You are correct, my formula is based on crocheting at a 1" gauge. Obviously, not everyone crochets at that gauge. For instance, if you are using a "P" size crochet hook, your gauge will most definitely be smaller. It will need to be adjusted by your OWN personal gauge. We have a video teaching you how to calculate your own personal gauge. I'll add a link! If you are crocheting as an example at a 3/4" gauge, the 12 rows to complete the rug ordinarily at a 1" gauge will require for you - 16 rows! Hello, Sandy! Excellent question! My pattern ("formula") was written with a "Q" hook in mind which when working with fabric strips yields appoximately a 1" gauge. It would absolutely work with a P hook as well. The difference is the guage. A "P" hook will yield approximately a 3/4" gauge. You will follow the exact same pattern, but you will simply need to add additional rows to end up with your rug size - approximately 1 additional row for every 4 rows you've completed. A normal 24x36" rug will require approximately 16 rows vs. 12!
Hello!! So cool that you have reached out from FRANCE!! :) Great question!! Our pattern was written with a 1" gauge & a "Q" sized crochet hook in mind. However, you can use any size hook & still follow along with our pattern. Just keep in mind the number of rounds to complete your desired size of rug will be dependent on the hook you use & your personal stitch gauge. If you have a looser gauge than 1" it may take you FEWER rounds to complete your desired size of rug. Conversely, it you crochet tighter than a 1" gauge it may take you MORE rounds to complete it.
