I can understand your "concern" but I - and I guess most subscribers - would never think that you will ever make such a video for bragging. Simply because we all got to know you as a very modest person and so I for sure can appreciate such a video for the informative value and I would like to see such a video on a regular Basis - let's say once a year or so. So keep up the good work and best wishes from Austria, Michael.

LOOK AT ALL HIS SHIT! In all seriousness, you have a really nice and diverse collection. It is entertaining to see all those arms from different eras and cultures, while you talk about them in a more casual way, hearing about things that would not be included in a traditional, professional review (reviews are still awesome btw). Thank you for the video. Cheers!

Skall, I can confirm what you said about Kali (having done a couple years of training in it). It's a vicious style of close-quarters jungle combat, hence the typical short blade lengths and very short range. Armor wasn't common, either, so armor penetration isn't really necessary. A lot of the sword technique's influences come from stick fighting. (You probably already know most of that but I felt the need to pop in on that.) I always love to watch your videos, thanks for posting!

Hey, just fyi: "espada" and "daga" are just spanish words for sword and dagger. If you say to a spaniard that you have an "espada" he will only understand that you got a sword, not the type of sword. Maybe in Philipines they would understand it as those paired weapons but for other spanish speaking people it sounds weird.

Hey Skall. you should do a video on what weapons would be best in a fantasy world to fight Dragons, Ogres, Chimeras, etc. However I do think people in such a world would develop new weapons to fight such creatures. Any thoughts or ideas on what form/s these new weapons would take?

For such a question, you should first define what you mean by "dragon", "ogre", "chimera".There are many many myths about very very different creatures which share the same name. An arabian dragon has very little to share with pre-christian norse mythology dragons. Actually theese (pre-christian norse mythology dragons) had much more to share with the chinese dragon than they do have with what you'd think about when i say "european dragon". Same problems with Ogres, Dwarfs (which are still being debated, they could even be dark elves if you read the Edda). And about chimeras, well in fantasy the word "chimera" got to identify any monstruous thing which resembles a mix of any animal, while the "original" greek myth chimera was quite well defined as a lion with a secondary goat head and a snake instead of its tail. (cfr age of mythology's chimera)

I've really been enjoying your videos of oddball/older weapons and testing of weapons in general. Gotta wonder though since I've recently been looking for more testing information about Indian Urumis, got any plans to acquire one for testing or collection? Would be very interested to see a more in depth vid of one, most vids available are either short and/or old video of weapon demonstrations. Naturally I've understood that the weapon is hard to handle so good testing might be hard to do without self injury... Doesn't stop my fascination of it though ^^

Ben Schneppensiefen Definitely. The thing he got in return isn't bad either though. It has to be if he traded the Tinker for it heh

That pole-arm dao is a really nice blade, but I think my favorite is that long sword. Beautiful.

Well, I cheated... since it's still out of commission until it's repaired (and I don't have a proper vise to do it), I excluded it.

Yes, the "pole arm" at the start is supposed to be like that such that it can take the stress. But it does seem that the steel is too soft (or too thin) if it bends under normal use. (I mean, it is designed to be used on mounted combat)

Cool reviews. I've been searching online for swords that I like most and you have 2 of them in your collection already, the Kriegsmesser and the Side-Sword (Munich Sword?). And for what its worth, I really like the Raptor Sword (I know it's not historical, but it sure looks good). If you Google the Raptor, do you think it is a fancy Kriegmesser, or would you classify it as something else?

I hope you can make a video about the ginunting in the future as well as a collection of fantasy and modern swords. Anyway, great video

You have a Ginunting! Awesome! It's probably my favorite Filipino blade design. I bought one recently; it handles like a dream. The sword is a traditional weapon of the Ilonggos of Panay Island. I'm half-Ilonggo so I guess that makes it perfect for me haha. It's probably most famous for being the sword of the Philippine Marine Corps Force Recon Battalion, who are trained to use it with Pekiti Tirsia Kali. Force Recon's ginunting design has an s-guard to better protect the hand, and some producers/dealers sell ginunting with that design (I'm hoping to get an s-guard ginunting in the future).

I practiced Kombatan which is also a Filipino martial art and that is correct, the basic stances usually involve resting the swords on your shoulders ( Kombatan mainly revolves around dual wielding. ) or have a sword under the opposite arm after you follow thru. Basically what it does is that it allows for rapid circular motions of both blade for both non stop aggression and parries.

for major blade re-profiling, try using a file jig like the ones people use for knife making, there are plenty of tutorials on youtube. a homemade file jig can help precisely change the blade geometry, is cheap to make and doesn't take up a lot of space

Hey skallagrim! i love your content and im å huge fan of you and your work! I'm thinking of starting my own sword collection and so i would like to hear your opinion of the Kingston arms, 13 century arming sword, wich is based on angus trim' s design. It's made of 9260 high carbon spring Steel. This is on kult of Athena's website. Im thinking of buying this as my first real sword. What are your thought on it and do you have any experience with Kingston arms? Friendly regards from Norway! :)

Dude! Why aren't you in movies? I could so see you in a movie with swords and battles with a mid-evil vibe or a viking movie as well. I would watch the hell out of that movie! Your channel is awesome and you both are my favorite! I love learning about realistic sword fighting vs what people think is possible. Keep up the great work, you both are awesome :)
