i hope to get to the point where i could sell candles as a side hustle ...im still working on wick testing...love your videos nick..congrads on taking the big leap..!! really rooting for you
Wick testing is kind of the wooorst. 🙃🤣 lol! But once you get it, everything just clicks!! Lol! Thank you so much! 😄❤️ Believing you’ll get there and be able to do it as a side hustle and maybe eventually even a full time job if that’s what you want! 😄
I am just starting out making candles to sell. This video was very helpful. Thank you for posting it. Also I have tried different types of wax and have settled on the hemp soy coco wax. Was wondering if you have ever used it.
Thank you so much for this video. I was so lost with the Candle Science Calculator. I knew I couldn't charge $33 for a 8 oz candle unless it was a luxury candle and even then that is a stretch. I feel much better pricing my candles after this video.
Wasn’t thrilled with Porter much. They took forever to ship and fo we’re overpriced and all of them were not very strong OOB or CT/HT. I like JoHanna and her personality but found other manufacturers who were less expensive with stronger fragrances.
Ahh I’m sorry to hear that! I haven’t had a ton of time to test out the fragrances I got but out of the bottle a lot of them smelled great. But yeah Cold throw and hot throw really are everything when it comes to fragrance oils! Haha.
The CAC from Makesy does have paraffin in it according to their website. Their CAC is different than the Calwax version… but according to most places that sell the calwax version it also has paraffin in it.
This video is definitely going to help a lot of people!!😊 I know when I started out I had no clue how to price my candles or if I was remotely close to what they were worth, too high or too low , I know a lot of people are going to appreciate this ! 😊
Thank you!!! ❤️ Yeah it is such a challenge trying to know what to do pricing wise! I’m pretty sure mine was off quite a bit e a bit too because I was so afraid “no one would buy a candle that expensive from me.” And now my prices are higher than that and I have no problem selling them to my target market! ❤️
Oh my gosh! 😭😭😭 That is literally like my whole vision for this channel so this literally made my entire day! Thank you so much for your kind words friend! 🥹❤️
I generally add them in through mailchimp because it automatically adds them to both. But I believe you can just go to "customers" in shopify and add them as a "new customer" and then there's a box that you check for them to be subscribed to emails. Either way works! :)
Thank you!! It’s just been suuuch a busy few months! Honestly since February it’s been kind of non stop and I was still posting weekly for a while but my mental health and my sleep was suffering greatly so had to pull back a bit. Lol! Excited for August when I’ll be full time and hopefully won’t have to sacrifice RU-vid!! Lol!
I immediately went and added honey butter to a cart.. shopping around the rest of Midwest's site tonight, I've never ordered from there before! Anything else (any season) I have to try?! ❤
Hope you enjoy it!!! It’s so good! So yes absolutely I looove Honey Spiced Pear from them! It’s a huge seller for me and one of my personal favorites. Other than that I love Strawberry Poundcake! Also Dark Amber + Rosewood has been a good “limited edition” seller for me! OH! And French Toast! I had it for Christmas last year and it is SO GOOD. Smells exactly like french toast and it’s a strong thrower!
@@the1994candleco oh yea, someone mentions icy roads here and people lose their minds, schools get shut down. I do like the rare occasion I get to see it, but idk that I could live with it lol. I’ve had to drive in it more than a Texans fair share 😂
Haha yeah they're definitely more expensive now. 😅 I'm moving away from getting my limited edition jars from them (which is basically all I get from them at the moment.) cause they raised the prices again and they're just not worth the cost even on sale at this point. 😅
The Honey Butter omg that was a favorite of mine & my customers last year as well, it so good, can’t wait to also try the new candle science fall/winter scents I didn’t even expect the release so early. But it was good to see you back on & thank you for another fun video 😊
It is SOOOO GOOD! I'm highly considering carrying it year round just because I selfishly love it! lol!!! Absolutely! Thanks for always being here and always being so supportive! ❤
I am excited to get to make/test my fall scented candles. My FOs are just starting to arrive. I also love Tobacco, I like to blend 50/50 with Mahogany Teakwood; its sooo good! I am "trying" to limit to 5 fall, 5 holiday and 5 winter, but ITS SO HARD!!! I think i need to at least get a tester of Roasted Honey Butter, now. I have a regular honey scent but it hasn't done as well as I thought it would. People go crazy for beeswax candles, so I thought they would enjoy the honey scent, but just not as big of a hit as I thought it would be. That's alright, we don't waste FO around here, my kids make and sell scented slime, so whatever I don't use gets handed down to them for their slime and soaps! Its a win, win!
That is so awesome that they make and sell scented slime!! I love that! ❤️ I know it’s sooo hard to limit the amount of scents! Especially for Fall! 😅🤣 I used to say 4-5 now I’m up to like 9… 😅😅🤣🤣🤣 Roasted Honey Butter is amazing!!! I bet they would love it.
i notice that your website is very clean and easy to navigate. I alsno noticed that you don't sell a ton of different frangrances. You must be really confident in your products.
