5 years ago I escaped New York City to start a small organic farm in the countryside. We’re poor but happy. My wife raises the children. We homeschool of course. Turns out there is a Christian Greek Orthodox monastery nearby. I have spent quite a bit of time with the monks there and learning a lot about the lost knowledge of the desert Fathers. Rejecting modernity isn’t that hard, you just have to decide. I’m going to be baptized, learn Ancient Greek, be the spiritual leader of my family and maybe even one day attain some wisdom! Imposition is the correct word. In their ideal world, no stone would be left unturned, and even the Siberian farmer, or the high altitude shepherd on the Tibetan plateau will be forcibly digitised. No one will be left alone. These people, who hate their own material and spiritual realities, would have us all corrupted for their sake. @@Gogglesofkrome Tall poppy syndrome thanks you for your curious comment. After all, why should anyone be happy with what their parents' combined genes gave them? @Gogglesofkrome

@@seanoneil277 If you even knew a fraction of my politics, you'd find that you're purely working off of assumptions, because I don't believe that even for a second. When I said "We have excusive access over it," I meant the person who owns it, and has it attatched to their body. If anything, augmentation will allow for hyper-individuality to become a common thing; you'll have all sorts of bizarre phenomenon taking place as people increasingly modify themselves into entirely different shapes and functions, be it for their own tastes, or for the needs of their workplace. something like this would of course be bizarre, but also likely limited to the few people who could afford it, unless these things could be made widely available to the public.
@seanoneil277
@seanoneil277 2 года назад
@@Gogglesofkrome Thank you for that, but my position stands even more firmly upon reading your longer explanation. Maybe you don't see it, but it's obvious to me. Specifically, if you want "augmentation," or choose to defend it, then you somehow find your natural body inadequate and thus believe your genetic inheritance is in need of modification. Don't know why anyone would feel that way. But science fiction often is read or seen as a prediction of what must be, rather than as the fiction it is.

@@Fed-tt6cp It is forced christian altruism that opened the floodgates for hordes of non-whites to demographically replace us in our own countries because "We are all equal in the eyes of God". Christianity has always been a slave-religion based on slave-morality. It seeks to deny nature, to deny the only reality in front of your very eyes, in favour of a made-up construct called heaven. In my personal experience, there is MUCH more wisdom to be found in the polytheistic religions of ancient Greece, aswell as the old Norse/ Germanic religion of Wodan/ Odin rather than the bible. The bible, particually the Old Testament has some genuinely interesting stuff, but in the end it just isn't Europe's religion. I could go on and on about my problems with christianity. Excellent video Morgoth. I like the idea of Carthage as Germany and America as the new Roman republic, Germany being the home of the old religion (in this case Protestantism, created by Luther) and the US being the home of the new religion (materialistic capitalism and technology) which has to crush the old. Germany is of course heavily forested and the forest is symbolic of an older primeval order, paganism, magic and the subconscious mind - all things that are anathema to the new technological order where everything is mapped out for us.

Spengler was probably aware of Robert Mickels’ “Iron Law of Oligarchy” outlined in the book he published in 1911. Aka “Money Power”. The technocracy appears to have succeeded in establishing a level of materialism that causes most people to be satisfied enough to give up almost every other aspect of their lives to ensure that security and comfort is never taken away from them. The only way to disrupt that kind of slow blink rate existence is something catastrophic which forces people to adapt or die. Sadly most of us will be lacking that skill. On the positive side, a massive cull might stimulate an innovation Renaissance much like the one in Europe after the Black Death.

Modern day materialism surely have a hypnotic effect, and all cultures are being affected. Perhaps Japan is the most nightmarish example; the Japanese literally work themselves to death, and those who survive until pension die alone.

