See the Way Oscar Robertson plays defense it'll be hard for Stephen Curry to score

When motivated...and I don't think Oscar would have a fun time chasing curry off ball

The rules have changed. No hand-checking allowed now. Players could go through screens more then.

When I watch games like this I really ask myself how is it possible to say that today's NBA is better and that players are more skilled and that defenders defend more, only a blind person will say that, 'cause man this was a great game!!!!

confirms what I thought in the Wilt vs. Kareem video highlights of the same game. Jerry had an off game. He had some moments but he missed a lot of shots he normally makes and he had some bad turnovers and decisions that he usually didn't have. Looked a little tired. Oscar looked strong on D and sure footed and protected his dribble well. He didn't look like a more spry younger version of himself but still looked good.

Huge thanks for this. I've seen Wilt vs. Kareem and Wilt vs. Russell videos but Robertson-West ones are hard to find

Oscar here is way past his peak prime which was before 1966. I saw it all from the late 50s on & the 60s was the golden era of the NBA. The Oscar before '66 was the greatest player the game will ever know because of the rules & expansion. Oscar in his peak prime was the best at nearly everything.

The rules for travelling were way stricter then. It was a step and a half. Now it's a step and a half and who's looking.

Old school fact...you can hear the refs whistle, the ball bouncing on the floor, and the sneakers squeaking...like an actual game and not a "show".

They look slow because of the absence of a shot clock and three point shot. If you pull up videos of the ABA of the same era it will remind you of the NBA today.

Respect to the OG’s but there’s no way in hell these two could play in the G-League now. 💯

They would be first team all-pro. It would take a few weeks to adjust to no-defense but basketball is 90% genetics and these guys had the one in a million genes. I used to watch Jerry West in practice at Loyola gym. On the 3 on 2 drills, he made the court seem tiny. Remember, in the 60's, only the top 9 college players found room in the NBA. Now, they find some tall Somali shepherd and he's on the roster.

You couldn’t palm the ball and you could only take one step before dribble. Now you can carry and take three steps. Very different game because of this. It controls the bigger players who can’t dribble.

Idk how u can watch these highlights and not seee how far ahead of their time these guys were especially Jerry west. He looks like a 60s player with a mid 80s- early 90s skillset in terms of scoring. Everytime i watch these old highlights im always blown away by how ahead of his time he was

Honestly. The athleticism seems low and slow. And as for the Bigs, give me Shaq, the Joker or the Dream.
@johnnythekid4601

Rules of the time is what caused this. Lebron and all the "superior" players of today would be forced to play the same way. and would look the same

@@WinstonNewYorkyou make giannis dribble palm face down and see how fast he can run the break😂😂...it wouldn't be half as fast

@@WinstonNewYork also did you know Oscar got as heavy as 230, and could touch 19 inches above the rim?...hes also number 3 in the all time MPG leaders in the fastest paced era
@williamwalker146

@@WinstonNewYork Additionally, Wilt was 35 and had several knee surgeries behind him, and it's obvious too when you compare against 60s footage of Wilt. Robertson and West were also near the end of their careers. Wilt retired two years later and Robertson and West three years later.
