hey just a tip, what your looking for is pine sap, or a piece of fatwood. burn it while holding your shell over the flame to collect the soot. mix in some water and have fun. much better ink, i believe its what even Otzi would have used. been into primitive tattooing since i was a young teen and have gotten pretty good at it. also try to find some cactus needles and give them a try, if you can get some strong ones and tie a few of them together to a tight grouping you can get decent results.
Soot ink is definitely next on my list, but my curiosity for trying a little of everything and comparing it for people to see is an important part of the process for me as well. Thank you for the information though! I really appreciate it. I’ll definitely have to try both the fatwood and resin. Cactus needles are on my list too! I actually have a cactus that may be a prime candidate, but we’ll see.
@@EccentricArtisan by all means try everything bud, what your doing here is correct too there is no right or wrong way lol carbon is carbon. you will love the soot ink, its known as lampblack. so if your interested in researching it a bit i would search for lampblack. curious where are you located?

This is exactly what ive been looking for. Ive been inspired by otzis tattoos and want my only tattoo done using similar methods, modern needle and ink just isnt interesting to me. Thank you for sharing your experience in such a well produced manner, may just be what i need to try this myself
I agree. The modern process doesn’t have as much appeal for me either. I have a second video up that goes over a few things I didn’t cover in this one and shows another tattoo. I’m working on a third video soon and probably trying bone in place of thorn needles.
Which tree does the needle belong to? The needle of which tree can be used? Do I need to take medicine for this? To heal wounds? How many days does it take to dry? How many days should the body not touch water? How long will this tattoo last on the body?
These needles are Osage Orange thorns. But any thorn that is strong and non toxic will work. Lemon is also good, but many trees have small thorns on their branches. No medicine. Just clean everything with alcohol, and mix the charcoal in the alcohol to make the ink. Then keep the tattoo clean by gently washing each day. I just wash with water. Don’t get dirt or anything else in the tattoo when it is new. It will heal in a couple of weeks if washed and then kept dry throughout the day.
