew3201 the money and weight was a issue. De La Hoya wouldn’t accept that yesterday’s price is not today’s price. He came back at the end of the year and fought Hatton, and proved that fact. You don’t know what you are talking about at all.
@@NattyTurnaOfficial the rematch was in no plans for 2007. But there was a clause that would’ve expired within 2 years. And that’s exactly what Mayweather did by going to his fake retirement and then he retired
I always thought Oscar should have gotten the decision. It was a good fight though and close enough to go Mayweather by less than honest Judges. I think a 25 year old De la hoya would have won a clear decision or possibly a knockout. Two of the best of their era for sure.
Ive watched that fight several times. Floyd won hands down. Oscar threw more punches but they were mostly arm punches. The better and more consistent work come from Mayweather.
Not a big DLH fan (at least as a promoter) but despite being way past his best, he is right - he really did win that fight! Every time I have watched it since, still the same verdict as the first time. They robbed DLH. Just like they did to Maidana and Castillo. He must have rented out his judge and referee to Haney against Garcia too. Too obvious. Sell outs.
😂😂 you literally should give up watching boxing. Floyd landed way more punches than Oscar and controlled the entire fight. Oscar was hitting Floyd's arms all night. In no universe did Oscar win that fight.
Oscar is one of the greatest, he beat so many great fighters, whenever he lost to Trinidad, Mosley, and Mayweather it was controversial. He should be 42-2
@@raymondcody1858 you wanted Floyd to lose. That’s all that is lol. He didn’t. Get over it. 3 judges said otherwise in both fights. Fights that appear close. Somebody wins and somebody loses. And if Floyd lost I definitely wouldn’t crying about it 22 years later 😂😂😂😂. Clown. Get over it.
Watching it that night i had mayweather winning 8-4, rewatching it tonight knowing how to properly watch and score a fight I had it 7-4 De la hoya with round 8 even. It seems you were/are judging by emotion and smoke and mirrors and thumping sounds of punches being blocked both times as opposed to seeing the fight properly and scoring it properly. Neither time youve watched it have you actually understood what you were watching properly
Accuracy won the fight that night. Oscar was doing the mexican style pitbull cruz type of boxing but floyd is the master of defense and the philly shell so he made oscar look silly at times . Im a huge oscar fan but mayweather was just next level
Floyd won, not by much it was clear. Cleaner shots, more accurate. Oscar was sloppier with the flurries. Im a oscar fan also. If oscar was more aggressive and a bit more accurate then he would’ve won.
Oscar won by outboxing Floyd by beating him n the inside counter punches Oscar always got the better of it Floyd sr himself said Oscar won by points so how do you explain that huh with excuses
Yes but he looked even worse against a past prime Pernal Whitaker Chickenhoya looked like amateur against a Boxing clinic of Whitaker 😅😅 Much better than Gaywhetthwr
If Oscar won he would have been given the victory. He was the more popular fighter. Floyd was the villain. So Floyd showed more skill and ring control. Oscar abandoned the jab and was constantly countered.
That's right. Oscar was the cash cow. Mayweather had never fought at 154. Smaller ring. Bigger gloves. Etc, even with everything against, Floyd still won. Not by a lot, but he won
@@michaelangelo5580 Oscar was the face of boxing. The more popular fighter. Floyd was the young upstart villain. Oscar would only fight him if he moved up to 154. Floyd wasn't even 154 on fight night. Hell he couldn't weight 154 soak and wet. Oscar probably came in 160+ pounds that night. Oscar chose the weight, gloves, ring size, location, purse split, ring girls, and probably the damn clean up crew. He put everything in his favor to win the fight and still lost. Like you said, it was close but Floyd still won. Oscar is still pissed because Floyd never gave him a rematch. Floyd had to practically beg and insult Oscar to get a shot and wanted Oscar to beg him for a rematch but Oscar had too much pride for that and basically said FK off. "I'll never beg your little azz" LOL.
@@takedat8751 yes, most ppl don't realize what Floyd had to do to get the fight. The judges were always going to favor Oscar. But even they saw Floyd winning. I thought it was close, but clear that Floyd won. Floyd nearly knocked Oscar out too with a counter in round 5
People forget at this point de la Hoya was inactive, towards the end of his career, and was previously KOed, pretty much over the hill and no where near what he once was.
