We had our best and worst market\events of all time in the SAME WEEKEND. I thought I'd share with you guys how much I made from these 2 drastically different events as well as share some of the key differences that I think went into making one so much more successful than the other.
PS. For the most part now that we're winding down in Q4 I should be back to a more normal upload schedule! I'm so sorry it's been all over the place the last month... by all over the place I mean i've hardly posted anything! lol!

I did a market this November where they charge $1 entrance fee and a 2 day show. They don't advertise other than create a FB event a few weeks before the event. They expect people in our community to remember it happens every year. I only did about $740. I started running my own market in December that is for handmade only. I run ads to my FB event for several months. I pass out flyers in my store, posters up around town, and banners too. We charge no entrance fee and myself and my vendors so WAY better. We also have food trucks. I think advertising is KEY.

Ooofff I feeeellll this. Lol!!! We both work full time jobs and then I also work at our church part time (on top of candle business) and it’s A LOT. Especially during this time of year. I just barely sleep for weeks. 🫠🫠🫠🤣🤣🤣

Thus helps me so much to help decide on what events to do because almost all mine were horrible and hardly any foot traffic

Yeah that's always the worst!! I plan on making a video soon about questions you should ask before signing up for an event! Just some things I've learned over the past year that I wish I had known or thought to ask sooner! 😅

Thanks for sharing this info. I just started my business this year (opened Etsy shop in Oct) and have not done any markets/fairs/events yet. I’ve had some sales on Etsy and I’ve got some candles up in a couple local shops for the holidays. I’m on the fence about doing any markets or fairs - I know it would be great opportunity to get real time feedback from customers and I wouldn’t loose any $$ to consignment/commission like I do with the local shops but I also value my time and am considering all the trade offs. So, your examples of the differences between the 2 markets is very helpful. Spending an entire day to “make” $13.00 just sucks. Sorry to hear you had that experience but thank you for sharing it with us all.

I’m so proud of you for starting your business!! 👏👏👏 And yeah it’s definitely a trade off for free time! It wouldn’t be so hard if this was my full time job but yeah with other jobs etc the markets/events are really hard sometimes! Lol! But overall especially if you can get a portion of those customers from each one coming back to shop online and continuing to buy from you etc they can be a great way to build your customer base! 😄
