Eszter Szucs I totally agree, its still one of my favourite Eurovision songs. Ott gave a fantastic performance, such a brilliant voice, also drop dead gorgeous too ❤
I think this song is a big example for understand that a big song with a lot of passion and talent doesn't need to be singing in English for excited the audience.
Estonia has only sung in Estonian three times since the language rule was abolished, and they qualified every time. Who says singing in your own language is a disadvantage?
It is sad, but it is a disadvantage. Now that most songs are in English, it can also be a way to differ from others. In early days when every country had to sing with own language, the voting was discriminating. I know as a Finn that many of our songs didn't deserve to be on the top, but it was laughable to see, how Finnish good song lost to very bad song performed by UK, Ireland or Malta in English. They changed the rule, but the mediocrity still wins most of the time. Norway is an exception by winning with lovely Nocturne. Ott Lepland is so hugely talented performer that with him the language is not a barrier. But this is my point: to be successful with small language, you have to be superior, heads and shoulders above others. Ott Lepland and Estonia should have won this competition. I admit my bias as a Finnish speaker, but this is one of the best performances ever in Eurovision Song Contest.
In English a pretty bad song may qualify just because most people understand the language. When you come with a language less people understand the song as a whole will need to be better. Of course, being unable to understand the lyrics does make one more able to feel the music without being "distracted" by the lyrics, enabling you to tell more easily which songs are, at least musically speaking, really good and which ones are not.
@@bensentertainmentchannelof6951 It is of course not the fault of English speaking countries that the European voters used to favour them, when every country had to perform with own official language. Nowadays there is not this favouritism, and in the place of it is neighbour voting, which often favours for example Scandinavian countries. And this year Käärijä was a favourite of the audience singing in Finnish. On my opinion the message of the song was poor, but probably most of the people didn't understand anything else but cha, cha, cha. So it was like the person above said: with small language you can sing whatever you want, it is just about performance and melody.
and two countries have NEVER sang in their own language sine the rule change - Azerbaijan and Sweden. Are they so embarrassed by their national tongue?
Still to this day, I love this song. I was so disappointed that Estonia didn’t win that year. It’s such a simple deep-felt song that showcases his vocals and the language beautifully. To me, this is what Eurovision is about.
Too bad they've plagiarized a 20 years old song " Monica Anghel - Spune-mi " Search it , tell me and all the music professionals stating that...that we are wrong !
A word from here in the UK - Estonia should have won with this song. If only the UK could produce songs of this quality instead of the absolute rubbish we send to the Eurovision Song Contest year after year. This truly is a very powerful melodic ballad, sung with a powerful voice, another missed masterpiece. Utterly magnificent!
@@EurovisionESC Yes I see what you mean-Lucie Jones was one of the better songs we have entered in the last 15 years or so - but it is just only one highlight in years and years of embarrassing rubbish.
Dear Estonia and dear estonians, honestly, i'm waiting for the retourn of Ott Lepland and another wonderful "Kuula". I don't speak estonian but i simply know that this song make me cry all the times. La forza sia con voi! Greetings and much love from Italy! ;)
@@Onew92 Estonian sounds similar to french in singing ???? Sorry ? I'm french and don't understand a single word of estonian. No CH, no R in estonian. I would say it's more like italian :-) lol.

It IS a beautiful language. I am sick of people singing in horrible English "I am your ecstasy, you're my fantasy" bullshit, that only people in Eastern Europe understand. They should go back to the hard rule of allowing performers to sing in their native language(s). This is about cultural exchange, not techno vulgar crap. Where else would we hear how beautifully Estonian sounded?
We are living in a multicultural world. Sadly. Less room for originality, more room for...whatever it is.