Oscar said he was an old 33. Which means he was already worn by then. He had already had a full career. He was a gold medalist plus a fighter that fought them all.
Watch the fight back with 0 volume. Oscar did win that fight. Oscar was the effective aggressor. Oscar was the ring general. Oscar pressed the action and landed more punches. Floyd missed A LOT of punches in that fight. Floyd's back was against the ropes the entire time. Floyd hit Oscars gloves all night. Many of Floyd's punches were not landed punches even though they were counted as landed punches. Even Floyd Mayweather Sr admitted to Larry Merchant that Oscar beat his son inside the ring right after the fight was finished🤷If Floyd loses that fight then the whole trajectory of boxing would have changed for the better. Instead, we are now left with a sport where "picking opponents" is the norm and fighting the best is simply a thing of the past. But I scored the fight 115-113 for Oscar. Oscar won the middle rounds with ease. And keep in mind that Oscar was old at this time...And he STILL beat Mayweather imo💯
@@regularbob yes please watch the fight with zero volume. Lampley and Merchant were HATING on floyd like a usual HBO fight. This was floyds first fight at 154 (came in weighing in at 150) and de la hoya outweighed him at least 15 pounds on fight night. De la hoya made mayweather wear those big heavyweight gloves instead of choosing any other gloves floyd was comfortable with. Watch them standing in front of each other and see how much bigger floyds gloves are. Floyds back was on the ropes because he wants to be on the ropes. He moves around the ring and he is so comfortable that he can lean on the ropes and not get hit. He was slipping in counter punches every time after oscar threw a bunch of punches. A perfect example is the 5th round when oscar was throwing and mayweather had him stumble, landing shots from oscar being so wild. He literally moves the same way in every fight. And how is this "picking opponents?" Oscar was the WBC light middleweight champion. He had been calling out de la hoya for YEARS before de la hoya actually fought him. Now i do think it was a close fight so im not saying mayweather won every round... but im curious.. what did your scorecard look like? which rounds did you give to oscar? Lederman is very accurate (imo) when it comes to judging and he still gave the fight mayweather. And who cares what mayweather sr said? Hes not a judge and he was barely a fighter lmao. Hes a great trainer but there was a lot of drama between mayweather and his father around that time. His dad had left his sons gym to get help another fighter cause he felt unappreciated in his sons camp. Of course he was salty lmao
I can't stand Mayweather. He's a coward and ducked people who were in their prime. But he won this fight. I'm a De La Hoya fan, for me he's the opposite of Mayweather. He fought all comers and didn't wait or hesitate.
Floyd out boxed De La Hoya . Just checkbthe slo motion replays he did not land those punches on the flurries he threw. They were either blocked or slipped .
Oscar done well in that fight considering how good floyd was at that time but Floyd won that fight he definitely landed the cleaner shots . Both men are legends.
This is the most ridiculous comments section I’ve ever seen. I was an Oscar fan but Floyd clearly won. Oscar abandoned his jab late and that’s why he lost.
flloyd missed 95% of his punches also, he just missed by oscar blocking the punches with his gloves so they still made a thumping sound and convinced novices probably like you that they were landing as opposed to when de la hoya missed it was because flloyd was dodging the punches.
@@austinlittke7688 when this fight happened I was like 3 years old but I’ve seen it on RU-vid and it was a close fight. I don’t really go for neither to be honest, maybe more Oscar since I’m Mexican and I live in Mexico but he did miss a lot of punches.
Floyd lost not only with Oscar ,Maidana , Castillio and even Manny but ut is more bussi ess then boxing so they need to keep him with the 0 shit to sell he s fights .
FLOYD BEAT OSCAR. IF OSCAR WOULD HAVE KEPT JABBING MORE HE WINS. WATCH THE FIGHT YOU CAN SEE WHEN HE WAS JABBING FLOYD WAS IN RETREAT. MISTAKE HE MAID WAS HE TRIED TO EXCHANGE WITH FLOYD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING.
U gta be a true R if u think Floyd won. Even his daddy said Oscar won. I like both boxers. Fans of both tbh but I gta call it like I saw it. It was close but Oscar won it.