@@borisnegrarosa9113 Yes true. People often (rightly so tbh) praise Japan mostly because of its optics, and a few important things like homogeneity, no SJW entertainment etc but they’re still rotten to the core, aesthetically invisible in comparison to the west where the rot is visible to the naked eye, but they still live in atheistic, hellish consumerism/economy based lives, still have a massive incel epidemic, even worse than here despite their women being way better, and the modern culture/entertainment is still sexualised to the max. It’s all happened rather quickly I think. I mean modern anime is smut but anime from late 90’s to mid 2000’s isn’t. Same with their vidya games. Modern JRPG’s are unplayable harem drivel. I’d rather live in current Japan than Britain from the last few decades if I was of rootless persuasion but still, it is actually quite a bad existence where in some of the most important ways, just like our own here. The stories of people working to death doing mundane clerical and (lower) middle class type office/corporate jobs are crazy. Even in like 1910 normal working class people didn’t work more than 90 something hours a week, granted it was backbreaking. They try to be as machine like as they can, like a kiosk or spreadsheet as a human. Their economy is probably more competitive and unforgiving than a caveman style life, but there’s almost no reward unless you do really well and become quite wealthy, then you can have a proper detached house with a garden of sorts, and pretty wife and kids. I wouldn’t take that existence but I would easily trade Japanese loveless anime loser over my own western version of that. I don’t think there’s a whole lot of differentiating between the worse and more middle class lives in Japan, in west it’s a bit more varied. The baseline is better though.

Sheep Farming Tip: Historically to achieve flock control the farmer ‘marks’ each sheep with an individual ID, and that ‘mark’ enables the farmer to identify his flock, and any individual sheep that has escaped from the farm. The 21st century sheep farmer knows that better flock control is achieved by allocating a smart digital ID mark (QR code etc) to each sheep. These digital identification marks are tracked 24/7 by a AI smart surveillance system across the entire farm, which harvests additional biometric data (gait, facial recognition, height, weight etc) to add to existing veterinary DNA profile of each animal. Tracking all movement on the farm, the AI smart surveillance system will quickly establish a detailed digital database of each individual animal’s physiological characteristics, emitted sounds, physical movements and general habits. The AI smart surveillance system will also target any individual sheep that fails to display a verified identification mark, this will enable the farmer to intercept that animal and retrospectively perform marking and data capture for the farm inventory. Flock behaviour can also be strictly controlled 24/7 by offering appropriate psychological and physiological nudges (incentives and disincentives) and monitoring resultant compliance via the AI smart surveillance system. This will enable the 21st century sheep farmer to minimise expenditure on expensive land, even dispense with all fencing and minimise the number of sheep dogs needed, and yet will retain strict 24/7 control of his entire flock. Typically most sheep like the extra security and feel very safe being watched over 24/7. However it’s natural for some defiant animals to deviate from the prescribed behaviours on the farm. In such cases the farmer can deploy the sheep dogs to capture the animal for retraining or slaughter. Such technology reduces the farm operating costs, maintains 24/7 control of the flock, and keeps the sheep feeling safe. Q: why wouldn’t the wise 21st century sheep farmer employ such a system?

I, like you, also yearn for a counterpoint to this overweening and soulless worldview which consumes everything and everyone in its path. But having seen how all churches here have bowed so submissively and cowardly to the new God of Covid over the past twenty months, I'm not so sure. The new defence needs to come from without the churches now, compromised with the world as they are. Something that I realized far too late: when you don't understand something, you're by default ceding power to those who do. While it's not possible to know how everything works, you can do your best/join groups of others and combine knowledge. The vast majority of the world's population have no understanding of the most critical technologies of our society: cars, computers, electricity, internet, food production. All of these industries have been or are being co-opted by our overlords. And I think people are starting to realize this en masse, but that pill is too bitter for most to swallow so they equivocate and lash out at anyone/anything trying to push it into their consciousness.

Another great video, Morgoth. I seem to remember Spengler writing that Japan was also analogous to Carthage. Japan was also caught up in a frenzy of modernisation by 1919, when Spengler wrote the Decline of the West. Japanese traditionalists vehemently criticised this process labelling it 'Americanisation' a specific undesirable form of modernity. They warned that Japan should not blindly follow the money driven, consumerist model of America. Will you be doing 'something cosy' again this Christmas? Look forward to it.

Spent a couple decades in Tokyo, and one thing I can say is that as hide bound and stiff necked as the Japanese can be, they will at least be around and have their own culture and nation in a hundred years…unlike the west which has been divided against itself by multiculturalism and mass immigration of non-assimilable cultures. The Japanese seem to be one of the only modern nations that has successfully defended itself from the predatory tribe of small hats and globalists.

I personally would disagree with the beginning statement “optimism is for cowards”, for it is the cynical, pessimistic, hopeless mind that sees no way out and so becomes numb to the world, and so becomes machine like, and adds to the greater machine. Yet it’s the optimist mind that feels the pain, and the despair, and says no more, and out of the darkness arises a determination and a hidden power within to bring change for a better way.

