Overview of our Otter flip over shelter. Modifications, additional items you will need to buy to get fishing, and our honest opinion of the shelter after owning it for a year and a half!
*Great lightweight shelter. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s love how it blocks the light from outside. It was a pain to open the first time but now that it is broke in goes up easy..*
I'm gonna cruise the clearance sales to see if I can get a deal. Thanks for the review, being from Wisconsin, we speak Canadian too. I understood every word!!! LOL
Just picked up the Pro Resort this weekend and after accessories I’m well over $2000 into it. Mind you I’m just getting into ice fishing and this was my first purchase so I’m still researching things. Still don’t even have a rod or anything. 🤣 Still have time before the ice is good. Planning another shopping trip this week.
Yep, no shortage of things to spend money on when it comes to ice fishing. Far cry from where I started as a kid fishing with my sad in the early ‘80s: 5 gallon bucket, sawed-off mop handle with two hooks for line storage, small Len Thompson red and white spoon, and a onesie snowsuit!
@@28fish you're not wrong. I'm approaching the $4k mark now and still not 100% ready for when the ice can support my UTV and all my gear. But I've reached a point where im absolutely itching for this cold weather to make some thick ice! I'll be ready before the end of the year.
I have the same Eskimo, but I same problem Computing and wanted to be more mobile, but I like Eskimos thermal quilted fabric so I went with a grizzly, but still in the market for another flip over.
Do you find the Grizzly is tall enough? I looked at Eskimo as I was impressed with our Quickfish 5i, but seem to recall it was less than 70” in height.
We were lucky enough to get up there twice- in the summer of 2020 and 2021. Outstanding experience. Check out our video, “The Trip” as it highlights the first time we got up there.
i've had three flip overs now, I never use my pop-ups any more. In fact I bought a new pop-up last winter and used it once and remembered why i love flip overs.. Ps wanna buy a new eskimo limited edition with the plaid fabric? lol
I have on early ice before there is enough ice to support my snowmobile. I kept the gear to a minimum to reduce weight and I used a harness from a deer stand to attach myself to it! It was not too bad to pull, but that was on smooth ice with minimal snow. The hyfax runners certainly help. I think it is 180lbs dry. I have also seen people hook these up to their vehicles for a tow.
You can also build a Smitty Sled for it also. Just 2 used down hill ski’s and some lumber ! I built one for my Otter Cottage and it makes a world of difference pulling it on snow !!
It tends to get heavier if you don’t dry it out in a heated area as winter progresses. All the water that absorbs into the material-plus the darn futon weight-really adds up. I try to bring it into my basement a few times a wi get to dry out.
You complain about accessories, well Clam and Cabelas, Eskimo, etc don't include any of the items you were complaining about either! The first several times out I used the pull rope and when I bought my 4 wheeler, then is when I found the hitch, although spendy was a good choice. The new insulated shacks are so much superior to the old canvas but are also heavier. Everything has tradeoffs...