vana vigur I agree. The world is multicultural. So, there should be many cultures as the term itself implies. I am Azerbaijani. I want to hear and appreciate Estonian music and culture. That’s what multiculturalism means to me, personally. I don’t want everyone to sing in English and emulate bulgar American singers (although, I am myself an American, and English has become my first language.) multiculturalism should not mean rejecting other cultures in favor of the dominant one
The Estonian language is incomprehensible to most Europeans, but it can deliver many emotions without the need to understand it. Kaelakee hääl, Keelatud maa, Rändajad, Kuula, Et uus saaks alguse... all PERFECT songs.
No surprise Estonia got 6th place: - great voice - beautiful song with meaning - handsome singer Plus, Ott sings in his mother tongue. Well done Estonia!
Boggles my mind that Estonia won in 2001 with a mediocre song, but couldn't muster a top 5 with this masterpiece! Literally gives me chills. 2012 was a tough year, but still! Top 3 should've been Sweden, Spain, and Estonia.
@@Ritaaw1 In Estonian: Kuule - hear me, Kuula - listen to me. A slight difference in meaning. But in English 'hear me' sounds shorter and better, especially when to sing it.
Тяжело было тягаться с Лорин! Может, поедь он на конкурс годом ранее или позже, даже смог бы победить. Прекрасная заявка, трогательное исполнение. Спасибо.
When an artist can create an intense emotion to people who doesn't have a clue of what he sings... he reaches his goal ! Congratulation Ott. I follow your carriere from as far as Canada !
This is one of those songs that proves that you don't always need a catchy beat, short skirts, tons of dancers or a bombastic performance. A man and his talent. That is all that's required
So good and in my opinion...(raises shield) so much better than Sweden, it's not that I can't see why a lot of people voted for Sweden but 'Euphoria' is not my taste in music, especially when you compare it to this. His voice caresses my soul. Also those expressive eyebrows damn.
The best estonian entry ever! beautiful song, beautiful lyrics, beautiful language, great voice, perfect execution. Awesome! Btw he deserved the 1st place but in that edition were great songs like Azerbaijan, Albania, Sweeden, Cyprus, Spain.. a lot!
Agree with you 100% this was the best Estonian Ballad so far in eurovisia, 2012 year there was too many good voices and songs that's the only reason why he didn't won :/
I have to admit that i liked only two songs: Euphoria and Standing still. I wasn't interested of the rest, even this one. Now i must say that a lot of songs were super awesome! And Kuula became my absolutely favourite in December 2013...
Margaret Rose Lepland Never too late to appreciate an awesome song. Just too bad too many people didn't listen to this song correctly during the eurovision song contest. Euphoria was given winner 3 weeks before the show. So the "group effect" did play a big role.
this is the eurovision that i wanna watch. i wish all participants sing in their own language. so we can get rid of these simple english pop garbage. this is diversity! best estonian entry! love from turkey ❤️
Pure class, a great example of simple scene acting and high quality ... Tired of all the bullshit with crazy and scratching moves sooo boring such bad trashy songs ... Estonia gave a lesson that year through Ott Lepland, tremendous voice and performance and melody and sung in estonian ... Please keep on singing in your beautiful language ... Greetings from Spain well well done Eesti
There are songs in ESC history, that will always get me, and this is one of them. It is going straight to my heart, it is so powerful yet sensitive, and it stays in my ears and my mind for days. That was just a magic moment, which Ott gave us. Would have been an appropiate winner that year. In this case you can see, that singing in own mother languages makes it much easier to feel and transport emotions. I remember the great old daya, when every country was supposed to do so, maybe for a reason.
Yes you can ! Believe me I listening to this song each and every single day since.... Incredible voice power and such an incredible emotion transmitter !
OMG, this voice, this song.. I just have no words, it's so exciting, so beautiful! Voted for Ott that year! He deserved 1st place, I believe! Estonia, send more such talanted singers, please! Greetings from Russia! :3
Beautiful. One of the most meaningful songs this year; just the song, the beautiful lyric and the perfect, heartfelt performance. This song is one of 2012's biggest strengths.
Estonia has given us some of the finest jewels in ESC history, and this is no exception! It deserved Top 3 at least with Sweden and Serbia. I think my Top 5 of Estonian entries ever includes 1997, 1998, 1999, 2012 and 2016.
I agree! I also loved last year's entry. But this ballad was so emotional, and his voice is magical. And I'm glad that I've found another fan of Play! Jüri's voice is awesome, and so is the song. Oh, and I liked 2009 also!
I love Estonian entries as well and this is one of my favorites along 2002 and 2015 :) P.S. you have a surname which is also in Malta, I thought you were Maltese :P
Still my winner. No offence to Loreen which I also love but Ott's performance and the song are off the scale. Sat firmly in my all time favourite songs list. Estonia should feel very very proud.

Songs sung in native languages are so much more exciting, than some song performed in bad english. Not understanding estonian would certainly not bother me as much (as I don't know any word) as not understanding english, just because the skills used are so BAD, when I personally do speak and understand it without any troubles at all. Those songs really make me mad sometimes. BTW: I think estonian is one of the most beautiful languages I ever listened to. So please, Estonian TV, go back to sending songs to the ESC that are in Estonian.
Best performance of this song, much better than the studio version. You do not need to understand Estonian to get goose bumps from this song. Best Estonian entry ever !
I remember when I was still in the 6th grade of elementary school, when me and my friends were about to say goodbye for the last time because we would go to middle school, this song kept playing in my head and I cried all the time. This song means a lot to me. Only rarely I cried because of a Eurovision song as good as this.