To assume that human progression is a linear process is a somewhat a simplistic view point . We feel that now is a great turning point , yet history is littered with such examples . The natural world is governed by the availability of resources , we have stepped to some degree away from such limitations . But at no small cost to our place in the grate scheme of things . We are very good at assuming we are the be all and end all of everything , yet I fancy we are far from such importance . Do we really think if we were all to disappear tomorrow the earth would morn our passing . We occupy a smudge upon the earths surface , and what ever damage we feel so conceited about will be but a blip in its existence . What fools us mortals be

18:02 Since nobody else would do that, it has to be mentioned that the analogy with ancient Rome and ancient Carthage is _completely off_ when mapped unto 19th century Anglo-German rivalry. *Prussia* - the only relevant principality within the Westernizing liberal German empire was originally a 'frontier' state and fashioned itself to ancient *Macedon* - utilizing Hellenic military tactics of phalanx warfare and cultivating Greek culture - but really remaining _pastoral_ at heart - that is the ideal of the East Prussian 'Yunker' who is still invested into an *_agrarian_* economy and at odds with banking that has indebted farmland with the rise of cheap *American and Ukrainian grain* - which explains German military expansion into the Black Sea even until today. While ancient Carthage was _the 'mercantile' power per se_ of shrewd *overseas trade* and large *mercenary contigents, instead of a citizen militia* - where _human sacrifice of infants_ was still practized - although 'outsourced' to slave victims, sparing aristocratic firstborns and thereby corrupting any meaning of sacrifice. In fact, Roman propaganda was based on a antagonism between Punic corruption and Latin, _rustic frugality_ - with any Greek sophistication loathed - a cultural trait still persistent in Roman Catholicism where quasi 'military discipline' outweighs all theological subtlety.

Spengler seems to me to rely a lot on a form of faith in cycles that have repeated and therefore will continue to repeat. Many economics experts take a similar view of cycles that repeat, as do some climate forecasters. I'd like to suggest that cycles only repeat until something significant changes in the system generating them. Such a change could occur now and end the cycles.
@williamhad
@williamhad 2 года назад
If you read Spengler you'll see that he actually doesn't posit civilization as a cycle, but a morphology. People just say "cycle" because they are speaking lazily. Spengler doesn't believe that winter is followed by spring unless a new civilization emerges out of the ashes of the old (which is historically unlikely).
@lindosland
@lindosland 2 года назад
@@williamhad Interesting comment. I did read Spengler about thirty years ago, so perhaps it's time to look again! You would seem to agree then that it might be possible to stop what is happening by introducing a new factor. What if I suggest that the new factor is an understanding of human interactions, motivations and society in terms of evolutionary psychology? That the Scientific enlightenment set in motion the technological age in which engineers provided the things that fed a hedonistic age, while leaving ideas about society to the random whims of non-scientists like Rousseau. If science had concentrated on understanding the world (the true function of science), rather than feeding human greed, might we have created a society that fed our instinctive need for fulfilment through our interactions, while recognising the tendency of pleasure seeking to make us unhappy - something Christianity got half right but without reasons?
@williamhad
@williamhad 2 года назад
@@lindosland I think we should not forget how power operates and the possibility of bad actors. The problem I see with your hypothesis is that scientific enlightenment concentrates power into technology. The more technology advances the more powerful people that own technology become. Given this, I don't see how enlightenment can lead to anything other than algorithms being used to enslave people. I think we're likely to end up in a dystopia like in Bladerunner. I know Spengler wrote on technology but I have not read those books by him. Forgive my comment if it has errors. I am writing from my phone

Remember though, there's no such thing as perpetuity. The powers that be may think they can end cycles but that itself is a fairy tale because nothing can sustain itself indefinitely. It's destined to fail one way or another, though it's hell whatever trajectory is taken because it converges on the same endpoint.
@lindosland
@lindosland 2 года назад
@@williamhad Your answer is interesting in demonstrating a basic simple misunderstanding that I might be up against. You seem to assume that science is only a route to technology. No, technology might be seen as it's evil consequence, even to the extreme that Ted Kaczynski told us it was. To men like Erasmus Darwin, Joseph Priestley (Lunar men at the heart of the Enlightenment), and even Crick and Watson later on, science was a means to understanding life. Such understanding cannot be 'owned', and you should not assume that it can be turned into a controlling algorithm. I am reluctant to say more, because I believe I have some important key realisations, which should be a subject of a book or film of my own. I believe that there are some key points which, if widely understood, could neutralise the problem we currently face.