Haha well I release new scents basically every season and so it definitely starts adding up especially by the time we get to Fall\Christmas but then once the season has passed I stop restocking most of those and clear any that have sold out and that aren't coming back till next year off the site. I also discontinued some scents\collections\products earlier this year that just weren't selling well to make room for new stuff! :) But yes I think it's better to hone in and be intentional with the products\scents you do carry rather than trying to be "everything to everyone" if that makes sense.
Hi Nick! Forgive me for thinking we're friends. We are in my mind. I sent my first set of candles out this weekend. I am so nervous wondering if they will melt or break before the customer receives them. Shipping costs a smooth fortune. I defintely need to look into pirateship.
Haha! We're totally candle friends now! Don't even be sorry! lol! 😄 AND YAYYYY!!! That's so exciting!!!! Congratulations friend!!! I know it's scary but sending all the prayers they make it there in one piece! Your customer will be thrilled and is going to love them! But yes I feel you on the cost! Lol! Pirateship is WAAAAY cheaper than going directly through the post office!! I would definitely look into it! They have been amazing for me! ☺ Congrats again friend!! That is HUGE! ❤
Just haven't got around to taking pics and doing all the extra work that comes with them etc. They were always meant more for wholesale or custom orders anyway though. They're much harder to make in small batches because of their size. Honestly not sure if I'll ever make them available for just regular orders or not. I think I'd maybe do them as a "sample pack" or something along those lines but not sure if I'll make them individually or not. lol!
Ehh I mean so so... They're not something I really focus on or really advertise very much. They're kinda just there for those that don't have one but would prefer wax melts to candles. haha!
Unless you mean the wax melts themselves? Those sell constantly and are very profitable. But the warmers I mean yes we do make a profit but we don't sell a ton of them. They're just kinda there for people who want eed one. Haha
@@JacquelineFalls54 6006 + 4625! Here's a video I made about how I make them, percentages, recipe etc! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pNag_Q1-VSA.htmlsi=_HRBQQMow9xREjfK
Hi Nick! So today I used the Candle Science Pricing spread sheet to calculate the cost of one candle. It included shipping and Marketplace fees. By the time it calcuated everything it is costing me $11 to make an 6 ounce cand and suggested selling it for $33. Any suggestions to keeping cost down?
Oof that's expensive. Without knowing all the materials etc you're using it's hard to give exact pointers, but if you haven't yet I would do a google search and see if there are any nearby candle suppliers you can drive to. Even if there like an hour away that alone could save you tons on shipping. If not then definitely look around at suppliers closest to you and try and get as much as you can from them specifically. Shipping is gonna be the hugest part of the equation really, especially when talking about shipping jars\wax. Next I would try and get as much from 1-2 suppliers as you can rather than from all different places because again shipping, and most places the more you buy in bulk at a time, the more you save. I would really look around at other suppliers and if they have the same jars you use and\or wax that you use, see if you can get a better price overall between shipping and base costs etc. I plan on making a video about all of this soon! haha! Hope that helps in the mean time though.
@@the1994candleco I use IGI6006 Wax which is one of the cheapest wax on the market. I do use wood wicks from Makesy. Those aren't cheap. Most of my Fragrance Oils come from Flaming Candle. They are moderately priced compared to what I have seen elsewhere. I started with the 8 oz tins from Amazon. Again not too expensive. About $1 per tin. I did include $4 for shipping an 8 oz candle which is really 6oz in net weight. That made the price go up. I plugged in $1.50 for a packing box. Then CS added all the percentages for marketplace listing, card processing fees ect. The total cost to produce the candle came out to $11.33 using their formula. I feel so defeated. I refuse to buy FO off Amazon or even worse TEMU! What I know for sure is that if I start off too low it will be difficult to raise my prices later.
Are you including “free shipping” with the candle? Is that why you’re adding on the $4? Boxes I would look into Uline you can get small-large boxes for quite a bit cheaper than $1.50 and personally I don’t add the price of a box to my “cost of goods” because then if the box is $1.50 you’d be charging them $4.5-$6 for the box alone so if you want to add the cost of the box I would divide the cost by 4 at first if you didn’t already (again I’m not sure of your process so it’s hard to know exactly how you’re coming up with those numbers.) Checkout the candle cost calculator on Jeff Standley’s website. That one is easier to navigate in my opinion and makes more sense for actual “cost of goods” www.westsoundcandlesupply.com/pages/cost-calculator
Hey friend! Made a video about pricing that may help you out! Hope it helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2rHviXfUfxg.htmlsi=UPfuBQ1RxLwzhTbO
Loved the “ramble” style 👍. It’s great to have on in the background while I do MY biz stuff - kinda like having a work buddy (which all of us entrepreneurs can use from time to time 😉) in the studio with you. I’m super excited for you that you’re on track to quit your 9-5 later this year. That’s is awesome news. Congrats on that. And congrats on all the new connections that you’re making with your biz.
Glad you liked it!! It's something I enjoy watching\listening to so I'm glad there's others like me! lol!! And thank you so much!! It's been a long time coming!! lol! Excited that I'll have more time to devote to making videos and other resources etc too! 😀❤
That's okay! All of these were still best sellers for me last year so you shouldn't have any issues!! Haha! I'm hoping to do an updated version soon for other scents I added last year too!
